  • Not too shabby, but I am already a custome. After 1 year I requested to cancel, in response Austar offered to reduce my monthly bill by $30, from $86 to $53. Everything is negotiable

    • well the good thing about this deal is you can join for one month then call to cancel and negotiate a better deal.

      • +2

        No point in doing so.
When Foxtel first start service in Australia years ago, they had a 'life time connection' deal. All I had to do was to pay for the installation and I could disconnect and reconnect without having to pay for installation again. Also, if I moved to a new house, Foxtel would install the connection free of charge as this was 'life time connection'
I took up the offer, had the service for two years and then disconnected. When I wanted to reconnect later, Foxtel could not charge me installation as said in the contract but they wanted to charge me reconnection fee which was never mentioned in the contract. They would only waive the fee if I signed a one year contract with them.
The joke is the reconnection fee was nearly the same as the installation fee. Something they could do by clicking the 'connect' button on the computer screen cost the same as sending someone to lay cable from the street to my house?
So you can forget about negotiating for a better deal. They can always charge you reconnection fee.

  • Very interested in this!

Such a monopoly having Foxtel out here. No competition and can charge any prices they want. Wish there were more TV operators in the country.

Like all 5 major channels and everything on the internet?

      • +1

well i think he means something akin to the competitive market in the US

      IPTV is the future mate!

cables? …..LOL! who's gonna invest that sort of money when IPTV is so cheap comparing to cable?

    • Wish there were more TV operators in the country.

      There is optus.

And if there were more tv operators they would all be offering the same channels as there are only so many channels which operators will make available in Australia

      • +1

Well at the moment I pay $60, but pretty much everything is your basic FTA channels, and then Fox Sports's 3 channels.

And I probably watch just the EPL games and a few cricket games when they are around. So not worth it, but don't have an option really. And I don't like to stream EPL games especially when you don't have a good stream.

And I know some people who pay $130 to get the 'Platinum Package' and then more for the HD channels. MEH!

        Bring on the competition.

      • Optus just resupply foxtel

Does anyone have any more info on this? Like pricing, etc.
I'd call but I couldn't be bothered dealing with sales types this morning.

  • Any ideas whether this offer is for the "Standard + 1 Package" for $50 per month deal? If so, I might sign up.

  • Can anyone explain a bit about how this package works? I have no idea what it means :) Does this mean you can choose which channels you get as opposed to having to choose packages and things?

    • There is no contract or connection fee and you pay the monthly cost of the "iQHD Value Pack" which you like the look of

$50 for 6 channels of 24/7 Simpsons and everyone loves raymond reruns, not to mention a whole channel dedicated to weather! And shopping! And shitty overpriced fashion!

    Bargain?

  • Good on you Panderiz.
    … bargaining with Foxtel.
A few years back I got their free installation with no locks offer (with dual LNB)
    I paid $90.00 a month for a year then
I had, for $67.00 a month (I know many will not believe this)
2 iQHD boxes and Platinum HD package(Everything incl all HD channels)
at the end of my bargain period of six month they tried to take away one of the movie channels (asked me to keep Movie Network or Showtime movies and they had increased the agreed amount $67.00 back to $90 without giving me a warning so I got pissed and threw all away. They called me a few times to get me back on but my answer was NO Thanks.
With less to watch I am happier now.
    I think it was a good deal even @ $90.00 a month.
If you never ask you will never know what you can get.

  • Not even a deal like this will stop me disconnecting my service in 3 weeks, woo hoo. Good bye foxtel for ever. Welcome back FTA and 'the scene'

    • whats FTA?

      • Free To Air

      • free to air, normal everyday tv

        • -1

          Poverty TV .

  • $50/month
    min cost = $600 /per year

looks like no connection fees, else Foxtel is in trouble with ACCC

  • Install is free

But it seems you will need to pay a fee if you want to cancel your account

    Cancel fee applies.

    • WTF? whats the go with no contract then? thats very misleading!

    • I believe the cancel fee applies to the 2nd offer on the page:

"Interested in another great FOXTEL offer? Get FOXTEL + Sport, Movies or Docos for just $50* a month for 12 months"

Then the conditions at the bottom:

"*Min cost $600 on 12 month direct debit plan with Get Started + 1 channel tier on a standard STU. New subscribers and single standard metro install only. Offer ends 12 November 2011. Cancel fee applies. FOXTEL and some services not available to all homes. FOXTEL marks are used under licence by FOXTEL Management Pty Ltd."

The terms for the no contract offer were for:

      "FOXTEL Pay As You Go^"

      Conditions being:

"^New subscribers and standard metro installs only. Your first month’s payment must be paid upfront. Offer is only available on Value Packs and is not available in conjunction with any other offer. Offer ends 12 November 2011. FOXTEL and some services are not available to all homes. my biggest gripe with foxtel is all the crud on there that your forced to buy:
do they get those filler channels for free? why force them down our throats? is it to improved preceded value?

    4 channels, +movies
    sci fi
    comedy
    tv1
    fox8
but i don’t think anyone would pay that much 66 bux (50 standard +16 for the add on) for just four channels.) oh maybe Disney and music occasionally to… but we do have abc kids now as well.
i mean docco shows etc may be ok once in a while, but they also have those on other FTA channels…
    nuff said!

my biggest gripe with foxtel is all the crud on there that your forced to buy:

I believe that foxtel is forced to offer it to you in a particular way.

Take Kids and Mucic, there are a few channels in there owned by the same company (Viacom) such as MTV and Nickelodeon
It is best for Viacom to have their channels grouped together so as children grow up (In this example) they can advertise on Nickelodeon and then link this to MTV when the person becomes older. Then they can also use MTV advertising/content to work out what is popular with teens and as younger children like to imitate teens they can extend this advertising to Nickelodeon and advertise in a way which is appropriate for younger viewers.
This is good for the channel owner and also the companies who want to advertise on the channel or in the shows aired on the channel.
If you have a free hour this documentary explains the Viacom model http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/video/flv/generic.ht…

I know this package forcing happens in America so I guess it would happen here too as the channel owners are the same.

I was always interested to have foxtel but, finding it's contracts/package, are so tricky(hidden traps everwhere) …just wanna tell foxtel marketing ppl outthere if someone from there is reading, having so many replies to analyse your ostensiblely good offer is just a shame and failure of your public trust. Something good like this one should attact people outright but no, foxtel you failed miserablely

    • prices are here…

      http://www.foxtel.com.au/discover/packages/default.htm

nothing 'tricky' and no 'hidden traps'

    • I was always interested to have foxtel but, finding it's contracts/package, are so tricky
