Has anyone received yet flight credits for those flights cancelled?

    • You're entitled for a refund. Raise a chargeback with the bank or credit card company.

Virgin is not doing refunds. It is BS!

        • a quick search on twitter / fb shows some are. I'd recommend tweeting them about it - it's usually the best way to get a response as it's public.

@beatthatflight: No refunds on my $3000 fare to US. confirmed by the TA.

            • @corrocoat: Might just be the TA. Have a read of this slightly old article: https://www.choice.com.au/travel/on-holidays/airlines/articl… - check your terms, and seriously, just contact Virgin on twitter. It's amazing how much power customer service agents suddenly have when a disagreement is in public. (source: used to work for an airline)

@beatthatflight: It is a TA my company uses, so They talk to Virgin, I cannot. Since Velocity was taken over by Virgin, the service is BS!

          • +4

@beatthatflight: You shouldn't need to chase them on social media for a refund…

            • +3

@xuqi: Totally agree. But I'm just suggesting that in my experience with utilities, airlines, telcoms and others, social media seems to elicit a faster and often happier outcome.

I got a refund on my flights that were going to Europe last July.

        • Yes. That's why I'm saying raise a chargeback.

  • Any planes left?

Since Velocity was taken over by Virgin the taxes have doubled. Velocity Bris to Cairns return $400 taxes for 4 people…how is that free flying? BS

    • +3

      Taxes haven't changed that much.

Brisbane to Cairns on Qantas for 4 people return is about $315 on Qantas, $330 on Jetstar, and $375 on Virgin.

There might be a slight issue with VA's systems collecting some kind of GST that matches a cash ticket on award flights but aside from that everything else looks normal.

        Velocity = money grab

      • I always thought virgin taxes were a lot lower than qantas previously?

        • +1

Virgin Australia raised them at the beginning of the year this was a change announced in late 2019 that came into effect in earlier this year (all well before the pandemic).

    • +1

Doesn't even make sense as Velocity was started by Virgin - it's never been taken over by them.

  • +1

    Targeted at non-Victorians :( :)

  • +1

I got a full refund (points and taxes) on flights I booked using Velocity.

  • -6

No redemptions at the Velocity store.

  • -4

    No deal. Virgin lacks integrity.

    • -2

Yes, the brand really sucks now.

Owned by venture capitalist. Read an article that said they usually strip the assets , sell the planes and let her rip. I thought that couldn't be and one day after the sale was complete, they flew the majority the of the fleet out of Australia. Now where can they raise the balance of the purchase price from?

    • Qantas did the same, sending planes to California. As the flag carrier you'd think they'd keep them here and keep jobs in Australia.

      • not if they can't fill them I guess :/

What did confuse me tho - there's a plane graveyard/holding spot at Alice Springs airports. Singapore Airlines flew a bunch there, AirNZ too. Why did Qantas not do that, instead of all the fuel and costs of sending to California…

        • Cost/future use plays into it. Alice Springs is full and being expanded so probably not available there, or cheaper to park in the US.

        • The answers are easily found online. For example - Why Is Qantas Sending Its A380s To The United States For Storage?

Key factors include lower humidity than Alice Springs and Qantas already having well-established maintenance arrangements in California. Everything would have been taken into consideration including upfront and long term cost.

          • @UrMumsOnlyFan: Wow, I even remember reading that article when I saw it. (facepalm). Memory like a sieve sometimes ;) Thanks!

So, double something worth zero in value equals…. zero?
