Good Easy Cushy Job That Pays over 85k No Degree No Qualification Just Get in The Door Type Deal

So working life is going great but I always want more so I'm here to ask for advice on any jobs that don't require any degree or qualifications that I can maybe get into that pays more than 85k.. Not even making half that now..

Bonus points if the work is pretty lax labour wise but honestly I'm open to anything (no funny answers) huuurr durrr no drug dealer, hand jobs or other stupid answers for jobs.

I was thinking of getting into mining but I think all those jobs are high skill jobs and I can't drive continuously for too long at least right now because of health fatigue reasons but that will clear up once I put my health in the right direction and stop abusing and over exerting my body for no reason.

So anybody want to chime in with what they do and if it's easy to get into and does not require any barriers to entry like a degree or qualification.. I'm fine with doing short courses maybe if the payout is great but I'm not going back to uni again for 3 - 5 years if the prospects are shaky.

        • It’s prostitution and a disgrace. But you do you hun.

  • Bit of a boring job but you could WFH and do full time stock trading.

    • +3

Thought about that but the risk is too high.

It is basically gambling but with more steps and thinking.

I'm more of a controlled gambler I have a small amount set to some lotto tickets every week and if a family event brings me to some poker machines I might try my hand at it but not that much.

I do like randomly picking stocks and crypto now and then and then checking back to see how I go.

2017-2019 I picked some really good ones mostly obvious tech ones in the gaming space and personal devices space.

But right now I haven't been able to get my mind into it so not really focusing on it right now.

Nvidia has stagnated but they should keep rising same with Intel. Mobile space is all over the place no idea who is winning more but any top 10 mobiles list should give you an idea.

      • +3

Nvidia has most definitely not stagnated…it went from around $200 in November last year and is now currently trading at $543…a 171.5% increase

I would be very wary of touching Intel right now. Missed earnings by quite a bit and they dumped hard just last week…they’ve dropped the ball…can’t even manufacture 7nm chips yet and don’t expect to until 2023.

I’d steer well clear of trading

    • would need atleast a million in capital for that, and make 10% pa or 500k and make 20% for 100k net

      • -2

Not sure about the market now but I netted over 100K with a 30K investment back when the market crashed.

        • +1

Have you been netting 100k every single year?

          • @Sukh: No I said this year because of the crash. Anything to do with next year will require research if you want to make 2x + profits.

  • +5

Set For Life - Just need to chose a random set of number that will be drawn on the day you play….

    • Haha good you remind me I need to put in some numbers in today.

I have about $10-20 worth on autoplay each week maybe I should raise it higher.

      • +22

I have about $10-20 worth on autoplay each week maybe I should raise it higher.

So you’re bad at maths and probability so that rules out actuarial studies.

        • I'm bad at a lot of things

          • @AlienC: I guess you’re somewhat self-aware

      • +16

I have about $10-20 worth on autoplay each week maybe I should raise it higher.

Once in a while, sure lotteries are fun. However, your pay is around 40K (based on your post) and you're spending $40 a week on lottery? That's $2000 a year! You are literally flushing money down the drain.

        • You gotta be in it to win it

          • -4

@AlienC: I hope you win Set for Life!

You must be smart because you got into Information Systems at UNSW! What was your ATAR/UAI? Just round it off to 5 for privacy reasons if you want.

What is your current job? Don't have to mention in great detail.

            Just curious.

You seem to have a lot of self awareness in your post and replies. All the best mate!

    • +11

The odds of winning the lotto jackpot is about the same whether you buy a ticket or not.

  • +4

Try Local Council, if not State or Federal as backup.

Or get a job at a university.

Or get a Harley and join the local chapter. Probably save on tax as well

    • +13

Ha, obviously written by someone who has not worked at a uni, at least not in the last 15 years! I can assure you that a job at a university is not the way to go. Workloads were often high previously (with steadily increasing student numbers), but they've become ludicrous this year (with most casuals and contractors and part timers being fired or not renewed, courses being cut, retrenchments for permanent staff, massively reduced international students, new federal funding formula that means more local students for the same or less money, and the whole sector being specifically excluded from JobKeeper [took the libs 3 goes to get every uni excluded, but they kept at it, because never waste a good crisis] - all of which means more work for fewer people for less money). It's not easy, not cushy, they almost always require a degree, you will be doing at lot of unpaid overtime, there's an extensive formal interview process, there are constant reorganizations, everyone is afraid of losing their jobs, and it's chronically stressful. It's the actually the exact opposite of what the OP is looking for. But hey, why let facts get in the way? … Actually on second thoughts: I encourage OP to apply to a uni, but on the proviso that they journal their experiences here. I will get a good laugh out of it.

