  is there a way to unlock this phone cheaper?
  (instead of paying the $25 unlock fee + additional $50 if unlock within 6 months thru vodafone website)

    Maybe just get a Hello Mobile pre paid sim "supa plan"
    It's the best i can find and it's through the vodafone network so it should work without unlocking.

  I picked up one of these a few days ago, they are $49 from Coles Mobile atm, locked to optus. Can either pay $80 to unlock it, spend $80 on prepaid, or wait 1 year and unlock for free.
  Not a bad phone for very basic use. Just a basic phone with the added feature of the internet.
