Story:

In 2007 the New South Wales government suddenly scrapped a plan to utilise the water in the disused underground train tunnels beneath Sydney's St James Train Station.

In 2008, chasing rumours of a government coverup and urban legends surrounding the sudden backflip, investigative journalist Natasha Warner led a crew of four into the underground labyrinth.

They went down into the tunnels looking for a story – until the story found them.

This is the film of their harrowing ordeal. With unprecedented access to the recently declassified tapes they shot in the claustrophobic subway tunnels, as well as a series of candid interviews with the survivors, we come face to face with the terrifying truth.

This never before seen footage takes us deep inside the tunnels bringing the darkness to life and capturing the raw fear that threatens to tear the crew apart, leaving each one of them fighting for their lives.

I agree it was a real good horror movie, great to watch a movie where you have no previous knowledge from trailers.

but this has always been free since the first release and i dont know if downloading from torrents are ok on ozbargain (even if it is legal).

Might be more of a forums topic than a bargain because it always free.

I would suggest to donate to them if you really enjoyed/fear it, I would like to see more quality Australian films like this one.

    I'll give it 9/10.

  • +1

Yep, always been free, but definitely worth getting. a good Aussie movie.

  • +2

I saw this on ABC a while back; it's much better than I expected for a low-budget, self-funded film.

  • Sounds good.

  • How do they make money if the movie is free?

    • +2

They released it on DVD and sold of film stills ect, but essentially they don't really make any money.

    • +5

Faking invoices and keeping the grant money.

    • +2

It's the opposite business model to "The producers". Instead of making money from a flop, they lose money from a hit. :)

Jokes aside, I'm sure their collective reputations (actors, crew, director, etc.) were greatly enhanced with this film under their belts, because it is really quite good.

I think this project can be considered a success because it was low cost, so not much money to recoup. I imagine they've at least broken even financially, but they also end up with the additional value derived from an enhanced reputation and resume' (which is very important in the movie business), as well as having tested the uncharted waters of a new business model.

  • "The funds we raise will go toward paying off our talented cast and crew. It is thanks to their understanding, as well as their blood, sweat and tears, that we have been able to forge ahead and not only finish The Tunnel but also put it out for you to watch for free."

Although it's a nice gesture to put out something for free it kinda seems meaningless…

  • I think I saw a post on this here a while ago, never got round to watching it. sounds good

  • +2

Yeah, not really a bargain in the usual sense but a good movie nonetheless. Worth the HD download.

  • +2

Can watch the whole thing on YouTube. It's a great flick

  • there are few other movies that can be watched for free on youtube as well, from different countries as well.

I'll get around to watching this movie after the exams. :)

  • +6

It's not really a bargain (as it's always free), so this might belong in the forums.. but nobody checks the forums.

The creators were experimenting with a new model of movie distribution. Rather than fight the torrent scene like most films, they decided to embrace it and see where that would lead them.
I believe for funding, they were pre-selling individual frames of the film prior to release.
Now they rely on donations, a link is included in the torrent.

    • ok that explains it, thanks

  • Is this the one with Holmsie from Hot tomato?

  • +1

for anyone who is interested, they pated for this movie buy people buying slides from the movie, i think you may still be able to buy them of the movies website

    • +1

Nice. I want to pated (sic) for this movie too, link please >.<

      • Yeah, I bought a frame, it was of nothing though haha.

I have not seen Blair Witch, but is this an Aussie remake?
WTF, the Americans are always remaking successful foreign movies.

    • +4

      ………….
Manic, you do realise your comment makes no sense whatsoever, right?

  • Not a bad flick!

  • +2

Will I shit my pants when I watch this

    • +11

it's not a question of will you, more of what colour will it be?

  • +1

I'm all for Aussie film makers, they come out with some really impressive movies most of the time. I'll definitely give this a go.

  • lol i kept forgetting to watch this… i shall soon

  • I think you are bit late OP , I have watched this almost 20 times by now. It is nice one especially if I have friends at home and wanna show them something scary ..

    • I first watched this in june !!

      • +6

Someone get this man a medal!

  • +2

I'm glad I have some like minded people on here…..every person I talked to about it said something like "Low budget crap"…..which was very disappointing because when I watched it I thought it was excellent, really well done. Good on ya OB'ers, great minds and all that jazz.

  • so is this a fictional movie? or is it actually based on true events?? i cant seem to work it out .. :/

    • they are little misleading in the movie as they are always stressing on the fact that it is completely a true story …

Reality is it is a true concept and most of the things are true but the actual point that ghosts exist in tunnels exist is proved by killings and that's just made up..
Me and my friends had a lot of discussions about the reality and I went on researching about the movie when I found out that the killings never happened . You can also check their website for reference as it says there but in the movie they always try to tell you that it is a completely true story..

Overall ,It is a very nice one , suitable for some occasions and it is one of the movies which will actually scare you .

      • -1

they are little misleading in the movie as they are always stressing on the fact that it is completely a true story …

        Like the bible. :-)

        Time before this gets modded…10..9..8…..

    • To be honest I thought the whole film was based on a true story. I was literally on the edge of my seat all the way through until the "Killer" appeared… Having said that, the issues based on the tunnel were real.

It still was scary as hell though :).

Well you could link to any torrent file and say it's free.

    • +3

no this is one of the few publicly released open source movie .

      • +3

WTF is "open source movie"? They release all the meeting minutes, directors notes, set design plans, wardrobe patterns, musical score, etc? Or does it mean that anyone is welcome to send in a patch for a scene that does not quite work? Would that lead to the movie makers forking to 2 versions after artistic differences?

        • +2

          Funnay

        • +2

it means the actors will get free ice cream sandwiches

      • Yes, but it is just as free and distributable as the newest Hollywood blockbuster.

  • 14000 seeds!!! woooooo

  • Cheers OP! Always on the lookout for good horror flicks. The best I have seen this year have to been High Tension and Martyrs. Those French fellas seem to know what they are doing when it comes to scaring the crap out of a person.

  • I've never downloaded torrents before, and when I clicked on the torrent file I downloaded, the program on my Mac (Opera) gives me this warning:

"Please note that you will share the content you receive with other people who download the same files. Are you sure you want to do this?"

Does this mean others can access my computer if I go ahead? Or only the the movie I download? If the latter, can people only access the movie while I am downloading, or at other times as well?

I read that others can find out who I am as well if I download a torrent file unless I have a software to make me "anonymous". Is that right?

    • +3

don't worry about downloading this torrent since it's supposed to be downloaded this way. But for other torrents Digital Rights Management groups might be monitoring your download

      • Cheers spawnpoint, I'll go ahead to download it tonight.
