2015/2016 Wynns Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon 6pk $173 @ Dan Murphy's (Selected Stores)

80

Got reminded in the recent deal to check stock level at home, and decided to stock up.

Excellent price @ $28.80 a bottle. Further 5% discount with WW eGC.

Stock level will vary across different stores. Amongst the 2, 2016 is the most well received vintage. Whilst 2015 is a lil special (from a marketing point of view) given it is the 60th vintage.

Probably good for 5-10 years. (In fact, I would keep it for 5+ years before digging into it).

Edit: 2017 is sold for x6 bottles @ $216. But the guy in store said should come up to the same price as 2015. (Didn't try)

          Still in probation.

  • I prefer the no-carb version.

    • Skinnied down the title just for ya.

      • Thanks. Now the other bit … I have never heard anybody abbreviate this as anything but "cab sav". To say "sauv" with a French accent would be seen as a bit pretentious? Non? :-)

        • Not really a french accent, but I do pronouncing more in line with the French 'au' sound, i.e. more like a hard o. It's a shortening of sauvignon (so vi nion) so it just makes sense to me.

Pronouncing it like saveloy sounds like it should be used in the phrase "oi Shazza, can you pour me another cab sav while I'm in the dunny?"

@freefall101: But that's exactly how I hear Australians pronounce it, with the short 'a', or they use the full "sauvignon". I waiter would not say cab sav :)

I only noticed because OP call it "carb sauv" :)

@bargaino: Ah, point taken then, never saw the 'carb' hahaha

I grew up in the country but have been told I sound like a posh bastard sometimes, might have something to do with the fact I pronounce 'sauv' like 'sov' then.

  • I am wondering if it is still as good as it was 25 years back when it considered the gold standard for Cab Savs. I remembered buying a case for around $150.00, cellaring it for a few years and drinking it on special occasions - a really great wine at a very good price.

  • You can still buy for $150 a case if you're patient. Last week I picked up from Vintage Cellars for $142.50

      Wow. Post on ozb please.

A few wines that i keep hardly goes on sale. Namely Wynns Black, and the Lindemans Coonawarra Trios.
