Yeah sorry, caught it few seconds after hitting publish.

      • I don't blame you missing it that description is phenomenal, my liege

        • I thought master race of displays is OLED 🤣🤣

  • +1

better off not using the 5% code & instead using 10% cashrewards/shopback, but check terms first

    • +1

Purchased through Cashrewards and have tracked $136 back on my order - bringing it to $1362.96 ($31.33 saving).

  • +4

Code 'LOVEKEANU' drops it to $1394.29

    • This is a valid coupon code, but there are no matching items currently in your cart.

      ???

      • You'll have to remove 'BONUS5' first then add 'LOVEKEANU'.

        Code doesn't stack.

        • I was editing my comment with that when you replied :D

          Thanks, I'll update the post.

I bought this one in Sep. on the official website(less than $1.4k), and found a major faulty in the first week. after that, they sent me a refurbished one. I lodged a complaint, and they said they would refund as no stock in AU now.
Last Xmas, I spent nearly $5k for my Alienware laptop, the motherboard stopped working within 6 months.
    In general, Alienware sucks.

    • I picked one up in Sep also, recently delivered. No issues so far, amazing monitor!

    • +1

I have this monitor and would also not recommend it. Have never experienced popping and creaking sounds of plastic as bad as this, extremely susceptible to heat expansion. Also there is noticeable coil whine at the bottom of the monitor. Otherwise everything else is lovely. Dell customer support is also not as good as people put it to be.

    • I think they use the same trick to mine one as well. I bought one with discount price. Faulty after one month and replaced with a refurbished one full of scratches on back cover and obvious glue exposed (yea i know it was terrible!) Maybe previous version had better reputation.

    • Mine has no issues so far, bought in Dec 2019 and received in Jan 2020. YMMV.

Last Xmas, I spent nearly $5k

Last Christmas I gave you my monitor but the very next day you sent it awayyyyyyyyyy
This year to save me from tears, I'll give it to someone specialllllllll

  • not bad, just 120hz is a bit dated at the end of 2020

    • This is IPS, high refresh IPS on an ultrawide is still quite rare, only LG came out with something faster at 144hz a few months ago if i remember correctly

  • +1

Is this the panel that only runs at 120hz via overclocking?

    • +1

      Nah it's 120hz native.

AW3821DW is rumoured to release on 27th this month

    • I think that is in US, not AU.

      • +1

The AW3821DW has already been released in USA and Canada I believe: https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/accessories/apd/210-AXVG

        • I'm already superflexing with this panel in my 38WN95-C.

It's amazing. Most of the time I have it at 20% brightness unless gaming, and at night or early morning 0%.

Nano IPS ftw. With my VA panel 34" I would always notice the difference from my 55" OLED when watching video. Now, I don't see as much difference besides the aspect ratio….. at least it's bearable to watch a whole TV episode.

          • @zan5hin: Been waiting for the 38WN95C to come into stock for months now. When and how did you get one?

            • +1

@jemlang: I'm surprised it's not on staticice at all now, wtf?

I just ordered it from Megabuy about mid-August. I would message their live chat.

Be forewarned, mine has two stuck green pixels. Depending on the price of the AW3821DW, that 1 pixel warranty sounds good.

              • @zan5hin: Thanks for the heads up. That would be very frustrating.

    • Will it be anywhere near $1400?

      • No chance.

        • +1

          Twiddles thumbs…

      • $1,899.99 USD.

        • Rumoured to RRP for $2499 aud

The RRP on the aw3420dw was $2499 earlier this year but has since come down to $1999

          • @chew_chew: So buy this one now. Wait a year or so, keep an eye on discounts and sell this one to a VA peasant.

            This is the OzBargain way.

            • +2

@Shard: I already have the aw3420dw and am tempted to upgrade when the aw3821dw goes on discount :)

Highly recommend the aw3420dw though. 120hz not the fastest but I love the aesthetic.

