Has changed in my cart since yesterday. Looks like they've dropped the price of the console and got rid of the $408 deal when bundled with Minecraft. Good for those that don't really want Minecraft!

Strange how the switch hasn't really dropped in price much since launch. Maybe it will once they launch their next gen console (if that is coming soon?)

    • Isn't it the same for every (successful) Nintendo console? and everytime we get surprised 😃
I remember same thing happened to N64, Gameboy, DS, Wii, 3DS. Wii U and GameCube dropped in price because they weren't successful…

You don't remember the 3DS price drop and Ambassador programme? Was great for taking advantage of the Good Guys 120% price guarantee.

Ah yes my bad, but after that it stayed pretty stable until end of life.

@OpayuOnam: Nah, you said 'successful'. 3DS wasn't successful at launch and RRP was discounted after disappointing sales. You were correct.

The wii was exceptionally successful in the USA and maintained its price for a very, very long time. There were long queues for months to get one. They were accused of deliberate shortages to create hype.

The gameboy was very successful and didn't really get discounted. It launched at $149 including a game and more accessories. They later sold a simpler package without the $40 game or cable at $99 but never really got much cheaper than that for years. They kept the hype with different colours, the pocket, GBC. They were all successful. The DS disappointed and was discounted. The micro failed miserably and was discounted.

@[Deactivated]: I just forgot about the initial release issues of 3DS, I only remember the successful years towards the end of life cycle.
But then again there was so many 3ds/2ds consoles which was hard to keep track.
In terms of console variety switch has to be one of the best recent ones. We have "only" had 3 variants:
              1. OG Switch
              2. Switch Lite
              3. Switch Better Battery

I guess having the joycons separate allowed them to mess around with joycon colours and leave the console as is. I mean if it is not broken why fix it? I actually don't mind the Switch as is right now, it seems like developers are able to squeeze the last bit of performance out of it. Witcher 3, Ori, Doom and many more. I cannot believe these games are playable on a handheld with the quality they offer!
Adding a switch pro or whatever to the mix is just going to fragment the market, and nintendo has not been very successful with pro versions. IIRC most of their "pro" ventures didn't really do much and only delivered marginal performance to some games. Most devs preferred to go for mass market appeal.
The games that would benefit from a switch pro, would be all those with dynamic scaling.

    • There's going to be a 2021 version which will support 4k. Going to wait for that.

any details on when this might be next year? (Q1, 2, 3, 4?)

        • +1

Some are guessing Monster Hunter Rise launch (March) but there's nothing official on a new model.

      • Switch Pro?

Most game consoles have crept up closer to RRP while people have been in iso. Demand has skyrocketed.

It will be awhile before we see 2018 sale prices arond the $340 mark

Remembering previous sale prices, just can’t bring myself to buy for over $299.

Well done OzBargainer! Where did you find it for $299?

      • +3

This is the deal I remember that prevents me buying one for 1¢ more. ☹️

@chymb: Getting a "bargain" aside, i honestly don't believe this console is worth more than $300 (and i'm a massive nintendo fan) .. on top of that i think next year there will be a new version of the switch with 4k (using nvidia's dlss or whatever is in the shield for upscaling) .. its just a hunch but that's the only way i can see a portable device like a switch hit those resolutions…

It is still the most played console in my house hold .. its mainly on the tv for this reason hehe

I didn't see it as "unwanted Minecraft", I saw it as "a $27 trade voucher at CeX". =P

  • Anyone know if there is likely to be a switch lite deal again? I missed the one from last night 😩

  • should check marketplace, prices are quite competitive there

  • 10 dollars more off with the Amazon app using code APPONLY10 at checkout…

used this with my 28 degree mastercard price protection to get 80 bux cash bac, nice!

    • How did you get the cash back, ca n you share some more details?

      • have you got a 28 degree mastercard and enabled price protection?
        if so
take a screenshot of the lower price you want to match, (just incase they ask for proof.)
        log in
select the insurance link from the menu up the top,
        select credit card
select price protection claim from the drop down menu
then you fill in all your details and submit.

this will be my first one, but seems simple enough.

        • I do have the 28 degree mastercard but never looked at price protection, will check it out thanks.

  • is there likely to be a better deal before christmas?

    • maybe black friday?, but this is pretty good

      no 28 degree master card?

      • nope, no credit card at all

        • i have my 28 degree mastercard for emergencies and price protection insurance only, if i buy something on it, i transfer money to it immediately.

          its a tool for me.

dont use it as a credit card - and buy things you cant afford and its a fantastic deal. specially good for large white goods etc.
