Woolworths Mobile Prepaid ½ Price Sim and Recharge Offer - $2 SIM + $29 Recharge Now $15.50

851

Guys if you are already using Woolies Prepaid Cap for mobile phones then this has to be worth something, except it feels kinda wrong.

Basically the offer is “BUY A WOOLWORTHS MOBILE $2 SIM and $29 RECHARGE VOUCHER FOR $15.50”
http://catalogues.bigw.com.au/portal/offerdetails/woolworths…

Now I don’t need the SIM, but the vouchers yeah (I have three teenagers using that plan…)

So I guess I have to buy a bunch!

If you are thinking of doing the same, please return the SIMs (like just hand them back) to Woolies – it would be wasteful to just toss the SIM (packaging, carbon footprint etc.)

If you are shopping for a prepaid plan, this is worth looking at as it has a 45 day expiry and a whopping 5GB.

Mod: Deal has been extended to Jan 14

I got ten @ $12.60. They did it in 2 lots of 5, and the form for ID only takes 5 SIM numbers.

    • i guess you must chew the credit then- as i work out 9 for 1 years worth ?

      • i guess you must chew the credit then- as i work out 9 for 1 years worth ?

There is more than one phone in the family.

  • I got 2 sims and 2 recharges for about $25 with my rewards card. One transaction. They needed to see my license, but I personally didn't have to fill in any forms. Woolworths Dickson (ACT)

  • no ID provided at DS this morning.

  • so say you buy 2 sets so 2 sims and 2 recharge voucher… can you use the 2 vouchers on the 1 sim and just throw the other ones?

    • Sure, that's why the extra SIMs are redundant as the title states. Vouchers are not tied to any SIM.

  • are the sims normal full size or do they have the micro pre-cut into the sim so you can pop them out for your micro sim devices?

  • (2) Excludes mobile handset tethering and use of non mobile devices.

While technically it's possible to detect tethering by examining the TTLs of the packets, unless some countermeasures have been used in the tether OS, I seriously doubt if Optus will bother to check.

For those old enough to remember, ISPs used to have "no-NAT" stipulations. Nowadays it's accepted as normal. No-tether stipulations will eventually go the same way.

Warning!!! I purchased a Woolworths sim card and $29 credit because of the 5gb of data for my pc tablet. It will NOT let you access the internet with the tablets, only phones. Nice one Woolworths. I didnt see that mentioned anywhere.

        http://www.lifehacker.com.au/2011/08/planhacker-comparing-da…

        • So use an Android phone to tether.

It's also unclear if antoni actually tried or just read the T&C.

        • Not true. I have used it on my GT7.

        • Lifehacker got a few things wrong - also says you can't tether on Woolies - apparenly wrong.
I'm on an Aldi 3G tablet writing this - absolutely no problem!
But popped in first to Optus shop & they set up APN settings.
Great as can use my 5GB in 45 days & maybe return the tablet in 60 if not satisfied!

        • it says you can't tether because it is written in the woolworths' t&cs for the prepaid plans

$29 and $49 recharge also includes 5GB data which is for use within Australia on internet browsing and downloading content. Data is charged in 1MB increments for uploads and downloads within Australia. Excludes mobile handset tethering and use of non mobile devices.

        • Can't tether??? I am writing this tethered now!
That's the difference between theory & reality!!

i'm not complaining. i just wanted to check before buying. i suppose if it is prepaid then they can't bill you extra for anything. they could enforce the t&cs at any time if they so wish.

    • My SIMs are valid to September. But does it matter? They are only $2.

Also never asked for ID (sick of filling in forms ;)

  • I bought one from Dick Smith but I didn't get a discount for having my Rewards card?

  • Got one for my visiting cousin, swyped my Everyday Rewards card and it was discounted to $12 something dollars!!

    Stoked.

  • So can anyone confirm the max number of vouchers/sims you can purchase? Is it true you can only have 4-6 sims in your name, or is it 'active' sims?? Or does it really depend on the store..? I've already bought 3, in 2 separate tranactions (only activated one sim though) but want to buy enough for the year for myself and husband today…so another 15 if possible….

    • I bought 5 from the Woollies at the Parra Westfield. The staff asked me if I wanted more so I assume that you can buy at your discretion.

    • Is it true you can only have 4-6 sims in your name

Buy as many as you want. You don't have to activate them all, which is where the problem might arise.
Keep in mind the Nov 2012 expiry.

  • awesome ,the sale started here in victoria today but can only buy one at a time

  • Got one in QV Woolies. Clerk asked for ID.

  • when does the offer ends?

