JB Hi-Fi Stock Unavailable 8 Days after Purchasing

I purchased a printer from JB Hi-Fi, received confirmation same day stating printer would arrive in 4 days. Four days passed and no printer. So I was patient thinking slow mail due to COVID. Four more days passed and that afternoon I received and Email from them saying the following:

"Thank you for choosing to order HP - SMART TANK 457 AIO PRINTER through JB Hi-Fi Online.

We regret to inform you that the suppliers have contacted us regarding this item and unfortunately, they have advised that it is no longer available. As a result, we have been forced to cancel this item from your online order and our product team will be deleting this item from our database."

Now my question is this, why did they wait till 4 days after it was due to arrive at my home to tell me they did not have stock???
Makes me so angry!!

With COVID and border closures requiring passes this printer as an absolute necessity. And I am a dual citizen of the usa and AU, so the American elections are important to me, with a runoff ballot (for congress) due on Jan 5th; now I may not get to vote since my printer did not arrive. (my initial vote for the original presidential election took 28 days to arrive at the necessary counting location).

I have since ordered one from The Good Guys, lets see if they can honour my order and do it timely. I have about 8 days to cast my ballot via the post, hoping it will arrive within the same timeframe as previously!

and yes I could go pick one up from the shops but the printers which suite my needs are not in-stock in the stores atm.

And I should not have to buy "any" printer for a one time quick use.

You don't, that's why Officeworks offers printing/scanning services etc

There is no Officeworks nearby, need a pass to get to one, laughing out loud! :-)

Go to your local library. Most have computers and printing services.

          Many news agencies too.

I don't know if I've ever seen someone feel the need to write out the words that "lol" abbreviate… πŸ˜‚

        • I did something on my Apple years ago identifying (lol)laughing out loud! :-) which when I hit space after typing those 3 letters it automatically spells it out for me. Have no idea πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ what I did now, hehe 😜 to avoid spelling out.

JB Hifi owns the Good Guys brand. They probably have the same suppliers for that printer.

    • f..kn oops!!! Oh well I hope I picked a more available printer

  • It's amazing that the most powerful nation in the world can't get their act together and adopt 21st-century tech. Estonian citizens have been voting online since 2005 while Sierra Leone held their first blockchain based election.

Btw. Officeworks have a wide range of printers and is open from early to late.

    • I am sure they do but they are not near me and to go out of my way to drive would be a waste when I can check online and call ahead but still they are too far from me. And I need a pass to get to the nearest one!

      • Officeworks also deliver.

Maybe because they were busy trying to solve the problem. They were probably checking to see if other stores have stock or if the distributor was getting more stock etc.

No online retailer is perfect - and neither are courier companies. If something is mission-critical, buy it in person.

In an ideal world, they would have contacted you quicker. If you look at news reports or ASX announcements, you will see that JB Hifi are extra busy with sales due to COVID.

    Christ on a bike.

If you need something for a "mission critical" purpose, don't order online and "hope" it will arrive on the suggested date.

Yes, yes, most of time the advertised times are correct, just like most of the time the EFTPOS machines, etc. are working and there's no need to carry cash … right up until they fail just as you want to do something. Then it's the "evil" banks' fault despite the population having … oh, about five years since the last failure to get organised enough to carry a small amount of cash with them for such circumstances.

Mission critical applications mean you … yes you … might have to go to a little extra effort to ensure that you get the outcome you want.

    • yes you … might have to go to a little extra effort to ensure that you get the outcome you want.

How much more effort could I do? I researched all my local shops online to find the printer's that will work for me then determined that store stock does not have what I need and so I ordered from their warehouse… There is nothing more I could do! In my opinion, they should have contacted me at least 4 days ago!

      • How much more effort could I do?

Go to a shop that has your preferred model in stock.

Go to a shop that has a "close enough" model in stock.

Arrange for the critical items to be printed at Officeworks/another print house/a public library/by a friend, etc. while you wait for your preferred item to be delivered from your online order.

There's three options that immediately spring to mind.

Let's be honest here, while shipping delays and cancellations are always a pain up the jacksie, they're hardly newsworthy events. You need to factor that in when making decisions regarding the criticality/urgency of what you're doing.

  • Printer factories are still recovering from the COVID shutdown so there is still a global shortage of printers.

    • I do get that and realized when I was searching, there was a shortage, but in this instance they indicated it was available in their warehouse… and took them way too long to realize that was not the truth!

      • Yep it makes you realise that many products in stock are in stock with suppliers.

Good thing it’s 2020 and printers are easily accessible in a multitude of places if needed.
