Kathmandu website shows price was $325 and now $250.

    $650 seems like a pricejack…

    Scam company

62% off. Kathmandu Stuff probably needs to be -85% to be a deal.

    The boots look decent though.

    • Agreed, but shoes are hard to find with 85% off

    lol $650 for 3-season non-mountaineering boots.

    Good ol' Kathmandu.

    Now for actual criticisms:

    CONS:
-Non-GTX, proprietary waterproofing is almost always worse than GTX/eVent/BD stuff.
-Carbon shanks can be very uncomfortable depending on thickness and length, really need to try before you buy.
-I hate outward facing quick-lacing systems that extend beyond 1 or 2 eyelets (3 here)
-Non-removable liner, any proper mountaineering boot will have removable linings for moisture management.

    PROS:
    -Vibram sole
-Fair continuous piece of leather for boot body
-Boot seems appear to be compatible with crampons
-Seems to actually have a gusseted tongue

I have a pair of Oboz WindRiver which are going on 10 years old. The best boots I have ever owned, GTX waterproofing and a nice rigid sole which means I can walk in them all day in comfort. But I always catch those outward facing eyelets with the shoelace of the opposite shoe if I forget to tuck them in.

    • Can you recommend any shoes . This is too technical ?

  • $250 for non-Goretex shoes?
Not much info on NGX apart that it's PU membrane.

    • Nothing wrong with NGX. Been around in rainwear and snow gear for decades. Ime waterproofing layers - inc goretex - make the feet sweat (ymmv) so unless you're in extreme conditions applying some water repellent/wax is a better option.

      • +1 for sweaty feet in any brand of 'breathable waterproof' stuff. Without removable liners I prefer a light non-waterproof shoe and if gets wet, I can get it dry quicker. Plus "waterproof" is only for so long anyway. I had goretex type stuff in some boots I did the Camino de Santiago walk in, and after 4 days straight of rain meant 4 days hiking in wet boots. Even after 36 hours hanging indoors in on dry days, they were still wet and I hiked the next day soggy. Got them dry on the line that afternoon in the sun.
