How Can I Get a Better Price on Miele Products?

I'm soon to buy a new washing machine/dryer/accessories and am pretty sold on the Miele range of products. At this stage, it's looking like a spend of around $7,500 and would like to buy before the end of the month to avail of the 10 year warranty.

My understanding is that Miele won't discount directly, however I did think about purchasing some gift cards to help reduce the cost.

The Good Guys seems to have a few options of getting 5% discount on their cards - I've got access to the AGL rewards program as well as Suncorp Benefits, however both have limits.

Are there any other options that I've not thought about?

Thanks in advance :)

buy direct from their factory returns/scratch dent, is between 15-30% off. or pair up with an architect or an interior designer we get 25% off.

    • They do have a clearance centre in Brisbane but I've not been yet. Might be worth giving them a call this morning!

I did not now about the discount for architects/interior designers. Will have to put a call out to my friendship network to see if anyone fits those categories!

      Thanks for the info :)

      • While the warehouse will save you $ but don't forget what you find there is pure pot luck. No 10 years warranty there either and at best you're able to get a service/warranty certificate on top to extend it to 5 years. We bought a last generation almost top of the line dryer, RRP was $4.5k ended up $2k delivered. If you have enough Miele products under your name, bugger the warranty, they will look after you.

If buying new/current model/10 years warranty is a must then go get yourself those 10% off David Jones voucher while they exist. It was fun carrying $15k worth of DJ vouchers to pay for some of our stuff…

  • Have you tried Estrading

    • I did check out their website but they just re-direct you to purchase from the Miele website :)

ETA: they redirect for the products I'm looking at.

      • Can yoiu go in store. 10% off on adv at moment.

        • Storewide 10% or whatever promotions do not apply to Agency brands such as Miele and Asko.

          • @JimB: Well on the Estrading ad they were plugging Miele packages.

            • @Melb69: E&S may advertise 10% off Miele and it's a legit discount, however, every other Miele retailer will have the same discount also.

Not sure about Miele specifically, but whenever I’m buying items like this I negotiate with the sales person at Good Guys, Harvey Norman etc. Usually hubby and I narrow down what exactly we want then flat out ask, “what’s the best price you can do?” They usually won’t say he best price straight away. Say they say $1200 for a $1400 product then we’d say $1100. Then they say, they have to talk to the manager to approve it, which I think is just a rouse to make you think you’re getting a good deal and they pretty much always approve some sort of discount. I think this is the standard routine for big box items.

    • We usually negotiate prices on our purchases from HN or GG, however I've been told at Harvey Norman and Good Guys that they won't/can't move on prices as the stock is held my Miele etc.

Oh, that’s interesting. David Jones sometimes does big discounts on Miele, but it’s usually when they are clearing a model, and you might be waiting a long time for what you want to come up. I hope you get a good price for what you’re looking for.

        • Miele sell their stuff via an agency model - the HN/GG/DJ of the world order the items via a Miele portal for you and process the payment on Miele's behalf. Heck if you order Miele stuff from the HN or DJ website it will re-direct you straight to a page with the Miele domain.

  • Miele regularly do packages at fair discount but you typically need to buy 3 appliances (eg dishwasher oven washing machine) at the same time.

Miele do not allow direct discounting of their products by retailers. They get around the provisions of retail price maintenance by appointing their own sales people in retail outlets as agents for Miele. Hence when you buy a Mile item from, for example HN, you will get a Miele sales docket/invoice. In effect you are dealing direct with Miele.
Miele look after their retail outlets pretty well because if you make a purchase from Miele direct they will book the sale (and commission) through your nearest retailer.
One tactic I have used is to acknowledge they cannot discount directly but have them give you a discount off another item you need.

  • My understanding is that Miele won't discount directly

Just like Apple, Miele control the pricing tightly and don't allow discounting. It is what it is.

Other than their sales they have, your only real way is discount gift cards etc.

    • Apple is very different from an Agency brand like Miele/Asko.

The store does not carry Miele products at the back of the store.

If you buy from the store, the store collects your money and then advises Miele who will delivery it to you. This way all retail customers pay the same price.

