Damn thats a great price. I bought it a few months ago at $1169

Do you recommend it for YouTube or Facebook videos?

      • Yeah I use it on my channel. It's great for setting and forgetting, you just hit record and it takes care of autofocus and the videos are crisp and clear. I know people say "might as well just use an iphone" and in many ways its similarly as easy as using an iphone. But with an iphone you use up the internal storage quickly. Whereas with this you can replace the memory card. And although the sensor is only a little bigger than the iphone, you can get some minor bokeh, especially if you put things closer to the lens. Which you can't really get with iphones.

TL;DR, yes its great for online media

        • +6

The sensor isn't a little bit bigger than an iPhone, it can be up to 5 times bigger and coupled with optics that have much greater light transparency factors.

For those who are willing to dig deeper into video editing, you have access to s-log controls which will significantly boost your image quality.

My friend got one and the battery it's the biggest issue.

Few weeks ago he was testing it on cooking dishes for 2 hours shooting in 4k and we needed 3 batteries to finished it.

        • +1

Yeah true, battery is tiny. I mainly shoot shorter clips so I dont notice it much personally. But the good thing is you can shoot while its plugged in (charging) or plugged into an external power bank. So theoretically you can extend the battery life with a powerbank

        • Battery is ALWAYS a tradeoff in every point & shoot camera. if you want to record a lot of footage you need atleast 3 batteries…thats a given when you come into the point and shoot world.

also, your recording in 4k which will drain the battery faster compared to shooting in 1080.

Its not that much of an issue. just plan your shots efficiently and get the extra battery.

if its not good enough consider the compact camera category with interchangeable lenses. its a whole new world.

Great find. Picked myself up one. After reading reviews it says the biggest issue is battery life and the focal length if you're vlogging outside without a selfie stick. Luckily for me it'll be for youtube vids that I shoot around the house so can adjust accordingly.

    • its definitely better with a handheld tripod. its a given in a self-vlogging category.
however G7X Mark iii is in the same boat…

If you're more into photography then the LX10 is currently $456 on Amazon. Same 1-inch sensor but with a faster f/1.4 lens. Still does the 4K video although the autofocus isn't as assured as the ZV-1. So not as suited to vlogging but at over half a grand cheaper it's a steal.

  • Great camera. Just installed the smallrig cage as I’m not I’m not used to holding something this small. TWSS

  • Can someone explain what makes a good camera? this is only 20MP the latest cameras on phones are over 100MP

    • +3

Megapixels is just partly marketing. Is all about the sensor size. This Sony camera's sensor is way bigger than a camera phones. To keep it simple, bigger means is better in capturing information, low light performance etc.
This video breaks it down. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKk29GYJyVI

    • To put it in perspective, a 1080p screen displays roughly 2mp (1920 x 1080 = 2,073,600 pixels) while a 4K display is 8mp (8,294,400‬ pixels). 100mp is important if you mount highway sized billboards on your loungeroom wall, otherwise as la838 says, it's all marketing BS :-)

      • +3

Even for highway sized billboards ~40mp is more than enough.
What makes a picture good is lenses and sensor (DR, etc).

    • theres also some advance color science S-log feature that allows better color grading.
having a lens will give you natural bokeh effect rather than smartphones that digitally enhances these effects.
they have ND filters which gives smoother footage which mainstream smartphones dont.
overall the footage is just soo much crisp when using another other than a smartphone…

if you cant tell the difference, you havent seen enough footage.
and if you still cant tell the difference, stick to smartphone :D