      • +10

Also obviously written by someone who has not worked at a Local Council, State or Federal Government department.

When I went for an entry level council role there were 600 applicants (got it). When you go for any State or Federal job they won't even look at your application if you don't have a degree.

As for being easy or cushy, just try and apply… in addition to submitting a tailored resume and cover letter, you need to write a Key Selection Criteria response (5-10 pages) for every job application, or you won't even be considered.

        • -2

Don't believe the misdirection by these shills @AlienC for a lazy person with limited motivation with no risk of job loss nothing beats the public service and higher education.

Perhaps Higher Ed is not an option as it will require further study. Know someone at the moment max face-to-face 20 hours per week max now reduced to half 10 hours per week on full pay due to work related personal issues and now with COVID barely any students - still on full pay and been playing office politics cultivating senior managers for a redundancy. If the redundancy is granted happy days money for nothing.

As for the council a couple of uncles worked there two anecdotes related to your endeavour that stick in my mind:

          1. Don't come back to the depot before 5 minutes before 4:00PM and don't park in the same place every day - move around. We know you do your work in 3 hours but we don't want to get calls from the public. OK?

          2. Every 3 months job task was to empty all the gases from the cylinders. Why? "We don't want them upstairs to think we are not doing any work, and if we don't spend the money it is removed from our budget.

The old days of the state public service pension are gone now, but before being a fireman or even a cleaner after 20 years would get you a pension for life at 85% of final salary indexed.

Don't believe these posters above, covering up the sh*t show that is 'public service' is second nature to them - just look at the Gladys and Dan performances assisted by the bureaucrats.

The Naked Gun - "Nothing to see here!" (1080p) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKnX5wci404

I admire you OP, you are making a rational informed commercial decision for the exchange of your efforts.

If you have read Animal Farm and seen the sausage machine the only rational decision is the Judas Goat

          Where is the honour …

          • +5

@[Deactivated]: The old days of the public service are gone now. Your uncles wouldn't last a day in the PS these days. Everything is tracked. You can't buy a colleague a coffee without filling a gift declaration.

Gladys and Dan are politicians, not public service employees, you're clueless. Your ignorance does not equate to a conspiracy to waste "my tax dollars".

Have you considered Youtube? If you have interesting content people want to hear about, could be a viable option. like Ozzyman

        • +8

All the low-hanging fruit has been picked. There are a million YouTubers and covering everything under the sun. Who would want to subscribe to an unambitious college drop out in western Sydney with no qualifications, chronic health issues, and is apparently not very relatable?

          • +3

@SydStrand: Why so negative? We don't know the OP's entire back story or his skills/attributes. If everyone had such a depressing mindset, there will be no new ideas or dreams for tomorrow. Video is the new type of content anyway, and there's always something to cover.

            • +8

@Flowerbomb: What's depressing is this implication that people can just drop everything to make a living off YouTube. It reminds me of this sobering chart. Even ignoring market saturation, full-time vlogging is a mix of marketability, looks, and lots of content creation, self-promotion, etc., and the OP by his own admission has an aversion to hard work. If everyone had something worth saying, we would all have had newspaper columns before YouTube existed.

Video is the new type of content anyway, and there's always something to cover.

Think of something… 3, 2, 1, it's been covered. Vlogging is a zero sum game because time is finite resource. It's why every YouTuber is fighting for your eyeballs, and every category has a couple of heavyweights with millions of subscribers, a few dozen minnows, and thousands of people literally producing the same unboxing videos into the void with <100 views, because they're buried by Google's algorithm.

          • @SydStrand: I mean I know there's a shitload of unambitious college drop outs in western syd with no quals and health issues?

  • +7

Government job. All our tax money goes to people with these exact attitudes in government cushy jobs for life…and not just $85k but can be considerably more…no wonder our tax rates are some of the highest in the world.

    • +1

      Straya!

    • -2

Honestly considering that along with sales, mining, it and a few others I can't think off right now off the top of my head.

