[Backorder] Philips Hue Downlight Kit $39 (Back Ordered) Usually $65 @ The Good Guys

70

Price hipster just showed this.
This is the lowest these go afaik

600lm so not exceptionally bright. I’m guessing dimension wise this is same as Garnea so should fit the same cutout as Lifx’s 120mm

Just an FYI - these are back ordered. I’m guessing orders will be fulfilled at a future date.

FYI this is the version that requires an electrician to install it. Not the new version which is plug and play.

… for certain senses of "requires".

  • It doesn't say, but these look the ones that need a 12.5cm cutout instead of the more common cutout size in Australia of 90mm.

    • Yes its the Philips Hue Aphelion, the cutout is 12.5 i have had a dozen or so in the kitchen and hall for about 2 years running on motion sensors and schedules and they have been faultless. I love the larger size but it may not suit everyone.

      • did you end up with less number of lights overall with these larger sized ones?

        • +1

The same number, because i had basic non-smart GU10 globes and fittings which i replaced with the Philips Hue Aphelion downlights. So the hall lights only get run at 75%, and at night they run on 20% as a motion sensor night lighting for friends who stay over.

          • @LowRange: How do you go about setting that up? Sounds like some cool stuff

            • @itshammer: just get a hue motion sensor and have it linked to the lights you want. then set up a schedule for what time to have at 75% and time at 25%. all in the hue app on phone.

  • What do you actually get in the kit?

    • Nothing just the light and if i recall a paper cutout template.

      • Thanks, i didn't know if it was multiple lights or not.

  • Quite surprised to see this pop up, even as backorder. I was pretty certain they discontinued this model, with stores like bunnings not listing it on their sites anymore. I use these in our bedroom and they are plenty bright, can change the warmth and brightness of the light and have been quite happy with them.

    • how many in bedroom? is one in centre enough for 3x3?

      • +1

One is probably enough, but I have 2

I highly doubt these will get fulfilled, they were discontinued early this year. Reasonable price if there's stock, I fitted out most of my house with these from black friday sale last year @ $30 each.

  • I have three of these lights. One of them died within the year, as it was purchased on Amazon, I tried to contact Philips for support.

They were not helpful and basically ignored the Australian Consumer Law by saying the light has been discontinued.

I also have 16 of the newer 90mm version, they've all been working well.

    • This is my concern. I bought a house last Oct and on Black Friday last year I changed all the lights to this model. I had to expand the holes to 125mm.
Not sure what to do if one of the lights goes now, they are discontinued and the new lights are 90mm.

Very silly oversight from Philips. It would suck having to patch the currents holes (33 of them) and/or have different size lights around the house.

      • I'd imagine there is a convertor plate online. 🤞

      • I'd say don't risk it. You can cut bigger if you need to, but harder for the other way around.

There are also Philips Hue Hub compatible downlights on Amazon and other places, and they are RGB too. Just look into that.

  • Normal downlights are 90mm same as the newer Phillip is this correct?

While this one is the old 125mm?
