I know that Skyrim is out now but for this price, its not bad. Its still a good game ^_^

You will have to mod it extensively to get the most enjoyment out of this game. Played at stock, the scaled levelling simply breaks the game (i.e. Monsters get harder and harder to kill the more you level up your character)
Well of course they do, the game would be pretty easy if the enemies didn't get harder. If you're struggling though, it's because you haven't created a balanced character. I personally found the higher levels a breeze, nothing could do serious damage to me.
The levelling system in Oblivion took away a lot of the feeling of achievement though. You'd never run into an enemy you couldn't kill (unless you had done something really dumb with your character). I like that with Skyrim you can run into very difficult enemies that you have to come back to later. In saying that, it is a little odd that a sluggish woolly mammoth is harder to kill than a giant, fire-breathing, flying dragon.
That's exactly what turned me off playing this game. Though I hear Skyrim doesn't use that leveling system so I'll probably just get that… eventually.
It does still use it - but it is waaaay toned down.
Play morrowind if you dont want scaled levelling :P
Argh! Very, very tempted, but I think I'll just wait for Skyrim. Already played through the original quest in Oblivion - would only be getting this for the expansion packs, but can't really see myself pouring another 30-40 hours just for that…
with all the mods out there, you can easily play for another 100 hours. or maybe thats just me getting addicted to this game.
Skyrim's already out… if you're waiting for a mad sale then what better way to while away the time with 40 hours of Oblivion! :D
I'm in the same boat, already played main quest of Oblivion, but will pick this up for the expansions.
I remember trying this when it first came out and I just couldn't get into it, found it boring… run from one end of town to another isn't fun, was just too open for me, not any clear objectives too many side quests, story not flowing, tedious etc. Maybe I should give it another go as it seems to get good reviews. But I guess I couldn't get into fallout either.. maybe Battlefield is more my style of game heh (although I do play/finish Final Fantasy games)
I felt similar. I like other RPGs, like ME1/2 and fallout 3, but had difficulty with Oblivion. I think I'm giong to have to give it another go.
I think Dungeon Siege would be more your type of game. Skyrim and Oblivion is more like Grand Theft Auto, except with magic and first person view.
Sure, Skyrim is out, but unless you have an absolute tank of a PC you'll probably get better value out of Oblivion anyway.
So far I haven't come across anything in Skyrim which matches the sheer epicness of Oblivion (especially the concept of Oblivion itself - the dragons on Skyrim are a total anticlimax) and the other big benefit is Oblivion actually feels like it's made for PC. Skyrim is an unnecessarily cumbersome turd thanks to an interface which has clearly been designed with consoles in mind first and PC as an afterthought.
Rushed/poor PC ports are becoming all too common. I agree buy this as you will be able to play it in high quality settings and down the track if you still want Skyrim it will be cheaper and maybe you can buy a Radeon 7000 series card by that time to play it on top settings.
I don't think Skyrim needs a tank, you just need to pick your parts right. I sank $280 into a 2 year old machine, new MSI GTX560Ti HAWK (the best bang for buck NVIDIA card option going), and it's running on Ultra with no slowdowns.
That said, the interface is pretty crap. Especially if you, like me, plan on playing another Bethesda game in tandem (New Vegas). "A" takes all items AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!
Skyrim does have some extra immersion going for it though, the NPC's feel more like people than Oblivions robots, and there is some definite wow factor when looking around the world (not that there wasn't in Oblivion).
At the end of the day, Oblivion is an awesome game, I poured 100s of hours into it, and finished every quest available to me (including Knights of the Nine), except the last two Oblivion gates. So I just purchased on Steam so I can finish the main quest finally (couldn't find the disc one the weekend when I was trying to finish before Skyrim), and now I'll have another expansion to playthrough as well.
If you haven't played it, it comes highly recommended.
Agree, my girlfriends PC runs this game on Ultra at 1920 x 1080, and that's 3 years old except for the 560Ti (can be had for $200-$250ish).
If you want to put stress on your PC, try running games like Metro 2033 or Battlefield 3.
The UI could definitely be more PC friendly but it is definitely better than Oblivion.

You should gift it to any of your UK or European friends though, if you have any. It's more expensive after currency exchange, in Europe.
