Adding an after Market Cruise Control?

Is this possible? I am about to commence doing a lot more freeway kms and want to add an after-market cruise control to an Automatic 2008 WQ Fiesta. Low KMs (<100k), maintained well and should run for a long while yet.

Yes, its not the greatest car for highway kms, but I feel if I can add cruise control to it, I'll get a lot more time out of this car as thats what annoys me on the freeway. I want to drive this thing into the ground before replacing it as it runs on the smell of an oily rag and costs us practically nothing.

Any auto gurus know if this is possible?

  • It certainly is possible.

KMart used to sell generic aftermarket CC units costing about $100. A mechanic friend and I were kept busy fitting them.

Repco (and probably SCA etc) sell Cruise Control Kits, you'll have to check that they'll fit your vehicle.

  • It's possible.
I've done this many years ago to my Toyota Corolla.
I think I've done it at Northfield Car Sound for about $700

Because automatic cars aren't already easy enough to drive?

I wish there is an automatic indicator on the market.

With very little leeway from revenue cameras cruise control is a necessity these days.

  • $500-900 installed but probably not worth it on a 3k car.
    I’d be upgrading.

Give OP a $3.9k car with cruise that is an upgrade thank.

Ozbargainers use a telescopic broom stick

Thanks for the input guys.. seems it's got legs to spend time investigating.

Not interested in upgrading the car as it's pissing money into the wind IMHO when this serves the purpose. Car is in great condition for what I need, and I know the history.

Going from a car that has cruise to not having cruise on freeway driving sucks. Me and Mrs swapped cars post-first baby, and I've overcome every feature I enjoy of my old car except for cruise. So even at $900 - it's probably money well spent for me given atleast 3-4years of use.

Some models you can do it MUCH cheaper than $700.

A lot of Toyota models were sold with the pov version without cruise control but with cruise control in higher spec options; adding cruise control is just a matter of buying the stalk (about $25 to $30 on ebay) and plugging it into the ECU, which already has the cruise control software installed. This might be true for some other brands; go googling.

You have an electronic throttle body, so there are a couple of ways you can add cruise. You should be able to retrofit the genuine cruise control buttons/stalk, and have the BCM/ecu programmed to recognise it. There will also be similar things available aftermarket that should be plug and play. Eg http://www.canm8.com/precision-cruise-ford-fiesta.html

Looks like you can just add the pad etc. Not cheap

  • I'd ask on the Aussie Ford forums in the relevant section, if someone else has done it they can advise better than most

  • You could try a brick on the accelerator pedal.
