Anyone know of any good Mitre Saw deals?
Never used one of these (for metal). I'm assuming for assuming sheet steel or fencing as an alternative to an angle grinder which I've used extensively. Looing at the specs though it indicates much thicker cuts are possible. States up to 43mm.
Could you not use a larger circular saw with a (smaller) metal-specific cutting blade?
Genuinely curious as not found the need for this exact tool before.
+1. As a woodworker, I've never looked into metal saws, but keen on hearing from any experts who want to chime in?
This guy explains it better than I do: https://toolguyd.com/using-a-woodworking-circular-saw-to-cut…
I believe 43mm is the distance between the cutting tips and the base rather than material thickness.
Why not use a angle grinder?
Using angle grinder to cut metal creates sparks and the metal can get very hot. With one of these you don't get either. That's why it's called cold cutting.
Thanks just saw cordless metal cutting saw. Had a look and seems like a small circular saw with a metal blade. Would assume it would still spark a lot.
no, i use metal blade in my circular saw and no sparks, i think because ot the size of the chips. much faster than a grinder and no heat so colorbond etc doesn’t melt.
They are very good saws for metal may times better than angle grinder. I have not used the Dewalt but have Milwaukee in two size, this model of Dewalt and Milwaukee are good for tradies for cutting unistrut, steel conduits and sheets 4-5mm. But the Milwaukee 8" is a larger machine and its a beast cuts through anything effort sly but bit big for general use
I am guessing Dewalt is bringing in a bigger version so selling the smaller one out.
For $199 I would grab one if I had Dewalt gear
Note: metal circular saws are different to timber circular saws in terms of RPM etc.
