[eBay Plus] Gigabyte RTX 2070 Windforce 8GB $539.10 Delivered @ Computer Alliance eBay

1350
PIP10

Another brave post…

Best guess is that the 3070 will be about 60% faster and cost about 50% more based on some crap assumptions:

https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-RTX-2080-Ti-vs-…

and $809/$539.19

So slightly worse value for money if you can get a 3070 and if they stay at the expected price of $809 when they drop.

Hopefully this trickle-down effect will continue.

Neg away!!

Upvoted for the effort to compare price/performance numbers

How good is this compared to the gtx 1650 super for $210?

      • +10

Performance per $ is in favour of the 1650 Super - 2070 is about twice as fast.

        • +1

Woohoo, I can get two 1650 Supers for $420 for the same performance. I just love the thought of beating the system…

          • @Canetoad: Not really, SLI is not good these days and you won't have RTX features. Not sure if serious.

            • +4

@Orazio: I think he was being sarcastic tbh. The idea of price to performance when comparing low end to the other tier gpus is not a great stat. Otherwise price to performance ratio would always favour the cheaper gpus.

Ideally you compare price to performance in relatively similar products.

      • +1

Get the 1650 super, at least that will be good for your second / third / fourth rig once you grab a 3x or rdna2 series.

    k

  • This is exactly what I'm running. Don't think I'll even bother selling mine lol.

    • +2

How much did you purchase yours for?

      • 699 I think. Might use it in a HTPC when I upgrade

  • +8

Getting hold of 3070 is not going to be easy. And $809 is a starting price.

    • Yeah, but isn't the production capacity better, now that Nvidia is using Samsung, compared to TSMC with RTX 2000s?
Meaning there will be more stock this time round, and (hopefully) cheaper from the get go?

Or at least I hope so.

      • Reality is many will try to drown their selves in rtx 30 soup at launch.

        • -1

They'll use scarcity marketing, because it'll be more profitable.

      • 1 word and 2 numbers for you

Its actually 1 word and 1 number.. else its 1 word and 2 digits :)

  • +10

Let be real. AIB 3070s are gonna be closer to 1000, because no founders cards, meaning its easier for retailers (or aibs) to price gouge.

Personally, im waiting for 2080tis to hit 850 and Id rather grab one of those and avoid the debacle.

    • +3

Actually not a bad idea if you don't really use RTX and game at 1440p.

I am still on a 1070 and 1440p works great. New CPU has helped for CPU intensive titles. Probably keep it until next year and see what happens with prices.

      • Same situation here. This is the first time I have completely skipped over a generation of Nvidia cards; the xx70s have just become too expensive to upgrade all the time. I hope the Australian dollar is around 75% of the USD when these cards are released; it would make the price more palatable.

        • I think GPUs will head in the same direction as CPUs - an upgrade every few generations, uless you want super high frame rate and super high res.

    • Nah mango. AIB $800.

  • +7

If suppliers were expecting stock to be limited and prices to be inflated above msrrp they wouldnt be slinging off all these 2000 series cards at cheap prices.
    In my opinion.

    • +1

Could be a precautionary thing but I agree with you.

    • +1

My thoughts exactly, but only time will tell, and thats a few more days away.

    • +1

It's a decent drop but it's by no means cheap

    • +1

~100 less than the already inflated AUD prices is not cheap at all.

If this was 400, and the 2070 super 500, then I would agree.

  • Nice deal OP. I know there will be many that will say go for the bleeding edge but this is a lot of GPU for the price and was selling around 800 just weeks ago.

Also impressed that others haven't downvoted like on other threads.

    • +1

Cos this price is good enough.

    • Yeah, this price makes more sense

    • It was actually the 2070 Super that was selling around 800, not 2070
Same card at $659 just weeks ago https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/558699

  • Price isn't too bad.

  • I have a 1070.. had a 2060 super and the price didn't justify the performance… how is the 2070 vs 2060 super.. i believe they are about the same.. not sure if I should rather get the 2070 super or 2080

**the prices are just a rough guide for your convenience. There are many factors that affect prices for you personally.

edit: just realized the format above looks great on desktop, but is very messy for mobile viewers. So rotate your phone to landscape mode in order to see a much much cleaner post.

