Bar Fridge with a Freezer Issue

Guys, I've got a bar fridge for food and drink overflow, went to restock it and the ice cream in the freezer was a bit soft. Turned up the main dial, and the fridge stuff has icicles in it now. Ditch the fridge ?

I am not an expert. But when I had a bar fridge, I had to defrost the ice every few months to defrost them and clean it. If you leave it for too long, ice may build up and slowly push the pipe inside the fridge(which happened to me). But it did not really affect its function as freezer. So possibly its a normal behaviour of a bar fridge?

Keep fridge for beer (and mince).
    Buy real freezer.

Bar fridges don't make good fridges or freezers.

Get a smallish 2 door fridge for better success.

Deleted for a neg post without reason.

Bar fridges are ok for freezing water for ice cubes, maybe even storing icecream for a day or two, but the freezer is in the fridge, its not seperate, so its true freezing capabilities are very limited.

As others have said and you have experienced, long term as an effective freezer it overchills the fridge as its using same cooling panels to do both.

So dont ditch the fridge, just ditch the icecream (or put it in your main fridge),

    • thanks, and yep you're bang on. I never had this issue before, but using it in a different way these days with less supermarket trips.

  • Does it have a defrost function ?

    • no, I just turned the main dial down and it worked a treat.

Get a cheap fridge thermometer from a $2 shop (it has to measure down to at least -20C) and see what the actual problem is.

    • cheers mate, will do
