Hi Liam - are these twice as good as other beer at $45 per case?

    • +4

      Hey Karen,

I would say yes but it's hard to answer that as obviously that depends on what the other beer is and each persons personal taste. Not to mention I'm clearly bias. ;D

However I can say, most beers in the $45 range would not be IPAs, which are usually higher ABV and more expensive to produce. Also most beers at that price are usually not brewed by Independent Australian breweries.

      Cheers,

Liam from Bad Shepherd Brewing Co.

        You can get a sessionable indie beerfor $55 + $10 delivery - and with a $10 voucher you'll get 2 delivered for $100…

        • +1

Hey mate, that's a good deal! However it is also a different style of beer with a lower ABV. Hawkers are also one of the biggest indie brewers in the country but even their IPA is $75.00 for a 16 pack (compared to our 24 pack at $90), so similar priced to this special.

We sometimes are able to have our Pales, Lagers or Pils at similar specials, depending on the volume we have available and other factors. Cheers, Liam

The $35 shipping to Sydney kills it for me.

    • +4

Yeah sorry mate, totally understand that. Unfortunately that is the straight up out of pocket cost for us currently. We haven't had much luck finding a cheaper shipping solution at this stage.

All I can recommend is look for us locally and if you enjoy our beers, then maybe do a bulk order to make the cost more reasonable.

      Cheers,

      Liam

You couldn't have tried that hard. I'm a casual seller on ebay and I can ship a 10kg box from Sydney to Melbourne for ~15. Next day delivery most times too (although not guaranteed).

But yeah, your business probably has a whole bunch of other issues if your beer costs $90/case, on sale.

Thanks for sharing your expansive expertise…

          Have a great day!

Seems like you probably only drink whats on the shelf at Dans. Maybe go have a little google search of smaller craft brewers and see what they charge? If you think $90 is expensive for a 24 slab, you are going to be quite shocked with what you find.

Also auspost site estimates $54 for express and $25 for normal delivery for a slab from Melbourne CBD to Sydney CBD. So…..

..Or it says they make good beer if people are willing to pay that price for it..

Actually, I can take my pick of craft beers from mirco breweries in Sydney for around $70.

Perhaps you should apply for a job with the logistics department of BadShepherdBrewingCo. I'm sure you'll get them an awesome deal on shipping.

There's plenty of cheaper options around - sendle, couriersplease, fastway/aramex to name a few. Going by the amount of wine/beer I get delivered via Australia post, I suspect any moderate sized business could probably get a better deal from Australia Post.

Or it says they make good beer if people are willing to pay that price for it

            To be seen.

            • @salmon123: Hey mate, we actually use Sendle, so clearly there are costs you're not aware of. For example if your area shipping is $35, that would be because Sendle considers your area "remote", which increases the cost to ship there. Ultimately we're also not happy with the cost of national shipping and we'll continue to look for a better solution. Cheers, Liam

Jeez Louise that's a good price for the Almighty. What's the canning date on it, roughly speaking?

    • +2

It's technically still got about 6 months or so but we're recommending you drink it within the next few weeks. As this style of heavily hoppy beer doesn't have as long of a shelf life and summer can affect that.

      Cheers,

      Liam

      • +1

I thought a heavily hoppy beer were actually the opposite. Longer shelf life.

        • +2

          Yes and no.

Safe to drink, maintain bitterness, sure.

But will lose the more volatile flavour and aroma compounds as they break down quicker.

        • +2

see my response on their last deal when someone said the same

"When it was purely a bittering hop this was part of its purpose.

Long gone are the days when highly hopped beers are all bittering early hops.
The late stage and post boil hop additions are all more volatile and a loss in aroma and flavour over time due to dissolved oxygen and have a shorter shelf life if you want to ensure the aroma and flavour has not diminished"

        • Hey mate, SBOB and Melthar are spot on with their explanation. Hops was previously mainly used as a bitter agent but now with these styles of beers its used to create specific flavours and aromas which don't last as long and we want to make sure people enjoy our beers when they're at their best. Cheers, Liam

For anyone not sure whether or not it's worth it; I bought the 4pack of the Pacific IPA a couple weeks back and can attest to the quality; it's a good balance - not overly fruity (like their Hazy IPA) - but has a lot of flavour. You could easily smash a 4pack in an arvo.

If I hadn't just stocked up at my local (Hawkers), I'd probably be going for the slab of Poseidon (it's a much stronger, more bitter flavour, which really makes you take your time) as it's a bloody bargain atm.

These guys were doing free delivery over $20 or something during the lockdown, which was a really good incentive to try a bunch of different beers - it's the only thing i'll miss about the lockdown!

Awesome to hear mate, appreciate you saying so.

      Cheers,

      Liam

  • +2

worth noting its a 24 pack, whilst a lot of craft beers come in 16s, so value is a bit better than first meets the eye

    Damn. 3196

    • Hey mate, your area is still within our Metro-Melb area and we're including free delivery to that area with these Pacific cases. Cheers, Liam
