Property near Transmission Line Easement Near Highway

I am planning to buy a property near the high way. There is an transmission line easement which runs through neighboring properties for powerlines (not mine). There is no visible tower station nearby.

I heard the combination of dust particles (from highway) and transmission line would potentially cause cancer. Is it the concern if they are buried in the ground?

Does transmission line easement (as below) imply a high voltage powerline? I am inquiring Ausgrid/townplanner about this transmission easement without success.

TRANMISSION LINE EASEMENT 9.145 WIDE
TRANMISSION LINE EASEMENT 30.48 WIDE

I heard using the internet and modems and phones can cause cancer too but I still use them. :)

Had a mate years ago who worked for the local electricity mob as a tech. where they had those big towers they ran cows under them to see what birth defects the radiation caused also we used to have fun wowing the crowds by walking under them at night and holding up a flouro tube that would light up. Were there birth defects in the cattle?

as for underground cables walk over them with a diagnostic meter you'll see if its escaping or not

Lots of people live on main roads, are the people on those properties are getting same diseases? I don't know…

High power lines, as not many people live near one… not sure if there are supporting evidence? However if you worry about it constantly, then I reckon it's not a good idea, as you may get ill from constant worrying (e.g. mental stress that type of thing).

Yes. Living near busy roads is definitely bad for your health.

No, I have looked into this before and never found anything reputable that found a causal link from power lines to health effects.
There were some studies that showed a correlation, as houses under transmission lines tend to be cheaper, and therefore affordable by less-rich people. The cause of the health effect here is being poor, it's bad for your health in numerous ways.

Yeah my advice is if you think it'll be a problem, mentally you'll always think it'll be a problem.

I'd look elsewhere. It's probably a good value block/house for this exact reason.

  • I wouldn't, but DYOR and go with your gut feeling.

    • DYOR: try to find out further information for yourself, but don’t rely on page one of the first google search you do. Look for reputable scientific references.

  • Karens won't buy property in future without a discount. Ask for a discount.

You won't get cancer, but the property will look like an used Oppo phone.

  • Eating enough bananas can cause cancer.

It’s easy to solve, just make an offer for the property, minus the $14.99 you need to buy a tin foil hat…

I would be more worried about the noise of the highway than the “dust particles”. Just make sure those power lines are not there to power any 5G phone towers…

    • Really?

How many bananas would one have to eat to catch cancer?

        From the ever-reliable internet:

you will certainly die from radiation poisoning if you are able to eat 10,000,000 bananas at once. You may also witness chronic symptoms if you eat 274 bananas a day for seven years.

        • Phew, dodged a bullet there, Thanks man!

        • You may also witness chronic symptoms if you eat 274 bananas a day for seven years.

          Does banana cake count?

@jv: Of course. If you eat only the best recipes, and full size banana cake, we could assume three bananas per cake. Based on the figures above, I think as long as you keep to fewer than 90 full size cakes a day for the next seven years, you should be fine.

If you're just talking banana muffins, I'm not sure they actually contain any real banana.

That means I can only have at most, one every 16 minutes…. 😔

@jv: Sometimes, you just need to do the right thing.

Sounds like you’ll need to re-clad the walls with RFID blocking wallets

    • :)

Actually you can get EMF shielding paint nowadays (not cheap) or have EMF cladding installed before they put the gyprock on the walls. I would go that way if I were building a house these days.

      • What happens when the kids start complaining that their phones aren't working?

        • Tell 'em to harden up.

        • You tell them to put on their home made RFID blocking wallet raincoats and go outside for 5 minutes MAX

          Boost the signal!

    • Then complain about the poor mobile phone reception.

If it concerns you, then don't buy it…
    Anxiety probably causes cancer too…

  • We are in the property business and i can tell you there will be issues when you are trying to sell the property somewhere down the track. You save money now and get less in future when you sell. Doesn't make much of a difference. Better off getting somewhere more desirable even if the house is a bit worse off.

Definitely not good for your health if you have to think about the power lines and highway.

  • If your gut says no …. other people will feel the same which will decrease potential buyers when you want to sell. Buy cheap, sell cheap in this case.