I considered real estate agent but I'm not that great a liar or shit talker as some of the Rea's I have seen in my life.

All I know is medical is out of the question along with many trades like carpentry, plumbing and electrical.

Also can't cook or wait so hospitality is out of the question.

Maybe I should dig up my TAFE diploma or certificate in accounting from 2006 I did as a TVET course back while in high school but no idea if it is still usable these days.. I remember we used MYOB oh fun times I hope they updated the system ash's interface since then.

    • +8

Most government employees have university degrees. The ones who don't joined in the 1980s in the mail room or typing pool and managed to move up before the unskilled jobs disappeared.

You're right about the attitudes (somewhat) and set for life(definitely - getting fired is near on impossible).

You're technically right on 'some of the highest tax rates in the world', but wrong if compared to other developed countries, where we sit on the low end compared to European countries.

    • +3

If it's so cushy and well paid why haven't you applied? Probably because you actually need a degree and skills…

        • +22

Shame your people skills are lacking.

    • +4

Yeh i totally concur with what is being said. If you move to canberra and start off on a base rate 44k a year job, it wont take you long to double that. You wil l be in a more senior role, but no management requirements.

This being said, you need to look, walk, and talk like a respectable human being. If you look like a bag of shit, then dont expect to get far.

    • +2

Yeah. I just left a University job that was tax payer subsidised. $90k for a Security Guard position was pretty good. It was soul destroying but very good money for doing very little. I was basically unsackable too.

      • Unbelievable…just ridiculous what some people get paid in government or government related jobs.

        • +6

A University job is not a "government or government related job". You're absolutely clueless and clearly have an anger problem. Grow up.

          • -2

@field1985: Haha…look just because you've had it easy and some of us are questioning government roles many of which are too highly paid for the very little value they bring to society, you don't need to be angry. It's fact, you'd know if you had a real job/business.

        • +4

Do you have examples of government overpaying compared to the equivalent job in the private sector?

          • -2

@Randolph Duke: Overpaid for what they do. In the private sector you actually have to work. There's actual competition in the private sector, if the company you work for is run poorly and ineffective at what they do, they'll go out of business. Shame that doesn't happen in government, if it did, our taxes would be lower AND we'd have a better functioning society.

            • +3

@SelfMade: So no one works in government? Seems like a complete stretch and lazy stereotype. I’m guessing you’re one of those free market/private always does better subscribers?

    • +2

Feel free to back any of this up with some evidence

  • Become a YouTuber, though, it might be a little slow at first.
Oh yeah, and you're gonna need at least a few hundred thousand views a video, uploading almost daily, in a certain niche to earn the big bucks.

But in all seriousness, mining doesn't seem like such a bad idea if you can sort your health problems out.

    • I have thought about this but I have done a lot of first hand research into it and see tons of channels with loads of good videos but no views and that kind of demotivates me.

But honestly I should try make one just for fun and see how it goes.

Any hot tips or ideas on what makes a lot of money these days on youtube?

I know make up is huge as with anything beauty.

No idea if gaming channels like just based around gameplay and not commentary and personality make any money at all.

      • Certain niches which have a high cpm are, as you said, beauty/makeup stuff and finance related content

  • Maybe I should be a bunnings snag boy or is that too high degree and qualification for me.

    • +10

      It's unpaid volunteers only.

  • +4

I would say work in any position where Union has a strong presence… CFMEU/MUA for example… Plenty of construction job that doesn't involve physical exertion or degree. You just have to look it up or with the right connection.

    • +1

The right connection who accepts brown paper bags.

    • +2

You have to be white for that.

  • +7

Firstly hope you found your cheap black pepper in the end.

Secondly anything in government should have you on a floor wage of 70kish.

Will require more experience to move up higher time is the only way of jumping up the levels (unless you fancy nepotism/have friends in high places)

    • +2

Unfortunately the pepper did not taste good or at least the pepper I was expecting it tasted very diluted and earthy no kick or flavour and I have now like 2kgs of this stuff and I think 500g of cracked pepper.

      Big sigh loss there.

      • +1

Ah the wonders of buying in bulk

  • NSW Gov.

    • Honestly considering it.

      • +4

Do it. If you can get to a department which hasn't been molested yet. You do bugger all and get paid pretty good. My last year i made $100k and worked SFA and in a regional town, that's good easy money for a desk job with no responsibility and all the perks.

