$32.40 for the year if anyone is wondering. Not bad if you're stuck on LastPass. I moved to bitwarden myself after the LastPass price hike, free tier is great not really missing any features and no ads or anything. Super easy to transfer the vault too!

    • +4

Likewise with the same move. Very happy with Bitwarden.

I'm another premium LastPass user who moved over to Bitwarden, functionally it's the same with the browser add-ons and autofill in iOS, highly recommended. It was easy to export the passwords from LastPass to a .CSV and import that into Bitwarden.

Thank you - i was about to jump on a lastpass subscription your comment saved me the fee.
        Ozbargain for the win.

    • i'm on lastpass free which seems fine? Only real limitation is sharing passwords with my wife since it's restricted to 1 I think.

      • +4

        Only real limitation

        And it's entirely closed source

      • If password sharing is not needed, then the free tier is fine.

    • +1

Ditto - I bought the Lastpass licence, but the price hikes have put me off renewing.

I run both Bitwarden and Lastpass and I find Bitwarden is more convenient with its fingerprint sign-in for quick password access. Unless LastPass has changed I found I needed to sign-in with the password, and then it would accept fingerprints for quick password fill-in. However, when the session expired it wanted another sign in.

Lastpass does handle credit card details better - you need to enter your password again for your credit card details, even if you are already logged in.

I think I will pay for Bitwarden because I use it a lot and want to help the community keep it going.

    • Do you know if you can pay for bitwarden premium using Google play credit. I've got unused credit that I collected over the year.

  • I am already a Lastpass family user and I have already paid till Mar 2021. Not sure if I can stack up this at till Mar 2020. I have reached out to lastpass support, let's see what they have to say about it.

10 months of 1Password is free for new users - apply promo code THANKS2020.

    • +2

Any features that 1Pass has but LastPass doesn't?

      • +4

It's not owned by LogMeIn which is a notoriously scummy company :P

      • +2

None that I can think off that are essential, but I use it as I find the UI nicer than LastPass and BitWarden on my Apple hardware.

We use LastPass at work and it’s fine though. I’d try both…take up the 10 month trial and try the free version of LastPass and see what you think.

    • +1

Well, can't hurt to try it…

So far it works better on Android than LastPass!

  • +2

    Thanks, will check out Bitwarden

  • +1

FYI this is for new users only. :-(

  • +4

    bitwarden is the best!

  • +1

Bitwarden doesn't allow offline editing of your vault.

    Happy to be wrong!

    • Can you still access your passwords while offline?

      • It's read only when offline.

  • +1

Im just a free last pass user and seems great for the basic features, bitwarden seems the same except open source and if you wanna go pro only $10 (prob usd) per year
might have to make the switch

  • Is this better than Bitwarden?

    • +4

      Lastpass is closed source
      Bitwarden is open source

      • What difference does this make for users?
Asking as I have no idea how this might affect me

        • +1

None really. Some people trust open source more, but most of these services have also been audited.

In the case of BitWarden being open source is nice as people can check the code isn’t doing anything malicious, but at the same time until I believe recently it was one person maintaining the entire product and as a result there was limited resources that needs to be spread pretty wide. When I was looking at the app there was bugs with the Safari support on Mac for instance that wasn’t necessarily super high priority as it’s a small user group. I think they’ve since hired one or two people, but I may be wrong.

For some people open source is important, others might say having a commercial backing where there’s a team of devs and more people available to maintain the product may be more healthy. It’s a matter of perspective.

        • some of these einstein will review the code for leaks with open source and will go yay or nay.
For layman makes no difference so pick either based on your preference

          • +1

@ozdesi: It makes a difference. BitWarden is open source and licenced under the GNU licence. The free software foundation and the free software movement have been instrumental in bringing computing software to where it is today. One of the core beliefs of the free and open source movement is that future programmers will be building on the shoulders of giants, and are able to use and build upon existing quality code that multiple people have worked on and improved. People are free to choice open or closed source, but the impacts are far larger than security.

            Blurb from their site:

The free software movement is one of the most successful social movements to arise from computing culture, driven by a worldwide community of ethical programmers dedicated to the cause of freedom and sharing. But the ultimate success of the free software movement depends upon teaching our friends, neighbors and work colleagues about the danger of not having software freedom, about the danger of a society losing control over its computing.

I'm an IT professional and I struggle to find the NEED to pay for LastPass. The Free version is good enough as just a password manager

  • +1

I've been with Lastpass for years and my renewal is due next month. I think that it is time to move to another service like Bitwarden

  • +1

I have been using the iOS apps of both Lastpass and Bitwarden for over a year each. For me the Lastpass app is more user-friendly but I support Bitwarden because it’s an open source project.

  • +1

I am forced to use LastPass at my day job and honestly, it's terrible. The UI feels so counterintuitive, it's also slow. Bitwarden is a great alternative that is free, but I pay for 1Password at home, the whole family uses it and UX wise, it's pretty hard to beat.

  • I'm a little confused about the pricing.
    It says 40% off. $2.7 is indeed 40% off $4.5 or $32.40/yr + GST
But when you go to check out (for me anyway), it says $3/month (i.e. $36/yr) and then they're charging $3.60 GST on top of that…Am I going crazy?

    • +1

I logged in to check. On the page this article links to I’m seeing AUD pricing, but the checkout has USD pricing. The pricing you showed above is indeed at the checkout at $3USD a month, but then under it I’m seeing a $14.40USD discount for the year which makes the total for the year $21.60 USD. That’s because the page loaded with the US as my location by default.

That total based on Google translates to $29.34AUD which is close to the pricing you saw on the first page.

Make sure they have the discount applied at the checkout, otherwise maybe click through again.

If I then put in an Australian address the pricing for me changed to AUD and was listed as $32.40
