Doordash shares credit card metadata usage with new users.

I was at a friends house who signed up for door dash. So new account, new e-mail address & new phone number.
At payment step, we decided that we will use my credit card and he can transfer me money. Shockingly, it came up that the credit card has been used before! That its not a new user account anymore!

While this appears to not be a big deal, this is still a breach of my privacy and arguably illegal share of usage in Australia. I did not agree to share any metadata usage of my credit card in such way. I get to choose who gets to know my credit card history.

Just thought to let you guys know!

  • with uber, if you try to use a card that's used on another active account on a new account with promo code, it gets rejected.

Yeah and then you can’t apply any other new user coupons.

      • Yeah thats what happened to my friend. Never used Doordash before and now suddenly he can't use any of the "New user" coupons.

found a way that works. use card direct and card on PayPal. delete. 30 days later you can reuse.

    Interesting, i didn't know that..
Do you know if in the terms & conditions with Uber if it asks for consent for the sharing of information in such a way?

I imagine this kind of data share would be annoying for people in relationships who secretly order takeaway behind their partners back :)

    • i trust Uber so i chose not to read the terms and conditions
get a takeaway card? it would still show up in the statements anyway.

  • Maybe they didn't want multiple accounts using the same cc? Could you actually view any of the digits?

  • No privacy has been breached. The outfit has not disclosed identifiable data to anyone.

This is to stop people using sign up bonuses multiple times.

You also don’t get to choose what happens to metadata with your credit card purchases. Try telling Coles that they cannot track your purchases between visits using your credit card details even when you don’t scan a fly buys card.

Interestingly this is one of the main arguments by Apple for Apple Pay. A single use token which the merchant cannot link together between multiple purchases, hence why companies were reluctant accept it when introduced (as well as increased fees).

Its a check for people creating new accounts to get the 'freebies' that new users get.

Sorry what did they share about you with your friend, other than the card details you have given have been used on a different account.

and arguably illegal share of usage in Australia

They shared nothing about you though. You provided a card, they said no thats been used before.

You gave your credit card to doordash via your other account, they haven't shared it with anyone but themselves. Your 'friend' is signing up with doordash :)

I get to choose who gets to know my credit card history.

Your friend didn't get any history.

we decided that we will use my credit card

No you tried to game the system by creating a new account to get freebies.

Had you been going to leave your credit card on your 'friends' account?

  • Just sign up to revolut and generate a new card number each time
