I don't like name.com. I used to like them but then they suddenly took everyone's whois privacy away. Namecheap FTW.
They didn't take away whois privacy, they just made it so it's not free any more. They didn't remove it from anyone that already had it. The "FREEWHOIS" coupon code should still work, but then you can't use other coupon codes.
I like Name.com's control panel layout a lot better than NameCheap.

Don't a lot of registrars offer free transfer? Or is that just if you have a hosting account with them as well?
It's been a while since I've bought/transferred a domain.
Usually you need to pay for a 1-year renewal at the time of transfer. This offer was $0.99 for a transfer and one-year renewal.
Yeah that's what I meant, I was getting one year renewal as well.
It must have been a bonus/incentive for moving to them I'd say. It's hard to remember now, it's been so long since. I do remember that I didn't have to pay anything until that year was up and had to renew again. I still had the option to transfer away from them though. I think they were just counting on people not moving away at the end of that 12 months.
