You look like a rep to me…

Also, if you understood the dynamics of how hosting works, you'd have bought 2 by now ! rofl

You must be mad, reps don't use crazy talk like that!

"You'll never pay full price again!"

      • hahahah

  • The basic Linux VPS starts from $7.49/month… Seems like a good deal.

    • Yes, but the highlight is the control panel is basically FREE, to give you folks an idea, compare this offer with other firms here and you'll see what I mean, everyone charges your for cPanel + $15/mth…, the minimum i have paid for hosting with cPanel is $20/mth($5 VPS + $15/mth external license).

Yeah. It's actually uncommon for discount to apply to 3rd party software as well. USD$9.99/month for a cPanel VPS license — that's everyday price. However it appears 75% off also applies to that (recurring discount), which is awesome.

Not sure whether it is a WHMCS configuration issue, i.e. pricing error. They would be selling below cost, as license is resold from cPanel.

Also note that Turnkey Internet is a large New York based hosting company so it's not your average reseller or small provider with one or two cages.

    • Def. below cost !!!, BUT WHY…, POR QUI ??? lol

  • 100% uptime? That's a really big call there, especially when there are things outside this companies control.

Don't think I've ever seen any hosting company claim 100%. Most go to 99.99%.

It says "100% Network Uptime Guarantee" which is different from "100% uptime".

      • It applies only to network connectivity.
      • It usually comes with fine prints where it exclude certain events.
      • It usually also comes with SLA, where in the situation the 100% network uptime is not achieved, they'll refund you a fixed percentage of monthly bill. Something like 5% of monthly bill back if we miss that 0.01%.
  • Ordered. Have been looking for cheap VPS for a while, decent specs, monthly payment options, etc. Thanks!

    • What might one use a VPS like this for?

      • I'll be using it to host my own blog + professional resume + apps + files. I could use shared hosting but this has many advantages, dedicated resources, full control over the OS, etc. It's like having your own PC sitting in the states that you can connect to.

Also allows you to access US only services like Hulu, Pandora and Google Music. I have to bone up on my VPN/Proxy skillz again ;)

I've had a play around with it this morning, it's pretty damn fast and easy to setup. Just have to wait for my domain resolution to propogate.

        • Excuse me Nkerkin, what did you put in for hostname (does it need to be a dns and if so do you know where you can get one for free?

  • Awesome deal I have been looking for a decent vps to host my php based image store. Thx for the heads up

  • The Netvirtue deal has hosting with cPanel for a lot cheaper than this

The NetVirtue deal was mostly shared hosting. Their VPS has sold out and they start at $39.95 without cPanel. They are in Australia though whereas Turnkey Internet is in NYC.

  • Their SEO hosting package is pretty decent too… $50 a month for 60 IPs

  • Wow - this whole conversation proves to me how behind I am in my tech lingo.

Question: is this package something you would rather recommend someone for professional/business needs or are folks using this also for their private computing needs? Or do you think there are cheap (or even free) alternatives out there, if you do not depend on 100% up time etc?

(I appreciate every answer. I could probably also google for answers but I've learned a lot over the years within the ozbargain community. Thanks, by the way!)

    • I'll say both, although these days you can get a virtual private server in the States for a lot less — on lower spec'ed servers but they are not bad depending on what you use it for. With Turnkey Internet though I think they are good enough for professional/business needs, which I can't say to many cheap VPS providers.

  • I am no guru in this area (I do work in IT, and have coded sites before..), seems like a great deal..
Also pay upfront for a year and get a further 3 months free.. so really this is an extra 25% from the original 75% off…

So for $US90 you get a hosted platform for a year.. seems sweet. (linux cent os + cpanel + license)

    Question..
    1. For host type I selected "Operating System: Centos 5.x cPanel 64bit", if it already includes "cPanel", why do I need to then pay further "9.99" per month for a license? (this is before the 75% discount, then the 25% discount)

    Thanks
    Sam

      Possibly pre-installed WITHOUT the license.

  • Pardon the spam but I had to put this up

  • sorry for the late question, how much low level control do you have on a vps? can you install linux on a fully encrypted disk?

    • Not with OpenVZ where you don't have full control of the kernel.
