[Computer Accessory] Large Mousepad’s - Owners Opinions Needed

Just looking at simple black large blank mousepad (what is RGB) for basic use.

A few 80cm x 30cm options Fulfilled by Amazon AU from $13 - $16.
Anyone have any experience with these cheap large mousepads ?
(One negative review mentioned in the photos it is rolled, but the mousepad came all folded and crumpled in the packaging so it had permanent bends and was all bumpy)

Or would it be better to spend $20-$25 on a computer brand-name one (just by looking at the photos the quality seems to be much better & claims of long lasting mouse use distances).

Would appreciate experience from anyone who has tried some or a bunch of them thanks.

  • I tried a $17 eBay one with stitched edges, it was a razor brand knock off. I recently got a Corsair one from a deal posted here for around $20 on Amazon, both were pretty nice. I wouldn't buy one without stitched edges, and the Corsair one is slightly better quality and came in a box and was flat almost instantly but had a weird smell for a day or two. The cheap eBay one had no retail packaging and still had crumples that didn't effect performance and were barely noticeable but didn't go away. If I bought another I'd get 90cm X 40cm. 30cm is just enough space though.

    • Ok thanks for the information . Much appreciated.

    • I agree with FizzBalls, many years ago i got a fake razor one. [700x300x3mm] for $13.33 AUD from ebay.

From memory it had a strong smell at the start, so i just popped it in the shower and then let it drip dry.

      Stiched edges

In hindsight i'd buy it a bit longer. maybe 1m wide.

it looked like this , (Razor #3) but had stitched edges like this

  • I have 2 mm300 from corsair, it's worth the coin imo.

    • Ok thanks. Pretty pricey just for basic use..

Edit: found this previous deal MM300 for $29 that’s a better price (I was seeing $50).

  • I have been using an Artisan Hayate for quite a few years with no complaints! Doesn't look too flashy (or flashy at all) but just works.

    • Looks good.
      Could be wider though.
Kind of makes you wish you could walk into a computer store in Japan and look for mousepads.

I own and can recommend this highly - good price too at JB Hifi

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/steelseries-qck-mouse-pad…

    • $19 for 32cm x 27cm seems expensive…

      • Not to me! I am happy to pay for quality and it is more than big enough for me (although I don’t play games).

        • Ok thanks. I appreciate quality options from local stores.
Sorry I edited my post later, I was looking at 80cm x 30cm options.

  • I have the extra-large HyperX one, and can recommend it. Great quality too. Drawback is the price (around 50ish)

Pay for a brand quality big one if you play FPS. Consistent glide is important. They are almost as cheap as no name ones on sale.

E.g Logitech g640 for 20 or razer gigantus for 30

    • This. I have an AsusvROG one and its niceeeeee. I bought one of the Razor ones with RGB on the edges and it wasnt comfortable to rest on.

I've never found a mousepad that I liked.

I found getting a gaming mat (you see them in collector card stores) is a really good solution. They're not cheap but they're large. Expect a $25 to $40 price range. YMMV.

Omg thanks for reminding me I already have a playmat - don't play MTG anymore so this is a good second life for it :)

  • I have this one https://www.amazon.com.au/VicTsing-Extended-31-5%C3%9715-75%… and I love it. Doesn't seem to be in stock anymore though :( Was around 20$

  • Saw someone recommending this in one of the mouse pad deals, seems pretty solid.

Currently using a non-stitched SteelSeries QcK, would probably switch to that when I decide to.

    • That one you linked looks great.
$19 from the local store & is 80x30 cm, 3mm thick with side-stitching.
      Reviews are good too.

      Thanks for sharing.

im a big fan of the glorious pc master race ones.

Mouse works on my table surface - no size restriction :), therefore don't need one.

    • Hi yes I have been using optical mouse on a black colour A4 paper.
Thought a large mousepad would improve comfort for the mouse and keyboard as well (give soft space to rest).

  • I got this one from Amazon for $12.80 with $3 Shopback bonus. I think it's quite good for the price. The surface is even and the edge stitching consistent.
edit: 2 folds in the package which did not leave permanent creasing. 80x30cm.

