You never know when/if a Mario game will go on sale again so… probably not a bad option.

    • +7

      Presumably tomorrow, on Prime Day

  • +3

    bought 2, thanks!

    • +5

why I got a down vote for saying thanks to OP after bought two games? Hopefully Prime days wont make me cry…

      • Probably because people thought you bought 2 copies = greedy, which is still a pretty unfair judgement.

    • +1

If you did, I hope you didn't buy from Amazon AU directly. Because Catch sells them cheaper on Aamzon, if you'd click the [(New) from $60.00] banner on the right. Catch is called "Roger Store Au" on Amazon.

      • It is too late. Thanks for the info though. Will try next time.

  • +15

Eh i’d wait 12 hrs until prime day starts. This was the price since last week at least.

  • +27

I love my Switch but it still annoys me that years-old games are considered 'on sale' at AUD 62.

    • +10

Nintendo make the best games for the system, and they remain that way. If Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart and Breath of the Wild are still better than anything that's been released in the years since and still desirable to people, why would they discount them just because they're old?

      • +2

They are not following the trend. Milking customers on old games

        • Super Mario 3D All Stars doesn't seem to worth $64. I had one played couple of minutes then stopped.

          • @OhNoUShiz: What is the price of entry to play the classics in HD? Mario Galaxy in HD is worth $64 if you have never played it. One of the greatest games of ALL time.

            • @RocketSwitch: Yeah, Mario Galaxy is the one of the three games i have briefly played on the switch. Yeah, i have never played Mario Galaxy in its past console. I will probably give it another go. haha

            • @RocketSwitch: Super Mario Galaxy 2 is even better. I wish it was included in the collection.

        • +2

Customers support it, it keeps selling at this price point, so why wouldn't they "milk" customers? Business always had the one purpose of ALL time, that is to profit and make sure shareholders are happy. End of story.

    • +3

I dunno, I've got like 10 stars left to collect in Galaxy and I've easily gotten my money's worth. It's a great port, looks awesome on the switch.

Getting Sunshine and 64 included as well is the icing on the cake.

    • I don't mind the high RRP considering the second-hand price I can sell it on for is around 60-70% of the new price.

    • +3

Nintendo games a lot more 'timeless' than other developers IMO. I'd happily pick up and play a 5 year old Nintendo game.

    • +6

'Their games are good' is not a great argument. God of War (PS4) is widely considered one of the greatest games ever made. I picked it up last year for $18. Same with Witcher 3 (which is a hell of a lot more expensive on Switch btw). Don't take my word for it, check the reviews.

CaptainHoltIsDad made a great point about Nintendo's resale value though. True, you can get a lot of that money back. I sold Breath of the Wild for $50 just last month.

      • +3

I'd argue Nintendo games have a broader appeal than God of War or Witcher 3 generally speaking.

Witcher 3 is one of my favourite games ever, but I can see more people wanting to play Mario Kart or Odyssey years after release. Another factor is that the moment-to-moment gameplay in Nintendo games is generally more fun than that in cinematic experiences like Witcher, giving them a more "timeless" feel.

It's just a different business strategy. Sony takes the loss leader-like approach of enticing new gamers into their ecosystem with cheap first party games. Nintendo looks to extract more margin from those titles. May have to do with Sony's competition with Microsoft being different to Nintendo's. Might be that Sony knows they can make more from other titles or DLC or online subscriptions. Might just be different corporate strategy.

  • +11

Got Odyssey two years ago for $48 from Amazon AU. I'm genuinely surprised at how high all of Nintendo's first-party games have stayed for the past year especially.

    • +4

Why are you surprised, it's happened forever?

Nintendo's 1st part titles always sell strong and have no reason to be mass discounted.

      • I know that, I meant more that I'm still surprised there haven't been more scattered sales from Amazon AU since, given we've generally seen better prices and sales this generation for Nintendo first-party games than the ones before it.

    • Haven’t you seen the new RRP for all PS5 games? Get them before Nintendo changes its mind and raises all its RRP.

      • +1

The difference here is that those PS5 games will be on sale or Platinum next year. Contrary to popular opinion, price doesn't have to equal quality as there are some amazing, classic games on PS that are dirt cheap. Nintendo keeps them high cause they can get away with it - and people seem to love them for it.

        Switch owner here.

        • 3DS does have games similarly priced like the PS Platinum or Hits etc after how millions of copies sold. I think Zelda Ocarina of Time is one of them?

    • $48 from 2 years ago.

      I feel bad now…

  • Is this game very good / short or long playthrough?
The Legend of Zelda Links Awakening

    • If you have never played this before and enjoy 2D Zelda, this is amazing.

      But, it is short.

      It's confusing without a walkthrough.

      It's more worth $49.

      • Thanks!!

