Did that aluminium Shimano 105 bike really sell for $3000?

    • +4

      and rim brakes!

    • You get a caad13 disc brake at similar price point. I mean 3000 seriously? :D

    • No way. You can almost get a full carbon with 105 rim brake for $3000. I have a full carbon rim brake Tiagra for $2500 before Covid.

      • This does seem expensive.

I got my full carbon frame, 105 set and rim brakes for $1600.

Disc brakes would have been nice but seemed to blow the price out.

Not even carbon forks on this one.

        • where did you get your full carbon from?

    • +8

No. I can't find any other stores selling in Australia, but there are a few (here, here, and here) from the UK, who all list it at £849. £849 comes to $1,550 at the current exchange rate.

This 'sale price' is the normal price.

You can't find any other stores selling this because it is the Decathlon homebrand bike.

The bike in your links seems to be a slightly different model with a Mavic wheelset.

Seems like us Aussies are being shortchanged again (by double the price for a lesser bike!)…

        • Mavic wheels? So better wheels?

          • @jasonc: Mavic has just gone bust, just like when American Classic went broke, there seems to be a few Mavic wheels on clearance around the traps at the moment, PBK had some on clearance earlier in the week.

      • Normal if you live in the UK

Hate when websites don’t provide options to check shipping cost upfront.
Seems u need to register to see shipping cost 👎

I almost thought Vin Diesel sponsored this bike

Hi… Any suggestions for a “better” road bike at this price point? Thx

  • Whoever interested in this bike, I will sell you my 2014 TCR SLR1 50% off $1499

hell i will even throw in a pair of pedals.

Damn that's mountain bike weight. Good luck racing that.

    Sketchy original price - downvoted.
-either Decathlon are doubling their price in Australia, or it's artificially inflated for the markdown.
£850 RRP here, which converts to $1550 AUD.
    Review seems ok though
    https://www.bikeradar.com/reviews/bikes/road-bikes/van-rysel…

It's tricky to find mid price bikes in stock at the moment - so if you don't want disc brakes, it might be ok.

  • Pretty hilarious given I bought almost the exact same spec a few years back for $600-700.

    … From Decathlon.

In fact I prefer mine because it has better tyre clearance. But no way would I spend $1500 and not be getting either Dura-ace or disc brakes.

They can pump out alu frames for <$300 nowadays. Particularly without links or drop out sliders.

  • Aluminum 105 are usually $1000-1200 at sales. Not a deal unless it's specialized 2021 lol. Ref Allez Elite is $2100 with 105.

I guess it's not relevant to compare with pre-Covid prices…

    • I still have the CF900 - man that was an insanely good deal. My understanding is Van Rysel is the equivalent of the upper specs of BTwin range so this deal is essentially 1 step down coupled with a 50% price hike.

      • Good for you mate, I'm still gutted I didn't go for that deal. I don't think we'll see anything nearly as good for a little while looking at bike prices today.

I read that Decathlon re-branded their whole cycling range and got rid off the B'Twin name. Van Rysel is now the road racing brand, Triban the commuter brand and Rockrider the (resurrected) mountain bike brand.

Even the AG2R junior team got renamed as Van Rysel AG2R.