    • Fine print on BigW catalogue seems to suggest end of the year?

      http://www.lasoo.com.au/offer/telephone-services/woolworths-…

Only available at Woolworths and Safeway Supermarkets, BIG W, Dick Smith, participating Caltex Woolworths co-branded fuel outlets. The eligible Woolworths mobile recharge vouchers (either $29 or $49) and Woolworths mobile $2 SIM pack must be purchased together and in the one transaction in order to receive both products at half price. Not redeemable or exchangeable for cash. Cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer. Offer starts 9am AEDST 10/11/2011 and ends 11:59pm AEDST 31/12/11.

    • Now extended until at least 14/1/12

  • A useful piece of info for some, and a belated question for someone…
Q first: Has anybody tried to tether on W prepaid and actually had any difficulties?

The maybe useful piece of info relates to the number of active sims you can have. Five - if you want to have up to a couple more you have to send in identity documentation to the feds. Lesson is that if you're taking up alot of the offers out there from different providers you may need to make sure you port numbers across so as to automatically close some previous accounts.

    • Tethering worked fine with my Android.

    • No problems on 3G android tablet, with desktop tethered to tablet.

  • -2

    10mb billing increments for data

    • ??? 1/10 that at 1MB - am on tablet so am watching data usage.

  • Anyone picked up this offer recently? Myself and partner have decided to port to woolies mobile before the end of the year and will be picking up 8 of these each which should keep us going nicely.

  • i bought 3 today for $37.80 (12.60 each) with everyday rewards card plus got 8 cents a litre off fuel added to my card.

  • can anyone please confirm if the plan works with non-mobile devices, ie, laptop

    • How would they know whether your device is a mobile or not?

    • Works for me on Tablet with built in 3G. I'm using it to post this.

    • I just put mine into a pocket wifi dongle and it worked fine. Activated online, recharged online, linked it all online, popped it into a phone to get the sms codes, and then into the dongle, and it connected fine.

I'll test data tomorrow, and if it's all good, I'll pick a few more up for use later in the year. I don't care about the calls, just the 5Gb of data.

      • What are sms codes?

    • Yes,it works with my htc desire connected to netbook.

  • is the who's who tone a woolworths specific thing or is it provided by all optus resellers?

    • I called an Optus number and I got the who's who tone. I'd say all Optus mobile accounts that have Optus Money have it.

    • Optus tone so people can know they are using their My Bonus credit, etc. rather than using their Credit or My Credit balance.

      • It's called Optus Money on the usage page. But who knows what other terms their hyperactive marketing team dreamt up.

WOOLIES 1/2 PRICE SIM&RECHARGE STILL ON SPECIAL!!
T&C on site say expires end of 14/1/2012, but possibly ongoing - as old 2G Everyday Mobile is wound down by end of first quarter 2012.
    http://www.woolworthsmobile.com.au/terms-conditions

  • i got one today and sim had expiry of 1/9/2012 and voucher had expiry of 1/11/2012

  • tried to get one today - no luck, i will keep searching

  • Got one from Dick Smith North Sydney for $14.05. Activated and ported in 30 minutes!!

  • Just picked up 10 today in Woolworths (Fitzroy). Manager had to check and apparently limit was 10 per customer. Wrote down each sim barcode # on the outside as well as my name and address. I queried whether they could just keep or return the sims but it didn't seem possible. The register came up as Restricted Qty Limit at 7 so had to split the transaction.

Now, on screen the bundle and the discount was shown. On the receipt, it is an separate line item:

    WOW 2 DOLLAR SIM PACK
    $2 ea

If someone is keen to try, you may be able to return them but I would hazard a guess that it would set off a lot of confusion or probably require returning the recharge as well?

After I swiped the rewards card, it became even cheaper and worked out to be $12.64 each. Paid via a gift card I bought on eBay for 10% off so $11.38 each plus some Qantas FF points.

One thing to note, even though it should be 12 months expiry, the vouchers say November 1, 2012. So roughly 9 months and 3 weeks. Upside is it says No Refunds if Activated, so perhaps you can get a refund if you end up having too many.

    • $12.64? You paid 4c too much! :)

      PS: How come $12.64?

      • Hmm, yes, it was $12.60. Where did I carry that extra $.04 from? Thanks OP.

  • Has anyone try to cut the sim themselves? As i dont seem to see the micro sim avaliable in store?

    • There were definitely microsims in the store I went to. Perhaps call around and see. Wonder if an Optus shop will cut them for Woolworths Mobile customers?

      • I tried Woolworths and Dick smith, they have none for micro sim. I guess i might just have to buy one of the normal one and try it out myself… if comes to worst :(

        • Update: tried cut the sim myself and works on my iphone.
          This is an awsome deal!!!
