VOIP Advice Needed

Hi all,

I am launching a new business and it seems that VOIP will be a good solution for our phone needs but I have no experience with it. All we need is a number (no physical line or hardware), the ability to forward it to a mobile phone and a voice mail service.

I am hoping for some advice on possible pitfalls or things to look out for and recommendations. I have investigated a solution through Crazytel which they said costs $1/month + $0.05/min for call forwarding. It seems insanely cheap but I am wondering if I am missing something and there will be some surprise costs I'm not seeing.

Thanks in advance for any help, it's greatly appreciated.

Cheers

  • Do you receive predominately short calls? A 20 minute call would cost you a dollar at those rates.

Also, you can get VOIP apps for your mobile, removing the call forwarding costs, but adding data costs.

  • Thanks for your input.

They would be predominately short calls. We need a region-specific phone number so I'm not sure if the VOIP app for mobile will be the best or is that possible?

A VOIP app just allows you to use your mobile phone to make and receive calls using the service provided by the VOIP company. You don't use your mobile phone service or phone number, your phone is just acting like a computer.

      • ahh ok, thanks.

    • ok, cool, thanks

    • Thank you for the referral :-)

  • Rather than forward to a mobile, you can set up the VoIP on your mobile itself.

Was going to suggest something like the Mynetfone Whirlpoolsaver which is $15 per year for the DID but Crazytel rates are cheaper and only $12 a year for the DID.

    • Thanks so much, I'll investigate this further.

  • Try VOIPLINE https://www.voipline.net.au/hosted-pbx
You can bring your own number/buy their landline number/buy 1300 1800 number, then just drag and drop the call flow using their online system.
Press 1 for person #1, Press 2 person #2, blablabla.
Voicemail can be sent as an email attachment.
$34.95 per number per month. Unlimited local/mobile.
You can try the $7.95 first to gauge how many calls you're getting/need to forward.
You don't need to buy any handset/hardware if you setup the call flow correctly.

  • I don't know about Crazytel but with Siptalk you can have a DID pointing to a number of extensions. You can install an extension on your mobile using https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.grandstrea…. Customer rings your DID and all extensions ring at once. No need to pay for cost of forwarding. If you don't answer voicemail gets emailed to you.

  • I can help you with what you need. You can either forward to a mobile or use a mobile app(softphone).