PS: No qualifications for the job either.

        • What kind of job exactly and how'd you get into it? Most of those types of jobs seem to be a case of "who you know" to score in the first place.

          • @subywagon:

            department which hasn't been molested.

            in what way?

            • @capslock janitor: Productivity

Big wigs from Sydney trying to change the world.

I was speaking to a well versed Public Servant the other and Education is still pretty prehistoric and Health as well.

              • @askme69: The agencies in the education cluster went through major restructures earlier this year, I wouldn’t say they haven’t been molested.

Lazy people have been effectively put on notice to pull their weight or get out.

          • +1

@subywagon: I was lucky, i was a temp through a hire agency for 3 months. Then they decided to employee 3 people. I got an interview and was interviewed by people i worked with (2) and another who came from Sydney (who knew the other 2).

The who you know still does play a little role, probably not as much in the BIG Smoke.

        • +3

Train Driver - they train you with pay + I hear they make 100k + with OT or go work for the NBN (while it lasts).

    • +1

NBN work should continue. LNP put their superior over Labor NBN in. Now they are going to implement the inferior Labor Plan so that we move away from 3rd World Internet speeds.

    • -1

thing about train driving is im scared of the 10% time when im exhausted or just too tired to drive but you still force yourself too main reason I dont do anything medical or electrical because 90% of the time things will be ok but i have tendency to push myself to do things past my limit so stuff that could endanger lives or myself I personally opt out of because of the 10% chance

couldnt live with myself if somebody died because of my negligence even if it paid well

      net benefit effect needed

    • What if someone walks infront of the train whilst you're driving…life over.

    • +5

      Station staff 80k
      Guard 100k
      Driver 120k

      Minimum.

      • Unbelievable…

      • +1 Definitely consider Sydney Trains.

Even going into station staff (which meets pretty much all of your criteria) can lead to management roles that are even cushier. Also has the benefit of possibly a transfer to a station close to home.

Great entry into a gov job with plenty of movement into office jobs with important sounding titles as well.

Also basically impossible to get fired unless you screw up insanely.

  • +3

After reading your posts I think you have a future in Reality TV. With any luck you're a bit odd looking to seal the deal.

  • Fire Brigade - no quals needed & they're always looking for people with a diverse background. Pay is more than $85k per year after a couple of years.

    • Would require too much manual labour for OP

  • +21

whatever you chose to do… i pity the fool you expect to pay you. your motivation is questionable… and your skills are lacking. i wouldn't want you as a workmate either… (your supposed to help make the company money and in return… make yours. not make money at the company's and workers expense)… make yourself knowledgeable and needed.

    • +6

You're describing 90% of the population

      • +6

90% of the population isn't expecting to get a job with above-average pay without any form of qualifications.

        • Well ok you got me on the qualifications part. 90% of the population wants a job with higher than average pay with a qualification that the government pays for.

  • +5

Government job? My neighbour works for QLD government (I know there are many branches from health to roads as well as roles within them) as communication adviser or something and she’s on around 100k a year. She is supposed to be working from home but I always see her gardening almost all day every day. She used to go to work every day before covid, so she must be enjoying this remote working environment.

  • +4

I know a few people under 30 years of age on $80-100k pa govt jobs that technically don't require any qualifications, and who got the job with only 2-3 years full-time job experience elsewhere. Apparently they're generally low stress too. They also only work 35-40 hours a week. Lucky bastards.

    • +1

Government jobs are like that all across the world. Nothing new just for Australia except for the extraordinary pay rates

  • +4

OP didn't specifiy how long he wants to work

Join the APS I would go for any APS 3 or APS 4 role at any agency. If they offer overtime you will eventually make your target amount. You will also eventually Apply for higher positions with experience which will help you get closer to your goal.

The starting wage at APS 3 should be more than what you make currently so it's a start.

    • +1

Good luck getting anything in the public service without a degree these days, let alone since COVID, with gov jobs becoming highly sought after for their security. The number of job applications and the qualifications required have skyrocketed.

      • When I got in there was a chef, a Qantas crew member, a salesman, a guy who tought English in Japan and a couple of people still studying. That was 4 years ago.

        • So they weren't actually APS employees, they were agency contractors? Huge difference…

          • @field1985: No we all started as non ongoing and eventually all offered ongoing
