  • Great price! Would have bought if I didn't order at the earlier prices :(

    • You can always cancel it?

      • It shipped already, and from US (this one is from AU) so its going to take forever

        • Check with Amazon CSR. They might be able to inform the last mile carrier to intercept and return it or maybe they can offer you a voucher code or something.

          • @netsurfer: Opened a live chat with them and got them to give me credit for the price difference! They said they couldn't refund as the one I ordered was from Amazon US.

        • Last time when I saw a price drop (same item on Amazon), Amazon help told me it was too late to cancel the shipment (but it didn't show as shipped yet).
I was told to just wait until the item arrived and just go through a return request. In the end, I just re-sold the item.
(For 2 other returns on amazon - where it was a faulty item, I had to remind them to start processing the refund. Another annoying thing for returns is that there's no visibility on the process. And I never got a receipt when I used a parcel point to return that item. Amazon help has always been able to help resolve any issues.)

  • how does it compare to samsung card in terms of performance?

  • +1

    Good for Nintendo Switch?

    • +1

      Sure

  • What's the difference between extreme and extreme pro that is being offered for $117 at Officework? Thanks

    • +2

If you have to ask…you only need the non-pro version.

      • Actually I believe there is not much difference when I did some digging. Real life read/write speeds are similar, and I think this card is a newer cardthan the extreme pro at officeworks and has improved performance compared to previous extreme cards. Personally I went with this card while the pro was out of stock + more expensive.

The new/true Sandisk Extreme Pro is UHS-II. It takes advantage of the UHS-II interface, but so far it only increases mainly on the read (up to 275MB). You do need a UHS-II reader.

          https://www.centrecom.com.au/sandisk-extreme-pro-128gb-micro…

However, if you are just getting UHS-I sd card, then there is no real advantage of getting Sandisk Extreme Pro UHS-I version. Not all UHS-II cards are better though as there are UHS-II cards which take advantage of the interface to boost the read speed, but the write speed still below Sandisk Extreme UHS-I version. The card reader also matters, even for UHS-I card readers.

I am undecided between this and the earlier post of Samsung EVO Select 256GB Micro Sd Card with Adapter $45.69. Hope someone can nudge me towards a decision. Wanting to use for nintendo switch. Thank you very much in advance.

    • +2

For a switch i would go value for money ie. Samsung - This card is more geared towards needing faster write speeds (Eg. video recording as denoted by the V30 symbol on the card itself). I use a Samsung card for my switch and it works fine.

    • +3

Unless you need the card ASAP and/or need 400GB over 256GB, get the Samsung.

      • Samsung has better $/GB (17.5c vs 22.2c)
      • The Nintendo Switch cannot take advantage of the A2 IOPS rating of this SanDisk
      • SanDisk's ratings should be taken with a grain of salt - one test found their "Extreme" cards tested slower than the cheaper Samsung Evo+ (which is the same card as the Samsung Evo Select we're looking at here)

(Note that the SanDisk might fare better in a device that can handle the A2 standard… but neither the Nintendo Switch nor the Raspberry Pi used in the tests above support A2 anyway)

    • +2

Higher IOPS are only important if you're going to access a lot of small files all the time. For Switch, you don't need this. Cheaper Samsung is just fine.

  • Would this be good for a Samsung phone for just photos and videos or is this too much?

    • I'm putting mine in my Note 20 ultra. It is fine for 4K, but unsure about 8K (not that i'd use that much anyway).

      • If you take a video at 8k or 4k 60fps, the phone will show a message saying it will save to internal storage.

        • Oh, didn't know that, but good to know! (haven't received my card yet)

      • +1

get the fastest card you can afford. Alternatively, you can record to internal storage and then later move recordings to SD card.

  • Is this the fastest writting speed you can get on a microSD? To be used for shooting 4K 60fps, and future upgrade to 8k 60fps if possible, most likely coded in mp4 or other format used in Nikon or Canon. Thanks!

The speed quoted is maximum sequential write speed. The V30 rating means officially, its minimum sequential write is 30MB/s. Problem is V60 and V90 are quite new so, it's a matter of whether you want to be an early adopter and believe it is actually V60 or V90 capable or you want to wait for V60 and V90 cards to hit the market.

Another issue is that official standard indicates V60 and V90 are meant for UHS-II and UHS-III. That makes sense as it is unlikely an 8K camera doesn't support UHS-II or a faster flash storage interface. With so many current gen 4K mirrorless or DSLRs already supporting UHS-II, do you want to buy a UHS-I card for "future proofing" 8K video recording? Not to mention UHS-III in the pipeline. Pretty sure Sandisk has UHS-II offerings already.

  • Good deal. This would be good for word and excel files.

    • 400GB of them!

anyone used this in a gopro black 7?

    • used in gopro 8. so should not be a problem with 7 black

  • Just be aware some camera's won't be capable of taking advantage of higher write speeds. You'll need to check your camera specs.
For eg. a Sony A6000 is only capable of maximum write speed of 35mb/s

  • Is it bad to use this with an SD adaptor on my camera?

  • Man Prime delivers. Ordered Sat morning. Received Sunday. Free.
