We needed a card since last year…
Just pulled the trigger on a 2070 super EVGA so happy relieved😊 finally

      • +12

        "need" is a strong word

        • Haha..I agree…what I meant is that I already got x570 MB a few weeks ago from amazon and want to get the system up and running because of Amazon return cut of date is end of the September…just in case the MB is DOA…

      • +3

I need a card by the end of the month..

Second hand GTX 1080 / RTX 2070? Can upgrade to 3080 next year when there is actually stock here. You won't be buying a 3080 by the end of this month.

      • +2

as others said. need…. or want? I needed a card last month, instead I split the 2 RX 480's I had in crossfire and put one in each machine till I can get a 3000 series (or RDNA2 if they astound in the next month or so). If I had to buy a card I would be looking at a placeholder low end card unless I could get the 2080 super or TI extremely cheap (i.e. sub 1000 for TI, sub 700 for super)

        • +1

          i agree…i think I ll do excatly that…
          Thx

          • @Mandalorian: Wow, what are the odds that you also had 2x RX 480's sitting in crossfire that you could split while waiting for 3000 series?

            • @realrift: Haha..sorry..I was repliying to a different comment….I meant Ill get smthn cheap while waiting..

      • You can have my 1080Ti for $500 before the end of the month :D

  • +2

Thanx, delicious bargain, U r tru fren!

  • +7

Am I crazy for considering this?
Concerned with stock levels of 3000 series resulting in scalpers/high prices.
    I'll be playing 1440p 144hz.

      • +2

Not when you are trying to play Flight Sim 2020.

      • +10

Definitely not overkill for 1440p 144hz

    • +4

The 3080 will be around these prices. Don't do it.

      • RRP; sure, but they've already announced Ampere is extremely limited for the rest of this year. Only the first production run will be available until at least January, and it's a much smaller than usual run than previous gen as it is. Add COVID to the mix, and I wouldn't be surprised if retailers charge $500 more than RRP for launch, if not more. Founders Edition cards aren't even launching in Australia so that just gives retailers more incentive to gouge.

I hope I'm wrong, but I just don't see the pricing that's been announced as being realistic. Lots of people excited. Lots of people will be disappointed (at launch anyway).

    • I play 1440p with a 1080Ti still and it smashes majority of most titles so you will definitely be fine w\ this card if you don't want to wait.

  • +1

Waiting for the 3080 :) anyone know if pccasegear have an email notification sign up to let me know when it goes on sale ?

    • +3

It's been confirmed by Nvidia it will not be selling their official cards in Australia. Only cards from their partners. End of October would be my guess is when you could get one here

      • +1

Can we not just buy founders from the states? I mean even if they don't ship directly there are services that will receive and forward packages for you for a small fee onto of international freight.

People posting here like it's not at all possible to get your hands on founders

        • I'm planning on trying that through shopmate :)
The only issue will be if it needs warranty.

      • Why?

    • Take as example the Intel 10th gen. 10700k was sold for 750 at launch…now 600-610…

      • because 3900x

        • +1

Nope. Overpriced due to hype over it and for being a launch product. Who is expecting to buy a 3070 for 809 is dreaming.

          • +4

@Dienk: there is no hype for intel 10th gen

if ryzen doesn't exist , we would have 10700k still with 4 cores 8 threads for $999

  • +6

STAY STRONG GUYS, RTX 3070, 3080 and 3090 is almost here, trust me i know how tempting this might be but hold out a little longer.

    • Yeah, but I need a card by the end of the month!!

      • +5

        Need or want? huge difference.
I sold my 2080 super a few weeks ago and am using a shitty gpu that definitely cannot give me enough fps on my 1440p 160hz Ultrawide monitor but im still holding out for RTX 3090

        • +2

I'm on a 1080ti and I figure if I can't get a 3080 at launch I'll wait around for the best after market 3080. I usually upgrade every 2 generations. 3080 looks like it'll be a sweet card for setting up with the 4k tv though.

    • Be here doesn't mean you will get one. There won't be card to everyone

  • +4

I guess the 2080ti was not the golden card like the 980 ti or 1080 ti siblings were

    • The 980ti definitely wasn't either… 1070 was around the same level.

      • My 980ti Gigabyte Xtreme Gaming could match my friends GTX1080 FE… Only sold it a month ago in time for RTX 3000, great card

        • Sorry, but that just isn't true at all.. https://youtu.be/Oc9YiVze8OU

It goes head to head with the 1070, and the 1080 was like 20% faster than the 1070. Maybe your friends 1080 was faulty?

          • @Vinodra: I don't think the card in your video is my card..

            • @scottySK: I dunno, but every benchmark of the 980ti points to it being roughly the same power as the GTX 1070.

