I'll get the Pixel 4A suggestion out of the way first,. Also the 3A XL is good too.

Apart from that there are a few mid rangers like the Xiaomi Mi Note 10, Redmi Note 9 Pro, Samsung Galaxy A51 that are also good options. Or slightly older flagships. We are pretty spoilt for choice nowadays :-)

  Best to just get the Pixel 4a if a good camera is wanted for 'around' $500.
  I have the 4a and it's a really good phone.

Pixel 4a, if you can stretch it.

Otherwise, the Poco X3 has good cameras too and can be had for under $400.
