What Company Has Handled Pre-Orders The Best? PS5/XBOX

As tomorrow arrives, more pre-orders will be placed.

What company has been decent at handling their pre-orders on this first wave?

Comments

  • Gamesmen for me. They've notified me they now have packed the package and ready to be delivered tomorrow!

I think Amazon might be one of the worst…

Edit: This is for delivery, not pick up.

Amazon shipped my order from Perth to Sydney, 10 days delivery…

EB Games, i picked up my series x on release day no issues.
Amazon only just posted my second series x preorder today so ill get that tomorrow two days after launch.

EB Games - Don't usually recommend them for rip-off game prices but console purchase has been flawless.

Ordered, got confirmation launch day stock straight away and also call couple weeks before launch to say next week there's a special event to trade-in PS4 Pro and get bonus on unwanted games.

Traded in everything couple days ago, got a fastpass ticket and told can pickup at 7AM tomorrow with no fuss.

I bought one from every retailer so I can post this review.

    … said no one ever.

  • Ordered my Xbox Series X direct from Microsoft. Arrived yesterday on release day no problems. They have also been good as regards communication both before advising tracking and payment and after delivery with welcome to Series X emails. I know these are all automated but they have been done well. (Just a pity there isn't really much to play on it at the moment other than re-enjoying some old games with faster loading and better frame rates).

Ordered PS5 from Sony and looks from tracking that hopefully it will be here on release day tomorrow but have to say email communication hasn't been as good so far at least. Only discovered it was shipped by logging on and checking status of the order myself.

My son has a PS5 coming from Amazon and they are doing ok but looks like they will not be delivering until Monday even though he ordered around the same time I did on pre-order day.

    • Had the opposite experience with Microsoft. They cancelled my order without notice and I was never told about payment being made, so I'm without a console on release :( Have spoken to others that have had the same happen to them.

EB Games for smooth pick up arrangement.

Not so much with Amazon. Money taken, no action still.

    PS5.

  • Not Target. No info given so far other than a generic, no real info included email. Had to get an update via Facebook.
They haven't even sent the original pre-orders to stores for C&C. They're being posted on the 12th, so we have to wait for them to arrive at the stores, be processed and then be contacted to collect them.

    • I learned that lesson years ago. Target seem to send it out by snail mail on the day it is resleased, I think it was a game I preordered. Took over a week to arrive to Adelaide.

      • Wish I’d known before hand. I’d have gotten it delivered instead of C&C and saved myself a drive.
Still would have ordered from them though because I did get a discount.

        • I retract what I said before. Inspite of what Target chat & facebook support said about having to what 1-7 days, I got my PS5 today. Recieved the email within an hour of chat support telling me it would be 3-7 days before I got it.

  • Telstra. It was very straight forward and they let you cancel the subscription when you want so the most extra you're on the hook for is one month of Gamepass at $15. Very clever of Microsoft because what kid is going to let their parents cancel Gamepass.

Would have to say EB games as well. Grabbed on it on the day. Super easy.

EB Games had good communication (PS5) I paid the balance yesterday, they gave me a priority slip for quick pick up for this morning.

  • massive line outside the local JB this morning as i walked past to work

  • +1

    EB Games.

Smooth transaction, transparent, and able to trade in PS4/Xbone + games and accessories.

A year ago I wouldn't say this but is the truth.

    They got better lately.

  • JB Hifi - PS5

My experience pre-ordering online has been good overall. Communication has been great. Plenty of confirmation emails & SMS in the run up to launch, and a phone call earlier this week to confirm.

I wasn't impacted by the whole gift-card saga, so the only minor negative is that my local store's COVID safety plan has assigning folk to timeslots throughout today. I have to wait to later today. :)

out of the 10 consols i got I would say Microsoft and EB Games

  • EB Games, 100%. People will continue to slate us for our ridiculous prices that are RRP, but once you place an order with us it is always fulfilled. Not to mention the exceptional value offered to those wanting to part with their old hardware/ games during VIP week. Our Customer service team have been working late, dealing with your abuse and still delivering service with a smile.

    Kudos EB.