Here is another video which includes the 980ti, the 1070 and the 1080.

              https://youtu.be/lIzE5g2WlBo

Pascal (10XX series) was a huge jump over Maxwell (9XX) Series, Turing (20XX Series) was more of a side grade to Pascal, Ampere (30XX series) is going to be an even bigger jump than Maxwell -> Pascal if nvidias numbers are to be trusted. Going from a 980ti to a 3070 or 3080 will be a huge upgrade for you.

              • @Vinodra: Yeah fair enough, I just know my card would hit around 18k on firestrike which was within 10% of the 1080

                • @scottySK: That's about right since you had a high end AIB with a decent overclock im guessing, founders 1080 had pretty bad cooling if I remember correctly.

                  • @Vinodra: Yes I think they ran hot and couldn't hold boost clocks

      • -1

3070 is not the same level as 2080ti it's above it at all times

        • So was the 1070 though, the only time the 3070 may fall behind is when above 8GB of vram is required. (4K Ultra in certain games).

  • +23

    Hooollllddddd,,,….. HOLLLLDDDDDDDDD..

  • +2

all in stock… no one's biting at this time.

  • +4

Price gouging. They are not worth even the discount price.

  • Anyone know an AU$ price for the 3090? I'm guessing around 2k-ish?

    • +3

      Starting at $2429

      • +7

        Cheap as chips

      • Ouch, it was funny on the reveal, NVIDIA black jacket dude, when he pulled it out of the oven, if you turn the volume up you can hear his sweet whisper, "come to pappa" was goat

        • +1

Im waiting for benchmarks to see the fps difference between the 3080 and 3090, if it's not a decent enough difference ill go 3080.

  • +5

I have a 980TI which I still use until this very day, I paid $1000 back in 2015 I think it's finally time to upgrade, RTX 3070 here I come

    • +4

3080 you know you want to :)

    • +2

      Same here!
      3080 for me though :D

    • +1

I'm on a 980ti that cost $500 not long after release :D big gumtree win. Bought two for $1300 and flogged one for $800

3080 and new pc for me I think

    • I just sold my 980ti for $450 about a month or so ago, which is the same price I bought it for shortly after release as a used card

  • +14

You will be like Hitler if you buy RTX 2080 Ti now XD
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKneUFwVkXI

  • +3

Oh these will be crazy cheap in the next month or so. Poor recent buyers.

    • +9

Poor guy who bought my Aorus 2080 Super a few weeks ago for $1100 lucky for me though haha

      • +3

        I sold a 1080 for $550 a month ago, still feel dirty.

        • Wtf that's expensive even before the Nvidia 3000 announcement.

    • +3

people have been told to wait for months now, the 3000 series launch was not a surprise.
By the time it arrives the 2000 series will be almost 2 years old, it's really no ones fault but theirs if they couldn't hold on.

      • +2

Told to wait, but there was a lot of expectations of higher price points and lower performance gains. Been patiently waiting but I was still pleasantly shocked at performance and price. Could easily understand purchases prior to announcement

        • Perhaps people just wanted to use them asap? Everyone's situation is different

          • @scottySK: fully acknowledge that, if you have the spare cash and don't care you are paying a lot more for less performance then it is the right thing to do. Personally I want best bang for buck and you won't get that out of current gen cards even at these discounted prices, so for me the right choice is wait and settle for lower performance till I can get my hands on one of these.

  • I might wait until maybe 3080ti version comes out as I’m still happy with 1080ti for now

    • It's still a good card, might just need to lower texture quality for future releases, but will hold up.

  • All the 2080 ti's on PCCG have dropped to <$1299 including the waterblocked Aorus one. I hope it drops even further

  • +13

Still not good enough but I am going to upvote this since PCCG is actually trying to move the stock, laughable that other retailers are as of right now, trying to get $2K for these cards

  • +2

THis is hardly a deal hahahahahahah

  • +1

    Very sad….

  • I got a 1080ti and barely use it. Also I’ve got a 2k 165hz g sync screen now which the 1080ti runs fine with.
If I actually get back Into gaming I would look at a 3070 for sure but if did that, it would be with a 4K screen or it’s overkill.

  • -1

Yikes. 3 times less than this price for me to be interested. Which is an impossible ask, sure. But ….. I'm just not interested in this older generation any longer. Clearly many others feel the same.

    • I'd go for it at half-price

  • Waiting for when 2080ti's hit the shelves of Hot Dollar/Red Dollar, hung up next to the cheap TV antennas, network cables.and toilet roll holders.

  • +2

Around $800 then might consider it. 1.3k is a joke.

  • +1

I have no doubt there will end up being a stock shortage of these cards when they drop lower and there is a shortage of the new cards,

  • -6

Well… I think I may be the first to neg. Just in case no one reads the comments, now they will.

