F*** Everything, We're Doing One Blade

Edit: oh come on Scotty! A profanity filter on hidden URLs? This brings prudishness to a new level! Replaced with google link.

  • This seems super expensive?

    • You sound surprised. It is a razor blade. They have a well-know history for insane pricing, like printer ink or perfume.

I bought my double edge razor from aldi (works well!) for $17 and the replacement blades are ridiculously affordable.

        • Nice! I didn't see that one come up. This one is definitely an expensive upfront purchase. But I am hoping I can find some replacement blades in Australia and it will last me a life time. It uses injector blades which are meant to be very common.

This might not be for everyone, but I am keen to try the sensitive shave setting to see if it can help with my skin :)

      • Vb EDT at CWH - $19.99 and drives the ladies WILD.

        • Thanks, my printer just ran out of ink!

      • You sound surprised. It is a razor blade. They have a well-know history for insane pricing, like printer ink or perfume.

Yeah but that's only for those multi-blade cons jobs like anything Gillette makes.

        • Yes, I mean prices are all over the place, and bear no relation to manufacturing cost. Those companies like Gillette make so many false and misleading claims, it is an old joke now. But a twin blade can work better than a single, or at least save a little time, depending on your skin. But if you prefer a single, that is great. They work differently:

I’d rather get a double edge razor for less.

Any of these, which you can get for cheaper still

Throw in a set of feather blades and you’re laughing.

    • Yeah they have some decent looking ones there for cheaper you're right.
I liked how this has different settings though. My skin is super sensitive and I have tried a few different multi-blade razors over the years and they always leave me with a rash.

This one is supposed to be good for that, seems like it could last me a lifetime if I treat it well so I thought I would give it a go.
This one uses injector blades which I believe Feather actually make too?

      • Feather don’t make injector blades.

Personna and Schlick dominate this market. Of the 2, I prefer the Schicks. These can be found on eBay.

        • Yeah I literally just saw that. Cheers mate. Seems like you can get a 20 pack for around $15 on eBay/Amazon. Seems to be pretty decently priced.

          • @JoKing: I too got sensitive skins and cartridge razors always leave rash and ingrown hairs. Now I changed to safety razors and got a pack of 100 ASTRA SP blades for $15. Works great. Clean shave, super cheap and no more rashes and ingrown hairs.

  • From their site:

    $9 Razor + $9 Blades Monthly

    What?

Yeah it gets a bit rough towards the end but one cheap disposable per month sitting in the shower does my face and I suspect my partner's armpits.

    • I think they're saying that is the cost of a normal multi-blade razor + replacement blade/heads?

I guess they're also trying to be a bit environmentally friendly, I don't imagine the disposable ones are recyclable.

I guess they're also trying to be a bit environmentally friendly

Worrying about one razor per month is a bit like demanding non-plastic straws when ordering a big mac from your running car at the maccas drive-through.

But if everyone had that mentality we would get no where. I am in no way going to tie myself to a tree or anything, but I think if everyone made small changes it would add up,
A quick google showed that around 160 million people in the US used disposable razors. Even if 25% of those people changed their mentality, that's a lot less waste.

          • @JoKing: Dude, the single biggest change you can make, apart from deciding to not have children, is to eat plant based foods exclusively. If you don't do that to start you are just fiddling while Rome burns. Your razors and straws ain't adding up to squat.

            • +1

@fantombloo: I think we are talking about different things though. I understand that plant based diets are better in terms of emissions. But doesn't change too much in terms of waste or rubbish. Whereas using less straws, no plastic bags, etc. are good ways to reduce the amount of landfill and rubbish that end up in the environment.

              • @JoKing: The amount of waste, especially water pollution, due to animal ag is overwhelming. The sheer amount of inputs into animal ag cause massive waste. The amount of land taken by landfill compared to that destroyed or degraded by animal ag is negligible. Most destruction due to animal ag is not so in your face like an improperly disposed of wrapper on the side of the street, but it's there.

I'm not saying the little things aren't important, but focusing on them while ignoring the elephant in the room is nothing but a diversion, and these diversions are great for single issue groups (Greenpeace, WWF, etc) and other businesses, like razor and straw companies, to trade on.

Razor blade cartridges can be recycled.
        https://www.terracycle.com/en-AU/brigades/gillette-au
I can't find any place that recycles used double edge or injector blades. Metal recyclers consider them a bio-hazard.

        • Hey that's good. I didn't know that was a thing. Definitely good for the replaceable heads (not so much the disposable razors though).
I will look into how to dispose the blades. They are made out of recyclable material so I would be surprised if there isn't someway to do it.

For this price I'd require it to produce and apply the foam before going to autoshave, washdown and towel dry. Even then I'd be expecting a handshake finish…and change.

Found this to be one of the worst scooters I've ever ridden. Not recommended.