Seriously, you're going to defend EB prices even though everyone knows that you consistently charge more than any other retailer? Even stores which don't specialise in games can sell them for way cheaper.

Plus the only impressive thing about your price-match guarantee is that it hasn't been culled by the ACCC yet, since you only honour it 40% of the time with baseless stipulations thrown in whenever it suits you.

Brother, I have no idea what angle you are trying to come towards me with.

EB Games charges consumers the RRP on all of its stocked items. Let's educate the kids at home what RRP stands for. The 'Recommended Retail Price (RRP)' is the selling price of a product officially suggested by a manufacturer to a retailer.

If a competitor decides to drop below this, that is their own discretion to. Ever wondered why stores that don't specialise in games "can sell them for way cheaper?" Let's answer this ripper question. JB sells TVs they charge RRP on. Big W is a department store that marks up their other products to overcome the loss on games. In short, those stores don't rely on video game sales to stay afloat. Taa daa!

Baseless stipulations? We don't price match online stores, the item needs to be exact and the competitor needs to have it in stock at the time of match and excludes hardware. Literally the only conditions.

        Over to you.

        • Not the consumers fault that EB failed to adapt to the times.

Time is ticking and Zing doesn't seem like it's gonna save it.

          • @AydenFX: What do you even mean? Adapt to the times? Literally doesn't change your RRP argument..

Ever wondered why stores that don't specialise in games "can sell them for way cheaper?"

It's not just big retailers. Gamesmen and other game-focused stores can sell for cheaper than EB too.

The reason for this is that they're usually smarter with their business strategy. Better marketing, more community involvement, added value etc. EB is terrible at all of those things.

JB sells TVs they charge RRP on.

If you pay RRP at JB then you'd leave feeling ripped off because they consistently sell for well below RRP. They have catalogue specials every weekend where you can easily get a few hundred dollars off a TV.

In short, those stores don't rely on video game sales to stay afloat. Taa daa!

Very few stores can, that's why most diversify. Kudos to EB for taking a marginal step by partnering with Zing, but it doesn't look to be saving them. It may be too little too late.

Baseless stipulations? We don't price match online stores, the item needs to be exact and the competitor needs to have it in stock at the time of match and excludes hardware. Literally the only conditions.

Mate we've all done the EB price match dance before. Other random conditions thrown in include the store needing to be in the same shopping centre or within a 5-10km distance, the item needs to be in stock at the exact time of inquiring, not applicable with seasonal specials or promotions etc.

Even when these conditions are met, people are sometimes told "nah that's too cheap we can't do match it". We all know by now, you simply match when it suits you.

          • @SlavOz: For real, my old boss would use "needs to be in this shopping centre' sometimes and others he wouldn't. It's no joke when it suits them, or poor training from the get-go. Either way, it's a joke.

    • EBGames have failed to fulfill many orders of mine in the past. Namely giving away the preorder bonuses and switching me from the collector's editions (which is what I preordered) to the standard editions then asking full price which was usually $30 or more above the competition. They got real confused when I didn't want to continue supporting them for some reason.

  • Has anyone who pre-ordered on Amazon received their estimated shipping date. I still have no info about when it will be shipped and only received one email from Amazon who said my stock had been sourced. Pretty frustrating considering it is delivery day and absolutely 0 update.

    • Same situation. It (profanity) sucks.

I've been on so many live chats and phone calls and no one will tell me anything. They haven't even taken payment and I ordered 15 minutes after it went live.

      • from today?

        • +1

I ordered on 17 September just after 10am.

      • Same situation on my end. Ordered on pre-order date 15 mins post live using zip pay/30$ amazon credit.

    • I've ordered a charging dock from Amazon weeks ago, and it is currently unavailable with no indication of when it will ship.

  • I was one of the very first preorders done through the Microsoft store. They shipped the console a week early but the shipping company bounced it from city to city in two different states, supposedly because Microsoft had a strict "Do not deliver until 10 November" instruction included with it. The console did not arrive launch day which is quite pathetic coming from the very company that makes the console.

  • JB HiFi process was good
They rectified payment via gift card and refunded card payment quickly.

They rang me one week prior to confirm pickup time

I picked up and walked out happy customer.
