It's a deal but I'd hold off - got it for $159 a couple of years ago. (Great grinder though at either price.)

They have change of mind returns if something better comes up

      • Good to know, thanks!

      • Who they? TGG or eBay?

        • TGG

          • @Pricebeat: They sell it through eBay. I thought it should be under eBay's ToC?

    • same model or different model?
before or after the RRP increase?

I got the same model for $159 in 2018

Same model, not sure when the RRP increased but I bought it in May 2018.

If you have a look at Ozbargain price history there hasn't been a deal posted at that price since December 2019.

I'm thinking it'll be quite a while before we see that price again. Only worth holding off if you really, really want to save the extra $30 or have something else to use in the meantime.

FWIW, I had been using a Mazzer Mini (manual machine) for 4 years and wanted something more automatic to go with my ECM Technika Profi machine but didn't want to spend ~$1k on a grinder. Bought this machine when it was $159 and must say I have been impressed and do not miss the Mazzer at all. On a blind taste test, I think most people wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a Mazzer and this machine if you dial it in correctly.

  • Ive had this for almost 6 years and still no issues. Really reliable.

  • Does this do a proper espresso grind? We have a Giotto machine, and anything ground too course is pointless. We normally have the coffee supplier grind it for us at number 3, which is quite powdery and means the coffee doesn't just pour straight through (as it does with the stuff you buy ground in supermarkets for example).

How does this stack up vs a "proper" grinder costing $800 for example?

    • This is still a "proper" grinder in my opinion. It'll definitely go fine enough. It'll choke an EM7100 machine no problem, on setting 7 or 8 if you are tamping properly, and then you can open it up and easily adjust the burrs to grind even much finer that, but I have never really needed to. It's a fantastic appliance for the money. Looks nice too.

  • hi there
which of these options are better
    - breville barista express machine and grinder
    or
    - smart grinder pro paired with Aldis delonghi $99 machine?

    • I wouldn't go the second option, it's not in the same league at all. The internals of the coffee machine matters, no matter how good your grinder is

      • thanks mate. I thought it'd save a good $250 with this combination, the Aldi delonghi is still in the box, maybe going to get a change of mind refund.
        cheers.

I paired a smart grinder pro with a cheap bambino earlier this year, good starter kit to get the hang of everything and has alot better adjustments in the grinder
