WFH Shirts That I Don't Sweat Buckets in?

Gday all.

Just had the first stonkingly hot and humid day and as I'm now WFH, that means no aircon.

I'd love to get a couple of shirts that I can stay cool in. I'm currently wearing cotton t-shirts which are very comfy but get a bit stuffy and sweaty when it's real humid.

Anyone got any recs?

I would be keen to grab some linen shirts but the only cheap ones I can see are from uniqlo and I've had mixed experiences in the past. And I don't want cheap scratchy linen because that's uncomfortable.

  • They expect you to wear business shirts while you're working from home?

I've just been wearing plain polo shirts for meetings or t-shirts with no logos for internal or no meetings.

    • Nope, no expectation for business shirts.

Oh sorry, I thought you meant business shirts when you said linen shirts.

If there's no expectation, shirtless is indeed the best! hahahaha
I actually sit in front of my work station at home in my boxers. I do have to remember to put some clothes on before going into a zoom meeting.

          Nah nah, any is ok.

Lmao! I would totally forget to put em back on.

I'd rather not be getting changed / unchanged all day though, in and out of meetings most days :/

The worst for me hasn't actually been forgetting to put my clothes back on. It's when I was in a meeting and i was looking for something while everyone was waiting. I forgot that everyone was there and i let out the loudest fart. Worst thing is, I realised afterwards, but everyone was too polite to say anything! LOLOL. I really wonder what was said afterwards! 😂

            • @bobbified: Good lord haha. That is a truly awful scenario!

@bobbified: How come they know it was you? They cannot smell, the noise is from their own speakers.
Did you lift your bottom to release the surprise?

                @tooblue:

How come they know it was you?

On Zoom, the person that's talking (whether out of their mouth or any other orifice!) is highlighted with a yellow box around their video feed. And believe me, the one I let rip was a loud one! LOL!

    Go shirtless?

Very tempting, though I think the Bintang singlet might be a touch classier.

    • probably afraid to show his keg….

I'm thinking outside the box here … but if you're sweating so much in a cotton t-shirt, why not just buy a portable fan , or even air conditioner?

    • +1

Way too far outside the parameters of the question mate! Come on! I do have a ceiling fan. But I have to go outside a few times a day (coffee run, dog) and pretty opposed to running a portable aircon/installing a proper one.

I don't mind being hot per se, I just want a comfy shirt, ya know? Heat's ok with the right clothes.

      • I was like you, against portable aircon due to their inefficiency and what not. But let me tell you this mate, specially on the super hot days it does wonders. As added bonus mine has sleep mode which is quiet and I have used it on a couple of hot nights and it makes sleeping so much more comfortable. Life is too short to suffer.

The real heat hasn't begun yet. Get a Vornado and point it at a corner of the room (or yourself if you really want). It's brilliant at circulating air and you'll feel much cooler. I barely use the AC anymore.

Costco has them as do various other outlets.

    • I've got a ceiling fan in the office so that's okay - airflow is alright. I just want comfy clothes for the temperature.

      • Ceiling fan and Vornado are not the same thing. It circulates cool air around the room dropping temperature rather than just blowing air at you. Give it a try and return if not impressed (guarantee you won't).

But to answer your question, I like the Reserve Polo shirts from Myer. Commonly on offer for $25-30 each. They're good enough for video calls too with decent collar.

        • Oh yeah nah I get it, but it's more I'm ok with the temperature - don't mind being cozy and warm - I'm just sweating lol. Will check out the Reserves, thanks!

        • I like using my 533DC vornado straight at my face. The speed control lets me make it move slowly enough to be breezy without being uncomfortable.

    • Is it really as good as people say it is? Does it kick up a lot of dust due to its power? I'm quite interested

      • Yes and yes.

    Go au naturel.

Don't forget to turn off your webcam first - or not ;)

    • that's an excellent passive income idea ;-)

Only fans account up and running?

  • Nike Dri-Fit works for me in FNQ and I sweat alot

  • The Uniqlo Linen shirts are alright. Not the softest though just wash them a few times and they break in ok. I wear Icebreaker Merino T Shirts year round although they can get a little hot in full summer..

  • +1

You need quick-dry shirts (meant for sports like running), or shirts that have a very loose type of fiber such as linen.

You can find em' in any Uniqlo or Target store.

  • I find linen shirts to be hot, try something else. Good polo shirts are OK.

try a sweat suit. you won't sweat in buckets, more like bath tubs.

uniqlo dry ex polos have been good for me.
some were on sale last week at $14.90 - back to $29.90 now.

Try the unliqo airsim shirts and specifically the lounge sets shown in their website. I have a few which have come in handy when I don’t want the AC running.

  • Maybe bamboo? Boody sell bamboo tees for men and women.

  • you do realise that while your working from home you can claim a percentage for heating and cooling costs for the ATO ? why not just use a fan or an AC

    • I do use a fan. I'm happy with the temperature, I don't have a problem with being warm, I just want better-performing clothes.

  • Linen

Lululemon polos are Mr PHs go to.

Yes they are expensive compared to other brands but the performance is excellent. They are moisture wicking and do really well both in dry and humid heat.

Bonus, they look pretty professional on Teams/Zoom etc.

    Deodorant stick

  • I mostly wear activewear shirts with collers and a few buttons. These are unbranded and sold at all the bigmarts (BigW, Kmart etc). I sweat a lot and this type of shirt works.

    Mine look like this

  • Loose fitting cotton shirts

  • How about some clothing that has holes or fitness related clothing? I have linked something below.

Silk. We used to source silk shirts for lifting and shedding New holland bales in Tai Tokerau. Cotton would wear through and weigh you down with sweat, but silk drained the sweat away and let the air through to cool you.
This was a place that would hit 85% humidity on a 35 C day after a long dry spell, and the cockies let the kikuya run as it would get enough moisture from the dew during " droughts" to keep growing.
