Can you show us a better price?

the normal retail price is actually $100 more.

rookie mistake, making an insult as the first post. It never ends well

      • YEAH! i've so noticed that!

    • hahahahaha thank you for the laugh.

  • Would be a bargain if its the 100hz telly.

  • +2

It's a bargain because it's cheap and it's back in stock.

  • i think it's a good idea that it was posted! some people dont check the forums. but yeah prob would be logical to post in forum

thanks poster man guy friend cuz :D

  • Clive Anthony have in stock as well.

Had for last 2 weeks. Awesome TV for the price, image quality compares well to my 55" LED Samsung!

  • That's hell cheap. Great deal.

  • correct me if im wrong. but dont these use a samsung panel?

    • I thought they were LG

    • LG

    • Samsung.

    • +1

When I had a look at them at the last sale, they were marked as an IPS panel, and apparently (from sales guy) that means it's a Panasonic, just to confuse people more :)

      • +1

Lol, but the sales people at JB knows the least out of everyone.. IPS is the type of panel (in-plane switching)

Whirlpool forums agree it is a LG 'IPS' panel, but they look damn nice for the price:

… Then you have pretty shallow friends

Its a TV, it doesn't define you.

        • +25

I wouldn't want friends to think I was cheap!!

You're on OzBargain Rockefeller, that ship has already sailed! :p

        • +4

          I feel sad for you.

        • +7

lol exactly why do you come on here? this site is about getting more for less. which is the definition of value. you're a bit silly. and you think a TV stipulates your financial stability/status.

    • samsung..it reminded me of its glory and ..

I got one for $390 :) very good for the price

  • Missed out on the last one, and now it's back.
Very very tempting to get this.

    • Don't worry, there are more 42" LCDs out there that is under $400 if you missed this one.

I've had one for over a year and it's brilliant for the price. Soniq TV's are basically re-badged older model Samsung and LG but in a different case made for Soniq. Yes, they're Chinese made and Soniq had a not so good reputation in the early days but they have improved quality control over the last 3 years and the current units are very good.

I'd have no problem getting another Soniq.

    • That goes for me too. I have a 32" for $299 some months ago.

  • +5

I've been using this tv for the last few months and i've had no problems, the qualities great and i highly recommend it

  • Couple of queries to those who have one
    - how are the viewing angles?
    - is it capable of 1:1 pixel mapping (without overscan) over HDMI or VGA?
    - when turned on at the socket does it require you to use the remote to turn on the screen, or remember the last power state?
    Thanks

I think someone at Whirlpool already confirmed that there is no overscan issue with the 42", unlike the 32". The 32" can be fixed by the service menu. FYI, the service menu for the 42" is SOURCE > 2580.

      • +1

Yup was me. No overscan issue at all :)

  • I bought a 32" FHD Soniq LCD earlier this year. The picture quality was far better than expected. No problems with the quality. Just a bit thicker and heavier than other models. Also changing channels can be a nuisance with the lag effect.

  • Going to pop down to jb-hi tomorrow and pickup one for the father for xmas could someone supply me with the dimensions for this and if possible spec info cant seem to find a sonic web site anywhere. ty

    • Dunno the dimensions of the box exactly but it fits into a Getz nicely with both back seats folded down. Should be no problems if you drive a hatch. Could be a problem if you try to fit into a sedan's boot.

User manual says unit dimension is 1280(L)x190(W)x770(H)mm and weighs 20.4kgs gross.

      • I drove home an 42" with Regular mid size car.

even if it doesn't fit the back seat, lower the right passenger seat & it should fit?

        • Not sure mate. I am lucky as a 42" is the largest LCD my Getz can comfortably carry with no rear passengers. My next up is a 60" and I probably need to rent a trailer!

  • Sounds like a wicked deal

  • For anyone that managed to get it for $450 with extended warranty could you please post receipt pleaseeeee I couldnt get them to budge!

    • Tell them that you are only happy to pay for the extended warranty up to $450.
In 4 yrs time, the tv's worth will be close to nothing.
Last year, the price was was close to $600. $200 reduced after 1 yr.

  • Thanks for the info guys - much appreciated.
Final question for owners - looking at the unit are there visible screws around the back to remove the bezel - I'm thinking of this for a visual pinball project :)

  • Hoping to pick one up tmr!!!

  • something that bothered with this one when i read around i stumbled onto a number of posts that say alot of consoles and games (xbox mostly) have issues with this particular tv (doesnt support pal-60 or something?)

Anyone know if thats true or old news?

    • no problem on xbox so far

    • Have used xbox fine on it, all sorts of games and works fine.
      I like this tv a lot :)

  • I bought this from Merrylands after my old 46" went on the blink last week - talk about good timing! They would not budge on the extended warranty but I purchased 4yr insurance for the assurance and the fact that it will probably die after a few years. Great TV set and one of the cheapest in Oz.

  • whats the response time (ms) of this? does it play MKV (like the DSE one says it does?)

    • Sorry, could not find any info on this in the manual or spec sheet. RT is not listed and because I haven't connected a game console up to it yet I cannot comment. MKV - same story, not documented and untested but my guess is that it is not supported.
