410

Was at Dan Murphy's yesterday and saw the JW Double Black was on the shelf for $48.90 normally $54.99.. and only $4 more than the standard black label.
Not exactly a bargain. Just letting the people who missed out on the "1000 only available" deal know.

But here sells it for $54.99 on sale plus postage

  • "normally $54.99.. "

where does it say on Dan's site that it is normally $54.99 ?

Come on jv, you're the lover of google cache. http://goo.gl/Ik0MA

      • looks like on the catalogue, this is now their normal price… no mention of any sale ???

        • when Dan murphy puts items on sale, all price is adjusted to the sale price and original price is not mentioned unless they want to make a special point.

ie. all items in the catalogue will be listed in store and online with only the catalogue price and not a "On Sale" price tag.

Convinced me, Right after work :)

  • Doesn't seem like much of a deal, especially when you can purchase a bottle of Glenlivet 12yr old for $1 more from the same site.

    • +3

I get that you're making the point that you can have a 12yo single malt as opposed to a non-age declared blended scotch at around the same pricepoint, however IMHO Glenlivet's taste/flavour profile is much more similar to Grants blended - which can be had for ~$27. JW Double Black with its emphasis on Islay flavours would be more comparable to Bowmore or Caol Ila in terms of single malt equivalents - and given they can't be had anywhere near the pricetag of the JW, that makes the double black better value.

Naw, it's not that bad… JW's own website recommends chilling their bottles in the freezer before serving (not specifically this blend). The same scotch snobs that would look down on even adding ice, let alone coke, to their scotch - probably won't drink anything younger than someone you can legally have consensual intercourse with.

      • Ice or a bit of water is one thing, half a glass of coke is just wastage if it's high end

      • +1

I'm scottish and why anyone would waste good whisky by chilling it is beyond me. No doubt JW's marketing department would "recommend" using it to clean toilets if it meant the savages would buy more.

  • Thanks OP. I bought some. Tomorrow I will be having an office party for one; http://goo.gl/ldMHk

    • lol. Hey do you work in my office ;)

Just bought 3. Opened one and… WOW very nice and extremely smooth. No scotch comes close at that price. 6 per customer is not enough.

I went through half a bottle last night.

  • $1 more from today. =(
