    I don't mind these pre-popped popcorn bags from time to time, but I do wonder why more people don't bother with buying popcorn kernels and popping them on the stove.

    He uses a metal bowl in that video. I just use a regular pot, put a little bit of oil in, popcorn kernals, cover the pot with foil and poke some holes, let it pop on the stove starting from cold on low-medium heat. Move the pot around a bit, as it pops. I prefer to use foil, with holes, rather than a pot lid. Pot lids seem to trap too much steam in and it doesn't yield as crispy a popcorn. YMMV.

    You can flavour it according to your liking. I usually just go with salt and/or cayenne pepper. In the video, he mentions using Furikake, which you can get from Woolworths. I've tried that too, and it's great.

    You can get popping corn kernels for a couple dollars at the supermarket, and it will make several serves. Versus pre-popped bags, it's far cheaper. The pre-popped bag have their place for convenience and flavour combos that are too hard to emulate yourself. But for something like regular salt or trying your own thing, it's honestly worth giving a go yourself.

      Just wondering if you’ve tried the Cobs flavours and been successful reproducing their flavours? Lightly Salted, slightly sweet is our favourite and we haven’t been able to reproduce it. Would be much cheaper if we could make our own.

      • Yeah, I've tried most of Cobs and I do enjoy them myself. As I said, they're good for occassional convenience and for any flavours you really like but can't replicate yourself. I didn't really like the salt/sweet one though, so it's probably not something I'd try to season myself at home.

        Again, I mentioned, for something like regular salt, it's really easy to DIY it. And the other thing about DIY is you can really have fun with different flavours at home (e.g., the Furikake example, which pretty random, but awesome on popcorn if you like that nori-flavour).

      • Throw some sugar and salt in with the kernels… need to look up kettle corn(?) For exact measurements.

        I bought wine flavacol and make cinema style buttered popcorn. Only need a teaspoon each time so it'll last.

      Well, they must sweeten and salt it more than we would like,…but it is a tasty brand of popcorn.

      • Yeah, I don't disagree. I mentioned above, they're good for convenience and being able to get flavours you just can't DIY right at home.

        But I just thought I'd raise, popping your own popcorn is ridiculously cheap and easy. And it opens up other opportunities for fun flavours at home.

      It's purely the time IMO. We used to do it regularly when I was a kid and I'll still do it camping but Cobs is good quality so the time to open a packet compared to popping your own and the cleanup afterwards, there's no comparison.

      Popcorn is so easy to make at home. I started making popcorn at home when we restriction started a few months ago in VIC. Veey satisfying seeing them popped.

      Yes you are not wrong. I ordered 4 last time and got a box the same bloody size as the one they send the damn toilet paper in. I am getting sick of cutting up there damn boxes. The recycling bin isn't big enough…

          I would have thought it would be a tight squeeze, but then again people do need to be close to each other to do that!

    • I wish there a way to request for separate orders to be bundled together if possible..even if that means waiting a little longer for another item to come in stock.

    • I agree, I have been begging them to get other flavours in Coles NSW. Went to Adelaide a couple of years ago and they have all sorts of flavour. My personal fav is Sweet and Salty. Can't find that in NSW

    3/4 cup popcorn kernels
    3 tablespoons unsalted butter

    3/4 teaspoon salt
