I have a weather station that I bought second hand. It was interesting for a while, but the base station part hasn't been turned on for a couple of years now.

Rather than knowing what the weather is like right now, I think what would be really useful is something that just displays the local five-day or seven-day forecast from the Bureau of Meteorology on a permanently-on screen. I never did find such a device. I guess a phone or maybe a Nest Hub is kind of close.

If you are a little technical there is software to repurpose an old e-reader to do this.

I have had the WH2900 for about 6 months. The weather screen sits on my desk in front of me, the actual weather station is on the garage roof outside. Main things I look for is outside vs inside temp/humidity, rain, wind and whether rain is on the way. You can hook it up to a number of websites (everyone wants weather data) as well as look up other weather stations around you on those websites.

It's all a bit of fun, yes you can just go to bom.gov.au to get weather data but that won't tell you how much rain your particular backyard has had this afternoon.

For an extra $80 the 2550 is the same outdoor weather station but is has a better looking screen and a portable temp/humidity/pressure sensor so you could get data on another room in the house as well as inside where the screen is and outside where the actual weather station is.

The 2550 also lets you add on a whole bunch of stuff like ground moisture sensors, indoor water leak indicators, air quality indoor/outdoor and even a lightning sensor.

I voted for the 2900 because I have that but after reading about the 2550 for an extra $80 it has a heap more add ons you can buy and the screen looks better so

    tl;dr
    I'd get the 2550.

  • I have the 2900 which is great, but now I want to add some sensors and cannot, should have invested a little extra to start with. Damn!
