Dual Core i5? Laptop CPU?
Ah then it is a laptop CPU
Wow what a joke.
Naaah - save your pennies for the next gen.
ARM mac
Or do what I did and build your own.
Faster, better and 50% doesn't go to Apple.
List your specs.
I did before, but it's disappeared. Here they are:
*AMD Ryzen 7 3700X
* Gigabyte B450M MB
* 16GB Corsair Ram 2 x 8
* 2 x 512GB A2000 SSD drives
* MSI GT710 2@B (Now a RX580 8GB
* Acer 31.5" Curved Screen
iMac 21.5 on Geekbench
Single-Core - 786
Multi-Core Score - 1872
My Ryzentosh https://browser.geekbench.com/v5/cpu/compare/3764581?baselin…
Single-Core - 1176
Multi-Core - 5752
@BewareOfThe Dog: So what are we looking at here, about $1500 in parts without a case or power supply..?
@smartazz104: That included a PSU and basic case.
Part of their 10% off Mac range sale… but given the whole transition to ARM, I'm not sure if I'd want to be buying an Intel based Mac in 2020… and that's before we look at the age of the processor in tihs particluar model.
I agree, and I would rather wait to get a new one. However, given the state of the USD - AUD exchange rate and the fact that prices are going up & up, I reckon it's doubtful the new one would be this cheap
Now that NVidia are buying ARM, I wonder if this made Apple think twice.
Nope.
one has nothing to do with the other.
Apple doesn't pay royalties on each ARM SOC sold and has completely custom designs. The buyout won't affect them.
How will these ARM ones handle dual booting?
I believe they will no longer support bootcamp, but will support virtual machine apps like Parallels to run Linux
No indication except for the big banner on the homepage. All Macs are 10% off, and this would have to be the worst one.

Thanks, I've updated
My R7 3700x Ryzentosh would blow this away for less money, 16GB, Dual OS and a 31.5" screen.

I have since added an RX 580, and there is no overclocking involved.
If a dumb middle aged country bumpkin like me can do it, anyone can. Best thing is dual boot. Mac for music, Windows for everything else.
Where can I find the specs for your Ryzentosh PC? Is it quiet? And how did you obtain the Mac software?
Plenty of hackintosh guides online to help you get the software and put together compatible hardware.
Just buy the iMac already. Building a computer from scratch is just not your thing.
Hi, Its above, but here it is:-
*AMD Ryzen 7 3700X
* Gigabyte B450M MB
* 16GB Corsair Ram 2 x 8
* 2 x 512GB A2000 SSD drives
* MSI GT710 2@B (Now a RX580 8GB
* Acer 31.5" Curved Screen
Very quiet, in fact it's more quiet than the 21.5" iMac it replaced.
Best guide is TechTunerLife on YT, though it does go for 90 mins. He takes you through the Install process quite thoroughly.
Of course everyone knows that a hackintosh would destroy an apple mac for raw price/performance.
Not a fair comparison though because they are meant for completely different people. Apple mac comes ready to go out the box, guaranteed stability, warranty and customer support … etc.
I wouldn't advocate going out and buying one of these, but undeniably this is a discounted price for this specific product. Don't see how that is a valid neg to say its worse value than a DIY PC.
dumb middle aged country bumpkin\
At least we agree with something you wrote.
At least they can make a joke about themself, unlike you.
What a funny joke , dual core i5 and pay 1500$ for it …..looooooooool
Just because it has a stupid crappy Apple logo which some people die for :/ , wth they think putting even such deals!!!!!
Suddenly my purchase of an RTX 3080 for $1,500 seems like good value for money
Seventh-generation dual-core Intel Core i5 processor
