Do I Need to Buy All The Aerpro Products Listed if I Want to Upgrade to an Aftermarket Headunit?

I got a Kia Sportage 2013 AWD Platinum, wants to get a new headunit (e.g. Sony XAV-AX5000), so the aerpro.com suggests to buy a lot of stuff, do I need to buy them all?

For example, input Sony XAV-AX5000 on this page https://aerpro.com/vehicles/kia/kia-sportage-2010-2015-sl and choose the last "with small clock display", the listed products include:

  1. Headunit to ISO harness with patch lead: Retaining steering wheel controls (APP9SP4)
  2. Facia (997344G)
  3. Vehicle Specific Steering Wheel Control Interfaces (CHKI14C)
  4. Aftermarket Headunit Antenna Adapter (APA47)
  5. Factory Headunit Antenna Adaptor (APA64)

Just wondering do I need to buy all 5 products above? I assume like product 2 and 5, can I use my existing ones?

Thanks in advance.

Do I Need to Buy All The Aerpro Products Listed

    Yes

I assume like product 2 and 5, can I use my existing ones?

    No

I'm sure you can see that the fascia kit is different to yours. It allows you to have a standard double-din

    • Thanks mate, any differences between 4 and 5, since I'm going to install an aftermarket headunit, do I still need the "Factory headunit Antenna Adaptor"?

      • +2

        Yes.

  • You dont need number 3, if you get the Sony input cable (allegedly just cut a 3.5mm jack off disused earphones). This also goes for Kenwood/JVC (but they include it)

    • I imagine OP will definitely need 3 to keep steering wheel controls. I couldn't make the Sony one work with my Kia Carnival

    • You still need 3. How else are you going to decode the signal from the car into something the head unit recognises?

      • The JVC/Kenwood learn based on what you press and set up. I'm fairly sure the Sony does the same, but haven't installed one so not 100% sure.

        https://www.kenwood.com/au/car/visual_navigation/oem/

        • Maybe, I've tried it previously and it didn't work well.

          • @brendanm: Worked fine for me 🤷‍♂️ the Aerpro car-iso harness even had the SWC wires stripped back and ready to solder.

            • @ol mate: Actually 3 is the most expensive one, around $250, if it's working without that, it can save a lot of money.

  • By the part names it should be obvious what they all do and what would happen if you didn't get one.
    1. Connects headunit to the car wiring
    2. New dash panel to fit new headunit shape
    3. Do you want steering wheel controls, I guess you could call this optional
    4. For radio reception, again optional, if you want radio
    5. Not sure

  • I'm not convinced you need both 4 and 5.

    APA47

Factory antenna to aftermarket headunit adapter

Some vehicles are fitted with a specific style of antenna plug, this can make upgrading to an aftermarket headunit a bit tricky. Aerpro antenna adapters simply plug into the vehicles specific antenna plug and convert it to a standard plug (DIN) which is suitable for most aftermarket headunits.

    To suit Hyundai i10/i30 2007-2010, i40 2011 onwards

    APA64

Factory headunit to aftermarket antenna adapter

It sounds like APA64 is needed only when you get an aftermarket antenna to replace your factory antenna? I'm banking that you only need 4.

    • I'm not convinced you need both 4 and 5.

Correct, APA64 is if you are keeping stock head unit, and adding an aftermarket antenna. APA47 if replacing factory headunit and want to use stock antenna. APA47 is what OP needs.

    • I'd argue no one really listens to radio anymore so I'd save the money and leave it out altogether.

      • It's ~$10, may as well have the functionality there in case OP wants to sell the car in the future and knowing his/her luck the new buyer wants radio :)

  • When I installed the stereo into our Carnival, I only bought the facia kit - everything else was cut / solder / heatshrink.
The Sony headunits (at least in the case of our XAV-AX3000) can be programmed without an interface if it's a simple loop system.
Our Kia Grand Carnival has two cables for the steering wheel controls, one is ground and the other is signal return. In the menu there's an option to program the buttons, you press which one you're programming and then press and hold the button on the wheel and it remembers the return signal.
I imagine being Kia it would be much the same but worth pulling up a wiring diagram to find out.

  • Hi Guys, I'm trying to figure out what I need for Camry with sony ax1000
I'm really confused by the number of harnesses
    1. Sony ax1000
    2. facia FPA8180
    3. ISO harness with patch lead APP9SP4
    4. CHTO15C and CHTO3C? which do I need? APP9SP4 already retains steering wheel control?
    5. Universal ISO connectors & SWC adaptors APUNISW2 and APUNISW5 (More steering wheel control?)
    6. Primary Harnesses - ISO APP0141
    7. Aftermarket Headunit Antenna Adapter APA75
    8. T-Harnesses CT10TY01
    9. OEM Speaker Adapters APS43

That's a lot of stuff, do I need all these? where can I buy them all at once?
