Been keeping my eye out for a 4/5 bay NAS and saw this 2-bay at 15% off. It's only $12.50 more than it's last great deal posted by Clear ~4 months ago.

It uses Realtek's RTD1296 Quad-Core CPU which is designed for media playback, 2 SATA slots, 1GB RAM, 1 Gbe Ethernet port, 2 USB 3.0 ports on the rear, RAID 0, RAID 1, JBOD support and up to 16TB in each bay.

A much cheaper alternative (in price) to the ~$365 Synology DS218play which has the same CPU and RAM as the TerraMaster.

  This unit is probably fine for file backups, but is it okay for streaming with only 1Gb of RAM? RAM is not upgradeable according to the specs so would it be better to spend a little more to get one that can be upgraded?

    Late to the party but you're right. Despite being designed for media playback it's not really suitable and the main reason is the CPU.

    I'm guessing typo - the specs comparison chart further down says it has 1 x GbE.
