Small Cars and Their Infamous Problems

I would like to compile a simple list (not your entire story) of common and/or infamous small car problems, specifically to their model type. Let's say ideally a rough range from 2010's till now (but can be old as 2000's). Happy for this list to include recalls on previous models.

I'll start with some general examples:

  • Corolla Sportivo - Gearbox issues.
  • Peugeot 206/306 - Coolant/water tank leaks & electrical gremlins.
  • VW Golf - DSG.
  • i30 - Aircon & condensation.

Edit: This list assumes you are servicing it regularly/properly, and not thrashing your car.

    My friend's Jazz had the paint wear away from the part connected to the side mirrors. I've noticed it on a few other Jazz's, mainly mid 2000s to mid 2010s.

    2012-2015 Ford Focus Powershift transmission issue (Fiesta and Mondeo maybe included too). Worst car i've bought.

      Why didn't you get ford to buy back the car? I thought they offered that.

    Peugeot 206 /electrical gremlins. The ECU failed before10 years. Very few, if any, of these cars left on the road and the youngest would only be 12-13 yrs old (2007/08).
    VW Golf of that age are still everywhere, cant drive a 10 mile without seeing dozens.

    Biggest problem with small cars is when they get hit by something bigger.

    I love small cars. Nothing wrong with them. My current daily is an 07 Hyundai GETZ 5 speed and it is so comfortable and reliable and surprisingly has heaps of room to carry stuff with back seats down.

    Very zippy through traffic and can park it anywhere.

    Cost half as much to do the same amount Kms as a commodore 😁
