99 a month? Really? What is it unlimited everything?

    • 150GB

      • lol

For the traveling businessman who needs his 4K porn.

  • Anyone else in Melbourne been having a lot of mobile data drop out issues in Melbourne during Covid19? Are any of the other Telcos fairing any better?

    • I wish i could provide feedback but in the 1 hour a day i spend off my home wifi ive had no issues

      • yes. actually downgraded plan by removing addons as hardly use mobile data. Telstra and co should intro lower plans as lockdown continues. although I’ve updated to 100/40 nbn to compensate being home

Had multiple issues the past few months but worse the last several weeks. Unable to call, texts not sending, internet dial-up pace.

      With Telstra.

      • I changed my phone I was so annoyed. Glad to know it's a Telstra issue and not a phone issue.

    • Yes plenty on 4g data Sims.

    • No issues with the telcos I've been using, all on the Optus network.

Just sounds like Telstra buggering something up yet again. That sucks.

    • +2

Was with Telstra and it was unusable in the afternoons.
Have switched to Vodafone and speeds are much faster during peak periods.
Probably less congestion on their network because no one is with Vodafone.
But fair warning, while they are cheaper, they were an absolute pain to deal with.

      • This. The same. Telstra speed is soooo slow, that I switch to my Vodafone Sim card to get faster speeds. Prob due to sheer number of people on Telstra. Unfortunately, Vodafone doesn't work out of town, so have to have two sim cards.

$1287 for a pixel 4a and an average plan over 12 months. What's the value in these deals when the plans are so expensive

    • Thanks for working this out :)
I got lucky and got the Pixel 2XL for free on the $59/mth ($49 when I asked later on Telstra chat) on a 2 year contract

That was almost 3 years ago…

Do 2 year contracts still exist? I really don't see the point in changing handsets yearly as the tech isn't really groundbreaking anymore year on year

      • This was a great deal

I was working at Telstra at the time and a customer walked in with a Pixel 2XL he had just bought from JB and wanted to be put in the $59 plan.

I told him to refund the phone and he said he wasn’t going to fall for Telstra’s tricks.

        Hmmm

      • I would get the pixel 4a for $599 and try for pre paid 365 days for $300 max over 24 months. Better deal than the telstra one and more data.

  • +13

For this price i'd expect a free phone

  • +15

Hard to recommend the $99 plan as I got $500 jb gift card around this time last year on the $65/12 months plan.

    • -1

I would agree but after Covid, we're unlikely to get back to the same prices.

  • +3

Sorry, it was a deal when the $500 credit was available on the $65 plan - this is just expensive.

  • Lol too much compared to last year September iphone deal

    • +1

This years iPhone deal was very good. $$$$ were made

  • Wow and here I'm paying $45 for 45gb and that came with a $200 JB GC that I got EOFY lol subpar deals atm

  • +1

I am paying $35 for 55g data with $200 JB voucher. These deals are getting more expensive.

  • +3

IIRC prices have gone up because Telstra is making people pay for 5G access upfront.

Whereas in the last financial year, you could choose to subscribe to it if you wanted 5G access.

    • +1

It’s criminal if that’s the case as they cover SFA. They don’t even cover the whole of the CBD in Perth.

      • Totally agree. They must have had hardly any 5G subscribers and panicked that no one was gonna pay for their 5G equipment investment.

Shame though, because I was hoping for that $55/month for 80GB data deal again.

        • I'm paying $45 month,for 80gb.

I was forced to pay an extra $5 a month, since last month, absolutely can't get out of it(was $40 month before) we don't have 5G, infact we don't even have a fast download.
I regularly switch to my Vodafone Sim to get faster data speed, unfortunately, outside of town centre, Vodafone doesn't work…neither does Optus.
So I'm forced to stay with Telstra

  • +3

Am I missing something? How is this a deal? No phone?

    • It might not be an amazing deal but that hardly makes it worth a neg… $500 voucher is still something even on a somewhat overpriced plan.

      • +1

Most $50 plans are on par, if not, better than the $99 one. One could get that and save $500 a year to shop anywhere.

  • Unless you need the extra data this is not a good deal.
If you don't need a phone and can live with less data, it's better to go prepaid.

If you need a phone then it is better to wait for a deal that includes the phone you want.
For example, this time last year I signed up to the Note 10+ on the $65 per month over 12 months. The up front cost for the phone was $999, which is a $800 discount off the phone. Much better than the $300 voucher offered here on the slightly inflated equivalent $69 per month plan.

This is in store deal for months

    • +1

I can't seem to see when you posted it?

  • Given the new iphones are coming soon, should I port out in preparation for a deal?

    • +2

Hmmmmm…. let me go and consult my crystal ball. I would you prefer I use my tarot cards?

    • +2

Last time I went with the $500 port in deal, I literally bought a $2 sim from coles, activated it and then walked into JB. Then on Telstra chat got them to give me the port in $10 credit, swap the number over to the new plan and cancel the old plan. No need to wait for port in/ port out then.

      • Do you mind sharing a bit more detail? Im in a situation where my current telstra phone is not on a contract and this would be ideal if seamless as youve mentioned it.

Did you port the coles number into the samr account where you had the non contracted phone? What did you have to ask the rep @ telstra to port numbers between service?

        • Sorry, I completely missed this reply.

I ported the number to the same account when the JB hifi staff asked if I already had a telstra account. When I go home, I went on the online Telstra chat and asked them for the $10 credit. Then I told them that I want to transfer the old number to the new plan. Then cancel the old plan.

The chat with the rep below.

Me: Now not sure if this is possible. I want to get rid of the old plan and move that number to this
          new plan

Me: So i guess it's cancelling the old $39 plan and moving the number (xxxx) from that

          the change.

      • Glad it worked out for you. Last time I tried a similar approach and took 3 months for Telstra to process.
Transferring a number to Telstra (Not an Issue)
Transferring or swapping numbers from a current Telstra plan to a another Telstra Plan (ie: the One JB Signed Me up for), could not find anyone who knew how to do this.
First 2 months, cycling through different chat engineers, last month found someone but had to complete PDF forms, print and take into a Telstra Office with Proof of ID.

I can't even find Telstra Chat anymore, so can only imagine the process will be even more difficult now.
        Found this Messaging service though;
        https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/sim-only-plans#lp:d…

I am thinking porting to a $30 Vodafone pre-paid (currently $12 on-line) prior to porting to Telstra.

I got the $500 voucher last year on a $6x something plan, so going to wait for another one. $99 is too much. I want to be prepared.
