Not sure how it compares to vinegar but this product worked great for me. Brown spots all gone. Just keep in mind with amazon delivery it will likely come with the cap leaking. Got mine refunded for this reason so ended up with a free bottle (minus the 5% that leaked out).
They've been shipping all liquids with a plastic bag now.
Vinegar gives good results too, but I couldn't clean all the brown spots in one go as my kettle never had a clean before. You should try next time.
100% cleans my kettle but it gets dirty after a week or so. The build up at the bottom always comes back.
I use filtered water and that helps a lot with reducing build-up. I only need to clean my kettle like once every 6 months
Soften your water
use lemons instead , fill with water
just use a teaspoon of citric acid & boil it a couple of times https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/344
Yep. I use a slice of lemon, boil, and quick scrub. Comes up sparkling. Is there a better OzB way?
Yes…..with no scrubbing :)
Use half a lemon, squeeze it in the empty kettle, then put the lemon in the kettle too after you’ve squeezed it.
Fill kettle up, boil, let sit for 1-2 hours.
Super clean!!! No scrubbing.
Empty kettle, rinse, rinse again, fill kettle, boil, discard water and you’re done.
1 lemon at my local Coles today= $2.50!!! FML
Vinegar is much cheaper 👍
@GregFiona: So true!
I have a lemon tree, so that’s my free source.
If no lemons then I’ll use vinegar! :)
I’ll use about a cup of vinegar as a substitute for the lemon. Then follow the rest of my directions.
I’ve found vinegar takes longer. Overnight is gold, but 2-3 hours should do it
Thx
I just use a few slices/half of lemon, fill the kettle with water and boil a few times. Works great.
Citric acid works well for me too
Comparative cost per descale assuming you use the recommended amounts for approx. 1L total solution:
Breville BKC250 at this price: about $1.20.
Citric acid from the supermarket at $2.25 for 75g: about $0.75.
White vinegar from the supermarket at $1.20 for 2L: about $0.20.
That's based on directions from BKC250 bottle, Mckenzie's citric acid container, and the manual for my old Breville stainless steel kettle which included instructions for descaling with vinegar.
The directions for vinegar do say it's meant to be left overnight (vs 15-30 min for the others), so it's the least convenient and perhaps risky to your drowsy, forgetful self or other unsuspecting kettle user.
(reposted from previous deal)
1 teaspoon of citric acid & water is all you need… you get about 15 cleans for your $2.25 also only takes 5mins.
Lemon from backyard: free :)
If you have a lemon tree these days you are rich! Sell them $2.50 ea just like Coles does
Used it the other week and worked great
Just get a lemon and boil several times. Works well.
I use a kitchen sponge with a small amount of dish liquid. 60 seconds and it's like new.
Can this be dumped in a coffee machine?
Do you have stains inside your coffee machine?
Thought it would make for some good covid detox.
you need Domestos for that ;)
What am I thinking of? Descaler! Oops.
Yes it can, i've used it.
Here we go again. Summary of the comments every time this “deal” is posted

Can confirm. I've bought this stuff off Amazon for $3.50 before, $5 is normal, occasionally it's more expensive
I forgot to empty the kettle after using this. Mum was not at all happy.
Can this be used for nespresso coffee machine cleaning?
You only need white vinegar, cheap and efficient.
Use vinegar. $1.30 for 2 litres at the supermarket
I use lemon squeeze.
Is it bad I've never cleaned my kettle?
How does this compare to vinegar?