      • The 3080 might have a better performance to price ratio than the 3070; it has 60% more processor units and a superior type of Video card Ram, but cost 40% more. Also 10 GB vs 8GB of onboard Ram; perhaps this could help for people running 4k textures.

        • Maybe, but we should wait for independent tests first. Hardware Unboxed is right up there with the ones to look out for. And maybe even wait longer (Q1 2021) to see how the market adapts with supply issues smoothing out, and the RDNA-2 cards released too. But one thing is certain, next-gen consoles will be getting native 4K gameplay with higher-quality textures, so VRAM requirements is going to evolve.

I remember when WindowsXP was still a thing and 512MB GPUs were all the rage. There weren't any iGPUs at that time, and ATI was leading the industry. Then we hit 1GB fairly quickly (~2009), followed by 2GB (~2010), and a little later 4GB cards (~2012). It was at this point we concluded 4GB is the base level, and what 1080p will need for many years to come, so much so that, slower AMD cards with lots of RAM weren't desirable unless you were crypto-mining.

It took until ~2016 until 8GB cards on the high-end were mainstream. And these cards could do 4K on older/weaker/slower/less demanding/more optimised games. But that was established as the 1440p sweet spot, and it still stands true to this day.

So what about 4K ? Looking at things linearly, you'd think 12GB VRAM is the target. However, I think it expands exponentially so even that's quite limiting. I think eventually we're going to settle on 16GB VRAM (~2021) being the sweet spot . It's been rumoured/leaked as that's what RDNA-2 is going to introduce this year. Not to mention other AIB/Companies who are thinking of adding more VRAM to the graphics cards on the Nvidia RTX-3000 lineup, either shortly after launch or through some Super/Ti variant scheme.

Good deal, but these may come down further pretty soon. People will want the latest because it's human nature, logic often comes second.

  • Good price, thanks OP, I bought one.

  • When rtx 2070 hits $450 I'm gonna jump on board, not sure if my xeon e5 2420v2 can hold up the rtx 2070 thoo

  • if you can wait, rtx30 series is good choice, similar price, 30% faster

    • +3

Similar price? Pretty sure you won't get a 3070 for $500

      • May be he is talking about 3050 if available?

  • It's neither cheap nor bad

    • But not expensive or good either.

  • +1

Just a heads up, you can buy used 2070 Supers right now for around this price, sometimes even cheaper, e.g. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ASUS-Dual-GeForce-RTX-2070-SUPER…

  • +2

These cards haven't bottomed out yet. Will probably be cheaper very soon

  • -1

2070 had a launch price of from $499 US, so still overpriced.

  • +1

I've got 2x 780ti's, I'll wait until the end of the year to probably get the 2070 when I upgrade my 6+ year old rig. Hopefully the prices drop a bit more.

  • Would anyone know is it worth upgrading from a Zotax 1070, will i notice any speed difference?

  • Received this card yesterday, so am here to give an update on its performance and issues.

Seems to perform as well as other comparable 2070 cards. Maybe on the slightly lower end, but for my use it's good.

Main issue seems to be a common one with this specific card - the fans tick on and off at around 50 degrees. It ticks on to bring the temps lower than 50, then ticks back down to 0 rpm once it is, but any low load seems to drive the temps back up above 50 so it's literally on and off every second or two. It can be "fixed" when using the Aorus software if you turn on the active fan and set a custom fan curve of 38-40% fan power (about 800rpm, not really audible, negligible imo), which keeps it well under 55 degrees under low loads. For some reason having the fan power under 40% doesn't work consistently and can go back into the tick tock motion. I have had varying degrees of success, and have it at 36% at idle/low load so YMMV. You can then bump the fan power to suit your needs when it's above 55 degrees, I find 77% acceptable to keep the temps sitting at 80-81 degrees on a high load, which is loud at 1500rpm.

Not sure if will RMA, need some more days with it. But again, this is a known issue that Gigabyte hasn't released an updated bios for and at this point 2 years on I doubt they will.
