Which Provider Should I Go to for an nbn Plan 50/20 Unlimited (or So Speed for Upload)

Moving out for the first time and I'm looking for plans like the one listed above. I'm currently leaning towards Spintel on the 64.95/month plan. But i just want to know what everybody else reckons.

Comments

  • Do you want an opinion on Spintel or want to other's opinion on what they have noting that the prices are likely to be different?

Did you want options at the price of $65 a month or less/more?

    • I already have opinions on Spintel (not so good ones) and I also want opinions on what other people have experienced with other providers. I am looking for a 50/20 and am willing to pay for a plan of a similar price. Less or more I don't mind. I'd say my limit would be 70ish a month though. Must also be unlimited.

I'm with Belong on 30/20 for $55pm. Biggest QoL improvement is the upload speed - don't really max out the 30mbs unless I'm downloading a game but I can leave the PC on overnight. Customer service was shite the one time I needed helped (line issue so it was down for neighbours too).

    • belong is good. but you cant sign up without getting their router.

      • I'm using my existing router and just shelved their junk, so yeah you have to get the thing but you don't have to use it.

        • and a 12-months contract to get their router for free. otherwise its $60

I'm with Aussie Broadband, and have been for some time. My experience with them has been absolutely fantastic. The staff are always helpful, knowledgeable and prompt. They are all Australian (owned, run and All call centres are here.)
The service itself is fantastic. It works. When it breaks, they are prompt about fixing it.
You pay a little more, but IMHO it's worth the extra. $79 a month for 50/20.

  • i chose mates. $69/month. no contract. 1 month risk free guarantee.

Highly recommend Launtel. Use a lucky person's referral code or PM me for mine. You'll get $25, referrer gets $50. The speeds have been great but the best part is, you can change your plan on a daily basis (25/5, 50/20 and 100/40). I work in IT and sometimes I need the extra upload bandwidth, so I switch for a day to 100/40 and then back to 25/5. Their customer support has been great too, local call centre.

EDIT: I also had a 1 week free trial, not sure if that's still on.

    • Right now I have boiled it down to Launtel and Belong. Does Launtel offer a modem to purchase with their plan?

      • If you're on the NBN already, you shouldn't need anything new to move to Launtel. AFAIK they don't have long term contracts, so modems are not added to the plan.

        • Ohh okay so just sign up for the plan and once they do whatever they need to do on their end I should be right to go? Because this is my first rental so I don't have any modems or gear at the moment, the house does have NBN though, FTTN specifically.

          • @SahDude: For the NBN, you need two things:
            - a router (any model) which can provide WiFi. You can re-use any old router for this home network.
            - the white NBN box which allows your router to talk to the network. This stays in the property, even if you move out.

Do you have one or both?

EDIT: If you have the white NBN box, Launtel can sign you up and will get back to you if they have questions.

            • @soan papdi: I have the white NBN box only.

              • @SahDude: So you should be able to sign up now.

However, without the router you can't access the internet. So maybe you can buy a basic router first (e.g. Belkin, Netgear, DLink etc) and then sign up. Call them at 1800 LAUNTEL and see if they can ship you anything or have recommendations. Their phone support is very quick and efficient.

                • @soan papdi: Surely you can ethernet PC to NBN box, sign in via PC Settings with UN & PW.

@Chris Topher: Have you tried it? I haven't. This page indicates a router is required: https://www.whistleout.com.au/Broadband/Faqs/do-I-need-a-new…

Also it's a good thing to have a router anyway, otherwise the PC will be directly connected to the Internet. Not a good thing usually.

                  • @Chris Topher: You can get the internet up and running with a PC connected to the NBN connection box. This setup is meant to be used for testing purposes such as bypassing faulty routers, dropouts and speed loss.

@SahDude: NBN don't supply a connection box for FTTN. You have FTTC or FTTP.

Paraphrasing part of what I posted here.

Belong's bottom tier $55 a month plan offers 30mbps download. It is a 50/20 plan that is artificially limited to 30. Most users report getting close to 20mbps upload because most people typically upload a lot less than download. 12 month contract. Price increases to $60 if you do not renew for another 12 months.

If you are set on going with SpinTel, at least consider the 6 month promotional discount offers I linked above. Tangerine Telecom also have similar promotional pricing and offer a 14 day "risk free trial". Both of them also have a referral system.

    • Thanks, wasn't aware of the price increase for Belong

    • They do manage to somewhat cap it, I'm usually around the mid 20,max low 30's, line speed capable of going to 46. Bit of a lag when 2 people watch Netflix but is sufficient enough

  • belong… you get referral too $20

The popular higher quality ISP's at the moment would be Aussie Broadband, Launtel, Superloop and Future Broadband.

They all have different plans. Future Broadband are good and have been rock solid for the couple of years I've been with them. Static IP, data banking, pay in advance discount, referral discount and always good speed and stability.

I also dealt with Aussie and Superloop and I can't fault their networks so IMO you really can't go wrong with any of these.

  • Belong hands down as they are budget provider of Telstra's. Can't beat $55/m for a resold 50/20 product at 30/20 speed on 12 months contract. No issues whatsoever, for $60 price tag, you'd be seeing so many 25/5 plans, where Belong comes in this price range is better. Also don't forget the referral, you get $20 off your first bill, so that's $35 first month :)

    • Do they offer any month to month contracts? My lease is only for 3mths so I won't be able to sign up for a 6mth plan sadly

      • yes they do for $60. and have to buy their router.

      • Yes they do, unfortunately it will be $60/m on month to month but then you have to pay for their modem upfront. You can still get $20 off first month if you used the referral though. $60 for the plan, and additional $60 for modem so $120 first month subtract $20 referral which only bring down to $100/m first month and yes it is costly.

I wouldn't go ahead with Belong this way, if I were you, go to Spintel they are month to month if you select "Just NBN", it will be $64.95/m unfortunately.

      • mates. $59/month for 25/5

    • How do you renew belong 12 month contract? Via phone or online? Thanks

      • Online, log in and click on manage service cards (https://www.belong.com.au/account/manage-service) then select the 12 months again to renew for another 12 months. EDIT: If you don't see the option of selecting 12 months, then you need to wait next month for it to show up!

        • Thanks.

  • I'm with Aussie Broadband. My experience with them has been absolutely fantastic.
Customer service is superb, and not having any major hiccups unless there is NBN maintenance in my area.

  • tangerine which I moved to from spintel, is better in service probably comparable in price.
    will not go back.
    possibly cheaper even.