Stores don't discount Apple much because the margins are so slim. The store makes more money selling you extended warranty or phone case than they would selling you a $2,000 iPhone.

      • If you buy from the store, the store collects your money and then advises Miele who will delivery it to yo

Correct, but that wasn't my point.

Apple is very different from an Agency brand like Miele/Asko.

My point was, they both control the price tightly that doesn't allow discounting.

Stores don't discount Apple much because the margins are so slim

because apple controls the prices so tightly so there is no room to discount.

        • correlation isn’t causation, not matter how “close” it appears

        • Very different

          iPhone 11 128GB White

JB Hifi $1,279 (retail price) https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/apple-iphone-11-128gb-whi…

          Officeworks $1,247 https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/iphone-11-…

Same product. Officeworks chooses to discount and make a smaller margin.

The Miele authorised reseller is not allowed to discount and must sell at Miele's nominated price because the the reseller is merely an agent for Miele.

Apple sets the wholesale price and stores are free to sell it at any price (including a loss if they want to). Miele sets the retail price.

          • @JimB: ok you win. Happy now?

            • @JimmyF: I'm just happy to spread the truth.

          • +1

@JimB: It depends also on how much in the way of rebates a Supplier gets back from Apple on sales. iPhones general have the worst Margin, eg @ 1 to 2% and retailers would make more money out of cigarettes or fuel. I remember a phone a few years back RRP $499, Invoice price inc GST $494.05

Miele hold the stock in their warehouse, and the Retailer collects the money on their behalf via a portal on the Miele site. The retailer uses the portal to arrange payment, and puts in the customers address, where they have selected days the item will be delivered (and installed). After that Miele either sends an Agency fee to the retailer (or the retailer pays the retail price minus the agency fee), and the salesman gets a commission.

  • When I was looking for appliances a few years ago, I stumbled on a huge thread on Whirlpool where people were buying Miele from overseas. With the AUD being so poor, probably not an option anymore

    • Yes, I found that. Such a great thread … especially if you were kitting out the whole house … sadly the exchange rate is a killer right now. Plus, I've read of a few having issues with international warranties etc.

  • Bought an exdisplay asko cooktop from an E&S clearance store (in melbourne). (Asko don’t discount either). Was sold with a 2, rather than 5yr warranty. From memory 1500 down to 1000

  • Bought a Miele vacuum cleaner from Good Guys Commercial (roughly $350) versus normal Good Guys (royalty $550). Not sure about the laundry products range.

  • We bought a Miele washer and Dishwasher a little while ago. We get deals on most things, but Meile seem to have a business model that only gives you their specials.
Have worked out how to save money with them though. You can save thousands, not hundreds if you Buy Basic!
It is really tempting to get all of the extras, but if you wait for their specials on the basic models you get the high build quality and reliability, and they are not a lot more expensive than Bosch etc.
Make every extra fight for its right for your wallet.
We got a pretty basic washer and it is awesome, we paid a little extra for the cutlery tray and are glad every day. You can probably get your washer and dryer without the latest extras for $3k total and you won’t even think about it in a months time.
We even bought a Miele dishwasher to replace one in a rental. The special price on the basic was about under $1000, and their warranty and reliability make this worth it.

I bought a miele dishwasher a few months ago. The price on appliancesonline.com.au was about $600 cheaper than harvey and bing lee. I went into bing lee and they price matched with free delivery (because appliances online deliver for free as standard.)

Another option you may not have thought of is using an interior designer. My fiance is one and she always gets better than retail for most interior items including white goods…I don't know if I'm allowed to post her/my details but let me know if you are interested as it's quite a large investment and savings are better than retail anyday.

    • I would be interested thanks, looking to buy a dishwasher.

      • I enabled the pm function

      • I enabled the pm function

    • Easyteas85, can you please switch your PM function on as some of us want to talk to you.

      • All done. Sorry I didn't know I had to enable it..

10 year warranty far out weighs any minor discount.

I have had issues with the Good Guys but if you tell them you'll be spending 7.5k, I am sure they would accommodate you and you avail the 10y warranty as well.

Miele's warranty sucks. Took irritatingly long time before finally agreeing to have my fridge fixed. In the meantime I had to buy food every f****** day.