      • +2

It’s not that confusing. The only part I got stuck at was when you had to find the rooster. I have played a lot of other Zelda games though so if it’s your first it might be harder

    • +4

It’s ‘short’ for a Zelda game, but that means you’re looking at about 20 hours of gameplay rather than 40-100.

      • +2

Yeah, 20 hours is stretching it, I finished it and on my Switch said more than 10 hours. So under 15 hours is about right.

  • +1

How are people finding Super Mario All Stars? Got so much love for those games, but playing them again has made me realise that Odyssey is king.

    • I was having a lot of fun with Sunshine. However,i had to quit the game because of the hard secret levels 😞😞

      • Yeah sunshine is the one I’ve played the least in the past and I still couldn’t quite get into it this time. 64 is a classic and Galaxy is amazing. But Odyssey just improves on them all so much.

    • 64 is awesome, it’s better in some regards than even Odyssey imo. Have yet to try Sunshine. Galaxy is great too, I kind of like the Wii controller a bit more but it’s still pretty good. Not a fan of handheld mode, moving your hand off the controls to touch the screen doesn’t work well for me

      • +1

How is 64 better than Odyssey in some ways? Genuinely curious, because despite going into it with an open mind in this collection, all I can see are the advancements it's lacking and jankiness that came with being one of the first 3D console games. I get its importance and value and still find it (mostly) fun to play, but it's no Odyssey.

        • I feel 64 difficultly is spot on. It’s not frustrating (like Sunshine) but challenging. When you die you realise what you did wrong and you try again improving in moving and controlling Mario. I felt Odyssey was too easy most of the time.
Collecting stars feel more enjoyable which you have to build up to get. Moons are just littered everywhere and don’t feel the same.
I also think 64 has more interesting secrets hidden in the worlds.
It could also be a bit of nostalgia but I only played it a couple of years ago on the Wii U. Or maybe you just appreciate it the more you play it

          • +2

@FireRunner: I do agree that moons at times feel a bit 'jittered everywhere'.

    • I've never played Sunshine and Galaxy, so I'm happy to be able to finally play them. I loved 64 growing up, but if you don't have the nostalgia attached to it, I can definitely understand if people don't enjoy it as much. It's quite janky because of the camera controls among other things. I kinda wish they would remake it instead. Definitely appreciate Odyssey a lot more after playing these three games.

      • I do have the nostalgia with 64 100% that was the only game I had on my nintendo 64 as a kid for like 6 months and I got 120 stars like 5 times on that bad boy. It's still a masterpiece, but the flow of Odyssey's movement is just incredible.

  • Amazon offered me free same day delivery for Paper Mario but then it disappeared! Boo

  • +1

All Stars sounds like a pretty lazy cash grab by Nintendo. No remastering at all. You can play Mario Galaxy in HD on PC using a Wii emulator and the switch joycons. A little fiddly to setup (not too hard with a couple YouTube vids), but works perfectly once it is.

    • You can play Mario Galaxy in HD on PC using a Wii emulator

      Erm isn’t that pirating?
Not debating morals but hardly fair to say Blurays are lazy cash grabs since we can pirate movies for free..

      • I actually own the original Wii version of Mario Galaxy 1&2, so for me personally it's not piracy. If you re-released a 24 year old movie (Mario64), or even a 13 year old movie (Mario Galaxy) on Blu-ray, with zero remastering, additions or bonus content, at the same price of current new releases; then yes I'd definitely also call that a lazy cash grab.

        • +1

It’s still piracy. You are entitled to play on the Wii using the disc you purchased, that’s not a license to play in any other format.

If you’re comfortable with it though then I don’t think anyone will care.

          • +1

@Smigit: Pirates will always look for technicalities that they've heard elsewhere.

Just embrace you're a pirate or keep it to yourself. The incorrect legal justifications get a bit tiring

          • @Smigit: From my understanding emulators are legal (or at least a grey area) if you backup your own games. It’s entirely possible to backup your Wii games and use them with an emulator. If you downloaded someone else’s copy, even if you own a copy, that’s illegal as is sharing your own copies with other people.

            • +1

@FireRunner: You can't even back up your own copies legally in Australia.

              • @Faro: You’re correct, thought it was legal. Guess it depends on what country you’re in

    • No remastering at all.

Updating the UI, textures, and some video playback isn't exactly world shattering. But it does make it factually wrong to claim that there was "no remastering at all".

  • P/s: Meant to reply to kamper.

  • Anyone think we'll see bigger discounts for Black Friday?

  • It'd be an instant buy for me if it included Galaxy 2. Still tempted though.

I want the switch joy con controller+Mario party bundle back for $129, it was from big-w. Will this deal be back…?

  • -4

    Ozbargain sponsored by amazon

    • I have to admit the number of Amazon video game deals posted for a bit cheaper than competitors is getting a bit much. I expect to see more as more PS5 and Xbox Series X games are made available

  • Any chance these games will be cheaper tomorrow for Prime Day?

    • +1

Possibly and unlikely to increase. I would wait
