Black Friday Deal - Mobile Phone for GPS Use - Cheap Large Size

Hi All,

I am looking for either an Android or Apple phone with which I can run my Tomtom Go maps while driving. I do not use Google Maps but use Tomtom Maps to drive as I am really challenged with direction sense and Tomtom maps on my iPhone works very well. Google maps lacks the speed zone, lane guidance and speed warnings including camera etc.

I am using my old iphone 6 and it's battery is almost as bad as anything and wouldn't last more than 20 mins in GPS usage. I have my iphone 11 Pro for taking calls.

Since black Friday is coming up I would like to invest in a good phone under $100 for the use of GPS which will seamlessly work in my car. I do not care about camera just need good battery life. Large screen size and it doesn't get baked under the sun. Android or Apple recommendations please include the weblink?

Must have's
I can run Tomtom GPS maps
$100 range or less
Good battery life at least 6 hrs screentime
Supports tethering with my iphone 11 Pro
LTE/4G a must
Single or Dual SIM doesn't matter

This is part of Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals for 2020

I don't think any phone, let alone one for $100, will give you six hours of on screen time while using it as a navigation device … You're going to have to compromise something somewhere

  • why not a used ipad/mini/tab? i assume u just want a bigger screen for gps

Google maps lacks the speed zone, lane guidance and speed warnings including camera etc

    Google maps does these things?

Why do you need such long battery life, why not have it plugged in while driving? Why not just use the iPhone 11? So many questions.

Shut up, no, what? Tom Tom make a GPS unit? Next you will tell me I just stick it to the windscreen or something. You’re not just about to tell me that this dedicated device only costs around the price that OP has in their budget! Shut the gate, no way!

      Also, use Waze.

That’s right! This phone looking contraption is dedicated to maps only featuring state of art technology they call ‘global positioning system’, but wait there’s more! Not only does it tell you where you are but it will even tell you the time! Still not impressed? We’re throwing in Australia’s maps for FREE! Normally $179 for those living in Europe. I think you can bring your iphone to apple store, they will replace your battery for $79.

    apple web link

  • Actually TomTom navigator is now not as good used to be. They crash, stop working within 15 months of usage, i got them replaced twice within warranty time. actually they refused as the product is out of warranty i need to buy new one. but when i mentioned i spend $ 400 for new system i should be able to use for good period of time and not within warranty, they reluctantly replaced another piece ( refurbished).

Also TT has stop updating their maps even though i had my new map updates but still M8 East is considered toll free road ( for Sydney NSW ) which is itself a basic flaw in updates.

Actually i am thinking of replacing my navigation system for some decent good navigation ready to spend around $ 250 as my wife dont like to keep her phone on dashboard and she wants navigator to guide her. any suggestion is welcome

Apple Car Play or Android Auto compatible stereo system for the car and use Waze.

  • Thank you guys. The suggestion of replacing my iPhone 6 battery for $79 sounds a good option.
I apologise I don’t need on screen 6 hrs of navigation but the problem with my iPhone is let’s say I charge the device to 100% I leave it turned off and after 2 weeks when I turn it on the phone displays I got only 15% charge.
I’m happy to drive with charger plugged in.

Yes google maps do not have speed zone warnings, lane guidance. Waze is also an option I didn’t try.

Why I wanted 4G plus tethering function cause I got a 1 year catch connect sim in my iPhone 6 which I leave it in the car once the data expires in the sim I plan to tether my iPhone 11 Pro with this device for map updates, traffic alerts etc!

I cannot use my iPhone 11 Pro for GPS as the summer heat almost bakes the phone hot. I used it few times and will not use it.

I have a GPS phone mount always stuck in the windshield. I’m fine with it

Just made appointment with Apple to replace my battery for iPhone 6 $79 hoping it works

  • Use a cable when using it as a GPS.

You have two iphones but want to pay less than 100 for this one?

    • yeah well like rich people buying expensive cars but have no left overs for insurance

So the car is on display in the garage :)

    • As I mentioned before I use my old iPhone 6 for TomTom map navigation… that’s all. I leave it in the car and I use my other newer iPhone for calls etc. old iPhone of baked under the Australian summer heat will hurt less than my iPhone which has my lifeline, no ?

Using cable always is a good idea but it’s a pain to setup for short distances. Example I leave my iPhone 6 full changed up and turned off. I turn it on after 3 hours it’s showing 39% battery.

$79 is a good deal to fix the iPhone 6 no ?

  • Buy yourself a cheap mobile like Optus X Power with a 4000mAh battery for $50 and leave your primary phone for calls