            • @Shard: been trying to sell mine to those peasants but they keep on low balling you… listed for 1.3k like a few months ago and keep on getting stupid offers

          • +2

@chew_chew: RRP for AW3821DW is supposed to be AU$2249 according to Kotaku

            • +1

@twister292: No chance it will be lower than CAD pricing, I'm going to assume anywhere between 2600-3000

              • @smako69: Twister might be onto something ;)

                • @LiMaaa: Never trust Kotaku pricing. We'll all see in due time :)

                  • +1

                    @smako69: It's accurate. I know.

                    • @LiMaaa: I hope you're right, but I'm certain we won't be getting that price. Direct conversion from USD is 2605 and we never get 1:1 pricing here.

            • @twister292: Ur right! I also read the same article but must have remembered the wrong number lol

    • This looks like the new daddy for ultrawide gaming.

    • Interesting release date, huh.

      • +1

let's hope for 30% off on release :P

  • Works fine with PS5?

    • +4

The PS5 doesn't support ultra wide or 1440p resolutions, so no.

      • -3

That doesn't mean it doesn't 'work' however.

        • +4

What's the point of getting it though if two of its key features aren't compatible. Moronic to buy this for use with a ps5.

    • +5

      Works fine with SNES?

      • +3

        u can upscale to 80p @ 8000 hz

    • From https://blog.playstation.com/2020/11/09/ps5-the-ultimate-faq…

Supported resolutions are 720p, 1080i, 1080p, and 2160p. PS5 can output resolutions up to 2160p (4K UHD) when connected to a 4K display.

  • +3

Is it really that noticable between the xiaomi and this monitor? I would expect it to be when it's nearly 3 times the price.

  • +1

    That price is breathtaking

    • +2

      You're breathtaking ;)

  • -2

ips is on it's last legs and going out of fashion oled is the future, this is might be a nice relic though

    • this is actually Nano IPS, latest panel type with 98% DCI-P3, not old IPS

As for this panel itself, I passed as is only 8bit and no local dimming

    • +8

Yeah, cuz everyone loves desktop burn-in. Sign me up.

    • +4

OLED is a basket case, no manufacturer will touch because it comes with too many caveats for monitors. They will all transition to mini LED and then eventually we will get micro LED.

    • OLED is great but it actually isn't the future, that would be Mini-LED and MicroLED.

      • so you're saying i should hold off on buying oled and wait for mini/micro led? done

        • ill see you in a decade

        • I'd personally hold off till next year at least. I was a first adopter of OLED in 2014 and it's starting to show some burn-in now. Only visible on pure red screen but still.. Mini/MicroLED are meant to be more resilient and won't have that problem.

        • +1

Micro LED, sure. Mini LED is okay, but it's still a backlit system.

Micro LED and OLED are both self-emissive displays. Mini LED is just an upgrade of the LED-LCD structure we've got now for the majority of TVs.

Self-emissive is always better if you can do it.

    • +2

OLED monitors have been the next big thing just around the corner for 10 years now.

  • Note that it’s only display port 1.2 and hdmi 1.4 - disappointing given the price I think

  • Upvoted for title lul

  • I have this monitor. Moved on from a Dell 4k photography one, and I really like it.

  • I'm happy being a peasant

  • anyone else love the smell of unboxing computer hardware, it's kinda addicting.

  • +1

Was interested, read those 3 absolutely useless "awards and reviews" they linked. A packaging award, LOL, a paragraph about "design language strategy", and a completely useless review. Googled for a real review, found it was reviewed by RTings, https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/dell/alienware-aw3420… , and now I'm not interested in the monitor.

Bad out of box calibration, no local dimming, contrast below what Alienware state, low peak brightness after calibration, can't see much appeal to this monitor.

    • True…I'd go LG 34GN850 over the AW3420DW.

That said, the AW3821DW is looking like a decent prospect at $2249 and hopefully a good black friday deal…The LG 38GN950, Acer X38 and LG 38WN95 are quite expensive with the same panel, with the Acer nudging $3k

  • In stock again FYI.