As an explanation for those not in the loop, the RTX 3080 comes out around this price in about 10 days. It is at least 40% faster (among other benefits). Also there's a 3070 coming close to half this price which should* outperform it.

Now this is still a great deal on paper but if you have the patience please wait.

    • wait for benchmarks
    • +5

      Is that available right now?

Are you guaranteed a 3080? Supply and demand are going to be crazy.

In saying that, I'd also wait, but right now, this is a deal.

    • Also there's a 3070 coming close to half this price which should* outperform it.

$499 for 3070 is USD not AUD.

Also are you a proud owner of one of those cards listed above?

      • +1

Apologies, close to 35% less for equivalent performance (though this does come out a little later.)

I know there will be those who say that prices will be above the standard MSRP but still you're better off waiting unless you desperately need a card now.

        • I agree with waiting, with current situation and hype however your chances of grabbing one at launch is very slim.

I will probably grab one later next year. I’m more excited about direct storage support which is only releasing later next year and hopefully the pci4 ssds would be at decent price by then to pair it up 🤞

    • +2

Well… I think I may be the first to neg. Just in case no one reads the comments, now they will.

Don't think that's a good use of neg vote. It can discourage OP and many people from posting deals, which hurts people looking for a deal in the long run.

I'd say its better to ask the OP to add more info about 3000 series than trying to gain attention by neg vote.

      • +1

I completely disagree. If there are no neg votes then there’s no indication of contrary opinions to the deal. Seems like the reason neg votes would be shown (as opposed to just reducing the score).

Personally I’m on the fence with this one but leaning towards it being a good deal at the moment

  • must suck for stockists too. $600 and I'll still have to think about it.

    • +14

They knew a new series was coming, i'd wager 9/10 times that usually means the previous gen loses value.

Leading up to the announcement people were paying stupid amounts for these cards - and even second hand versions. Retailers could have offered a small discount and probably cleared their inventory, instead they wanted to milk it for every cent and now they can pay the price.

      • +2

        Cant agree more

        • +3

          I dont think they care….

RTX3000 is the next golden goose until AMD release something,

          And thats a goose too.

          Hahaha retailers arent losing sh*t

  • +12

There's next to zero chance any of us are going to get our hands on a 3070 or 3080 any time soon. Insider sources are saying that yields at Samsung's fabs are extremely low, with relatively few cards available. Sources from AIB partners are already painting a grim picture.

I'm almost willing to bet that the 3080 will come in at around $1600 - $1700, with the 3070 coming in at around $1100 - $1200. This is just based on previous launch data.

I've collected some evidence about the 2080 Ti launch here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/9252533/redir

The averages in the US tell us that both the 2080 and 2080 Ti launched at around 30 - 40% higher than their MSRP. Not to forget that the 2000 series were nowhere near as hyped up as the 3000 series are this time around, with TSMC's 12nm FinFet node being far more mature than Samsung's node this time around.

Trust me, I want to buy a 3080 and I'm happy to drop money on a 3090 if need be, but I know my chances of getting one are close to zero. Long story short, stock will be scant for months, with eBay scalpers selling far above MSRP, when stock comes in, it'll be at 30 - 40% higher than MSRP. If you think you're getting a 3070 or 3080 within the next 6 months, I'm sad to say there's almost next to no chance.

I agree this is a bit high for a 2080 Ti, but at around $1,000, I'd jump on it.

    • How does $499 usd translate into A$1100-1200 :-/

      That seems rather insane inflation.

      • +4

Look at the evidence from the 2080 Ti launch and judge for yourself. $1200 USD launch price, went on sale for $1600+ USD on launch day in September 2018. It didn't even hit anywhere close to $1200 USD until literally over 6 months later. That's a 33% markup on a card that wasn't that popular.

Do you really believe that the 3070 is $499 USD? With the current pent up demand for the 3000 series, there's no chance. Don't believe me, just wait and see. Just don't be surprised when it's May 2021 and you're still hitting F5 waiting for stock to become available and prices to drop to MSRP.

I can already see what will happen. In around 2 months, people will start realising that there's no way anyone's getting a 3070 or 3080 any time soon, all the used 2080 Ti's will begin to dry up. Don't be one of those fools selling their 2080 Ti for $800 on Gumtree and waiting for the launch. You'll get caught with your pants down. I have no personal stake in any of this, I've bought every GPU generation since the 6800 Ultra. I know how this works.

        • -2

I don’t know what to tell except this

          scroll down to prices below…

          • +5

@kaleidoscope: Here's a deal. I'll pay you $1000 for a 3070 on Christmas day. If you can source one for the price you think you can, you could make a handsome profit, if not, you'll have to accept the loss and either get me the 3070 at market rates in exchange for $1000 or pay me the difference. I'm happy to put my money where my mouth is, are you? Or are you just spouting nonsense?
