        • 12 not 15.

          5 + 10 usually = 15

          • @jv: You replied to my message, not his. I said 12. ;-)

      • Covered that several messages above. Great if it works. Not so great when it doesn't. This is set, forget, and produces consistent results.

Bought one of these and the plastic smell coming off it when heating was nauseous.
It went away after several runs but I did not feel safe eating from it so threw it away and did not eat from it.

    • Thanks for saving me from pulling the trigger.

I have Multiple Chemical Sensitivities and live in the bush as a result.

Never had a problem with these.

Are you sure it's not the other brand that looks very similar but is more like a plain tupperware container with a flat top, instead of the locking clips? Never had any smell from this one and I've used it hundreds of times.

Sold - cooking rice has become a hot topic in this household.

  • Bought one of these last time it was $5. Works really well for us. 1 cup of rice, wash it, 2 cups of water, 12 mins in the microwave, stir and leave for 5 minutes and it's done.

  • Uncle Roger will not approve

    • Is this recommended by Aunty Helen?

  • Uncle Roger shaking his head rn. Does this come with free colander?

So sad that i need to put my leg down…

  • This is so not necessary when making rice in the microwave…well when it comes to basmati anyway. We've been making it forever in a normal microwaveable bowl with 2:1 boiling water to rice ratio and it comes out perfect every time. 15 minutes (give or take depending on your microwave) for 2 cups uncooked rice.

    • This is good because some rice causes frothy bubbles that spill everywhere. This has an insert that catches, bursts, and sends that froth and moisture back down into the container preventing water in the bottom of the microwave.

Should I be concerned about heating the plastic on HIGH for 10+ minutes repeatedly? Are there are certifications or standards it has been tested to?

I would love to buy one but want some peace of mind.

    • there should be a glass version from a different brand out there

    • More likely to get brain cancer from watching The Project.

  • According to Amazon, I purchased one of these on the 17th July - Stuffed if I know if it actually arrived, or where I put it…

  • Good concept, bought one yesars ago, but my microwave told me doesn't want haveing sauna too often.

    • I turn the power off and leave the door open while eating. It's steam, not solid water. So it's usually dry in 20 minutes.

      • I did the same, but I don't feel it's good for microwave in long term so bought a small rice cooker.

        • Come to think of it I had a painted microwave that rusted badly. But I used to shut its door right after too. I only use stainless steel microwaves now and leave the door open to dry.

Just grabbed one from BigW pickup. Thanks OP.

Was going to buy a Tupperware one recently for x5 times the pRICE.

  • Can anyone tell me how to post a deal? I can't find it…thanks.

I've used this many times, and it's great.
Also good for softening potatoes to make your own mash.

    • Ohhhh nice. I'll try making mash potatoes with it next time

    • I found another way because I hate peeling. Stick fork into each potatoe 2 or 3 times (don't peel them). Microwave on high until you open the door and see the skin 'depuffs' and then shows wrinkles. Transfer to cold water with tongs, wait a couple of minutes, skin rubs off easily, into saucepan and mash.

  • I don't even need one but I'm on a spending spree…

  • Thank you, been waiting for this. Bought one last time and love it.

  • These are great. Ratio of rice/water is 1:1.5. Cook on high for 5 minutes then half power for 7 minutes. Stays hot while you cook everything else.

  • I use this to make asian style congee. 1:8 water ratio. 20 min high, 10 mins half power. Put in dried scallops or some meat. As Uncle Roger says, everything is better with MSG so dont forget that.

    • Thanks. I tried making it in an instant pot and it kept telling me it was burnt. Microwave sounds much easier.

      • Microwave is so easy. Quick tip. Do stir it around once a while. Just to break up any clumps. The 10 mins half power is pretty important to reduce risk of over flow. I find 2/3 cup of rice, 4.5 cups of water makes a good 2 serve brekkie. Add more water towards the end if you like it watery.

  • Says $11 for me

  • Anyone tried brown rice in this ?

    • Yes, easy. Have done jasmine rice, brown rice and freekeh with this rice cooker. Will try couscous next

  • not approved by Uncle Roger for sure lol

    • No idea who this Roger guy was so I searched… Asians with names like 'Roger' have zero credibility lol.

  • Christ are you guys for real! All this for just cooking rice!

Anyway, what about risotto? I heard it was Italian for 'who stuffed the rice!'