  • Hi everyone thanks for your comments, here is an update.
I went with the HP Omen 300 for $25 + 4% Cashback @ Amazon AU.
(Yes Black Friday is around the corner but there was only 3 left)

The HP Omen @ 90x40cm is slightly larger than the 80x30cm $19 Playmax Surface X2 @ JB HiFi that mizx shared in a comment above.
So for around $4-$5 more I thought the HP was worth it.
Hopefully it is a nicer material and higher quality as well.

    • Hey, looking to get the exact same HP Omen 300 Mousepad. What are your thoughts on it? Worth it?

It’s does it’s job. It’s a mousepad (a huge one) it does what a mousepad does I guess.
One thing it’s missing that someone else recommended in a comment, is a stitched / braided edge.

There are cheaper options Fulfilled by Amazon for $15-20 with braided edge but they are slightly smaller @ 80x30cm & I read reviews saying they came crumpled / folded in packaging.
Another option is the one from JB HiFi in a comment above (it looks like it comes rolled from the photo).

        • Thanks for the insight :) Have you noticed any surface peeling with the mousepad?

          • +1

@18: It is good quality. But I am just a basic computer user (occasionally turn pc on: internet browsing / typing / sorting music files).

If you are a gamer or a more hardcore computer user maybe braided edge will be a benefit and help the mouse pad last longer.
(I think the one from JB HiFi is braided edge have a look)

@18: Hi again, I just thought to tell you I just found this Cozy “PU leather” double-sided mouse pad with many different colours ($22.98).

Same size as the HP omen 300 (90 x 40cm).
I actually thought Omen 300 was “PU leather” from looking at photo, but it was just regular mousepad material.

If I buy again I would probably buy the PU leather one (more premium feel, also water spill resistant / easier to clean).

Reviews of Cozy PU leather pad are good, says comes rolled in packaging like Omen 300 (rolled is better than folded), also review says brand-new it can be a bit curvy, but if you roll it opposite way and leave it for few days it will fix.

          • @18: If you want durable (high usage / gaming etc) I would probably get the $19 JB HiFi one with side stitching (80 x 30cm). (Look at 2nd photo of box looks like it is rolled in packaging)
There is some black side stitched ones on Amazon for ~$15 but reviews say they come folded in packaging.

If you are more casual user & after more premium feel I would go with Cozy PU leather double sided one ($22.98 / 90 x 40cm).

          • @18: Hi wondering did you decide which mousepad yet.

            • @thebadmachine: I just went with the hp omen mousepad since I also have a hp omen 30l pc so it compliments one another. Also it's pretty good for $25 but does get dirty pretty quickly.

              • +1

@18: Good choice. Saw some youtube on the JB one it gets dirty quick too. HP Omen stays pretty clean in my experience. But since it is “mousepad” material, noticed it feel like it will get collect skin / sweat from just arms resting on it for few years, so ordered a small Cozy PU leather one just to rest arms when typing.

The Cozy one is… cheap. It is just 2 PU-leather sheets stuck together so it is less than 2mm thin (harder than Omen), and double-sided it has zero grip on surface, it has a bit of grip on Omen mousepad so will keep it, but on desk it will slide around and be terrible. Just to let you know the reviews for Cozy are good, but it will be dissapointing as mousepad.

Everything else is expensive by comparison. (Original deal had free shipping.)

    • I did look up the HP Omen 300 pad on Ozbargain before committing.
      Was $29 here.

So $25 with cashback seemed like a decent deal, they are all sold out now..

  • Found this Christmas themed large mousepad for $20

Maybe ideal as a Xmas gift or something. I paid the same amount for a blank black one, so $20 for a printed one seems like a good deal.

  • I got mine from here and it is pretty good. https://www.switchkeys.com.au/collections/deskmats

Alternatively I am also using HyperX mouse pad and the tracking has been great. The feel of the material is a bit odd though. Like fabric 'poking' your skin but the tracking and gliding seem good.

  • I purchased a desk mat from aliexpress

and seems to be holding up well ive had it for roughly 2 years and seems still intact.

You can get a lot more custom images or designs this way keep in mind that, some mouse may struggle with tracking over brighter coloured mats.
