    RGB… nvme enclosure?

    • +10

Can't get any faster than RGB with Gen 2.

  • normal price?

    • Cheapest on staticice is $99 plus postage for australian stock.

    • Check the Keepa link in the deal. $114.99 in June and $95.57 until recently on Amazon.

  • too rich for my tastes, for $12 more , could get one of those crucial p1's when they were on sale. would be worth more than this… imo

comparing a nvme enclosure with a nvme?

  • Would USB 3.2 bottleneck the drive?

    • +1

Depends on the speed of the drive, 10 Gbps is about 1200 MB/sec, some nvmes can do 3000 MB/sec or so in real term speeds internally.

      • Exactly what I was after! Thanks

    • +1

Yes. Real world numbers are around the 850MB/sec mark. Even lower end nvme drives would far exceed this.

  • Does this work with the Crucial P1 drive?

    • P1s are 2280 so seems to fit 2230/2242/2260/2280 form factors

      Just check first

What a waste of money. I want one now.

  • Cannot use as a boot drive if you get the idea which was unfortunate.

    • Why is that?
I used an NVME with usb enclosure for a while as my boot drive (I didn’t have an onboard M.2).

It worked fine as long as I didn’t bump it and lose the connection, which only happened three or four times in the several months I was using it.

      • +1

The way the chip is designed it doesn't want to be a boot option.
I used the same NVME SSD in a Orico cheap enclosure and it worked fine.
Also it does not support SATA M.2

Didn't even know I needed this, but just ordered. Thanks OP.

This will go nicely with my RGB toothbrush.

  • Do these drives actually get hot enough to need heatsinks?

The NVME SSD in my lappy doesn't seem to give a crap even running VMs.

  • Still available from Amazon US as the seller.
